I try and keep the house tidy - but that's hard with all the clutter around. Trouble is, the Crumbs (bar me) are hoarders. Nevertheless, downstairs is generally bearable - especially when we have guests, but upstairs is generally a disaster especially the teenage daughters bedrooms and bathroom. My life, their bathroom is a health hazard - even the day after I clean it. They are unaware of the loo brush (nuff said) even though it has been pointed out several times. The sink is multicoloured due to heavy cosmetics residue and the floor covered in damp towels.
Our kitchen is pretty homely - it's definitely the hub of the house as it has a farmhouse table and chairs in it where everyone sits down to natter. Needs to be decorated though - not a full blown kitchen replacement - just a lick of paint (whenever we get round to it!).

How very true!

Talk to Wyvern about that one - especially when they leave the card at the house next door, where no-one is living!

James May has ruined my life.
I got excited and started making things. It started with sewing a valance for our kitchen windows. I bought a valance off Ebay, cut it to fit two windows, stitched the entire thing by hand and six hours later, marveled that it looked fantastic. I still marvel because I can't quite believe I made that.
That led to making more things - I'm planning slip covers for the sofa and love seat, which are structurally sound but aesthetically abysmal - husbands, cats and the color beige don't go together.
I've planned this project, made diagrams, ordered all my materials, dragged out the sewing machine, and I'm pretty sure when I tackle it next week, it's going to be as much fun as the valances were.
Yes...it was fun, which is part of the problem. I'm enjoying myself too much!
I chose new canvas dropcloths as my material - they're durable, able to be dyed to a suitable shade (indigo - denim forgives), inexpensive, easy to work with and more importantly, able to be chucked in the laundry if somebody urps up a hairball or spills something on them.
After that, I'm making curtains complete with removable blackout liners. Our big, dumpy house is quite old and has windows that aren't standard sizes. Since I wind up modifying most curtains and hating something about them - style, color, fabric, ability for cats to rip them to shreds - why not just do it myself, in a manner and material that's easy to live with?
So I'm going to be busy from now until Doomsday - or March, whichever comes first - and James is to blame. I'd like to be angry with him, but I can't stop smiling. He's ruined my life in the best possible way.

They certainly were available elsewhere - I've had one for months! I nearly wore it for my vive at the end of my degree, but I didn't think it would go down too well. I also have a mug to match (as doesn MF). Can't think where I got it from now, it was online somewhere. Might have been here, come to think of it.

I am very impressed with my new snow shovel! normal way up = lots of capacity for loose snow clearing. Upside-down = scrape ice from the road!
And a nice diameter shaft (STOP IT, NOW!) so it is comfotable to hold in the cold weather!

Some years ago, I did a stopover at a Japanese airport hotel. On wandering blearily into the breakfast room we were confronted by a conveyor belt toaster and put our bread in. We then noticed that there was an awful of of abandoned toast around and looked up to see counters groaning under full English, Continental, American & Japanese breakfast buffets. Like so many before us, we abandoned our toast and gorged ourselves on all the other goodies instead. I suspect that was the biggest breakfast I have ever eaten!

If they weren't hundreds of pounds, I would have one of my own!
