Wow, that's quite a lineup! But I'm sure the gorgeous Purdey felt very at home with them It even beats the Mercedes 300SL Roadster that was in the garage when I took Gerald in for his MOT (if it had been a gullwing, it might have been a tie...). Not at all surprised your mind was blown!

As I walked past the car dealer near my local tube station earlier today, I couldn't help noticing, among its usual range of cars for sale, something a bit different. Naturally, I just had to take a closer look. It turned out to be an early 1970s Corvette Stingray 454. Bright yellow paintwork, chrome bumpers and window frames, and black leather upholstery. Very nice indeed! ;D

I saw my first one of these in the wild this evening... (the joke ad is by TG's script editor Richard Porter, and he's dead right. It's just a very, very bizarre looking thing in the metal!)

I saw a fleet of them when I picked up my new (to me) Cooper S at the main dealer's. I couldn't get over how big the thing is. If you forget that it's trying to be a Mini it doesn't look as bad as you might expect - it's when you go "Mini? - wut?" that there's a problem.

They shouldn't call it the 'Mini' anything... it's Mini-shaped, but far too bloated. Perhaps they should call it the 'Maxi...' Er... ...perhaps not...

Out on the back roads of Maine today, I spied a gorgeous 1970's-ish Rolls Royce convertible! It was in a muted shade of butterscotch and still had its England license plate on it.
I happened upon it as I was out for a shopping trip; it turned off before I had a really good look. Then I met it again on my way back from shopping!!
Back roads of Maine. What are the chances to see something like that?? ;D

I saw a classic Rolls-Royce today as well, on someone's driveway as I went past on the bus. It was a very nice car - except for the paintwork. The roof was white, and the main bodywork was a sort of violet-purple. Who on Earth would inflict a paint job like that on a Rolls-Royce?! It made it look like an overgrown Nissan Figaro!

Saw one of these cute little things tonight. Porsche 968 I think the headlights looked more... flip-up, more vertical and less flush with the body of the car, but I might be wrong. Darn it, Top Gear! Before you I would have been happy with a good used Honda Accord or possibly a Mini Cooper -- now I want a Porsche...

Nice. I do like old Porsches. It looks a bit like the 928, which I absolutely love. If I could have any Porsche I wanted, I'd definitely have a 928.

Another sunny day, another couple of sightings...
The first was rather fun. I was going out to lunch in the country and a Jag XKR (black) pulled out behind me. It's one of my most favourite cars ever. I did the Oooo thing and we all tootled on, behind a rather aggravating small metal box doing just below the speed limit.
There's a straight bit of road eventually so I did a quick overtake followed by XKR man. When I got to the restaurant I signalled to pull in - and so did he. I pulled into the carpark and started to put the hood up as he circled, pulled onto the road facing back the way he'd come, got out, posted a letter in a rather obvious way in a tiny telegraph-pole postbox and roared off. It's pretty clear these guys do like their attention!
Then on the way back I saw a lovely Ferrari, very pale silver, coming out of a filling station. I'm not sure but I think it was a 599. It was quite beautiful.
It never ceases to amaze me how many cars of this ilk there are in my neck of the woods. Someone's got the money, that's for sure!
Edit: the reg of the Jag was X13 XKR - definitely a poser's reg!

Had to pop out to Sainsbury's earlier, so I got in Gerald and went down to Loughton. As I was trundling along the High Road in on of my dream cars, I saw my other dream car - a yellow Lamborghini Gallardo - coming in the opposite direction, which made me smile. Just after that, I passed a black Ferrari 599 parked at the side of the road. This is the best thing about Sunday afternoon driving around here (and yes, it was the first time I've been out in Gerald since the little prang last week, so I was brave!)

Slightly different kind of sighting - how about 100 Minis? I did a charity convoy tonight, down Balckpool Illuminations, organised by the local dealer where I bought my Cooper S. (my second convoy in a couple of weeks; the previous one was with Triumph Sports Six club)
Actually it was quite fun although I was on my own as my mate cried off at the last minute due to illness. They were hoping for over 100 cars and I hope they got it, there were certainly a lot and I wouldn't be surprised if they achieved it. It was Halloween fancy dress if you wanted to and a fair few did and some cars were decorated too. I arrived at the same time as the car that won - a black Cooper S with cobwebs all over the outside, flashing pumpkins in all the windows and a 6-foot spider on the roof! Great fun!
It was pouring down when we set off and I ended up being part of a little offshoot that went the wrong way and ended up being towards the back, having started off about half way down. As the weather was bad there were few people about so we sailed through the Lights in half the usual time, so the lead car decided to take us back the other way. As we stacked up waiting I dropped the roof and got most of the way back before having to pull in to put the roof back up when the heavens opened! Part way through we passed a motorbike convoy going in the opposite direction, and things got a bit noisy at that point. I would have thought all Mini horns were the same, but they're subtly different.
Then we split up at the end and
some of us got a bit silly and had a little race up the dual carriageway and onto the M55.
Fun.

I do seem to see them......
Tonight, late, driving back from the Blackburn area something had been behind me for a while so when we got to lights with 2 lanes I pulled into the inner lane so he could go in the outside. (I had been whopping it a bit so thought it was fair.)
It was only a Bentley Continental GT in gunmetal silver.
Of course, he wrote me off when he pulled away but - wow, what a car!

Well, I had a nice codicil to my weekend of car joy - walking home from the tube station and feeling a bit 'meh' and mopey, I heard an old fashioned engine, and not a the kind of thing you get in a Morris Marina. I looked up and saw a lovely bright red (not a) Ferrari Dino 246. Had to smile

I've just looked out of my window, and there is a black Porsche 911 convertible, with beige leather upholstery, parked right outside my house. If only it were my car.

Parked next to me when I came out of Morrison's just now - a midnight blue XKR with cream leather upholstery.
I swear that model is the most beautiful car in the world and if I won the lottery I would definitely have one (as part of my fleet, you understand!)
Too dark to get a pic, but it was just sitting there, glistening very slightly in the slight frost. Lovely.

A bit of a different one on the way home from work - a Smart Fortwo decked out in bright orange racing livery. A bit of Googling shows it's one of these - part of the new forthcoming Smart race series that starts next year. I know I mocked when I saw both AMG and Brabus Smarts down in Plymouth, but it looks like people are seriously getting into tuning and modifying them for racing. Could be... interesting...

didnt they put a twin engined Brabus Smart around the Top Gear track? I'm scratching my head (and trying to find a link on YouTube), but I'm not sure. I know they definitely featured the Brabus bi-turbo Smart Roadster (bi-turbo V6 in that... sounds frankly terrifying). I know they did the Brabus Fortwo in the magazine and on the website though.

it was a Roadster, and the 'standard' car had been tested a little while earlier, and found to be lacking in power! So - a while later, they produced a quick one for him to play with!
Or maybe this goes in the 'Dreams' thread!

Saw a car that's new to me yesterday, while in Oxford. A Renault Wind roadster - must admit, the name of it did perplex me for a moment, as I saw it at an odd angle and thought it was called a 'Rind' and thought, that's a weird name for a car ;D
