Is Durmik from Tumblr on here under a different name? If so, thanks so much for this pic of a GT6 from the Fast & Rare site. They had the wrong name (called it a Spitfire rather than a GT6) but it's the best example I've ever seen.

Aww, Purdey looks lovely, Dit! How fortunate you (both) were to be out during a brief bout of sunshine -- your car just glistens. It's obvious you take excellent care of her

So I took Purdey in to the garage for bits of work this afternoon - and three minutes from home the windscreen wiper (driver's side, of course) just dropped off. In the pouring rain. Followed by an undignified scramble to rescue it. Another job to pay for. There are small advantages to using a little specialist garage; they always give me a lift home when I've dropped Purdey off, and it's usually in something tasty. Whichever of the blokes drives there's always something interesting to listen to. Tonight we were stuck in traffic, so the guy was telling me about his experiences driving the Nurburgring (apparently it really is as difficult to drive as people say, because it's impossible to learn all the turns and corners, it's a pain when 'kids in Clios' get in the way, and although it's very sad when a biker comes off and dies, 'it's annoying because they close the track for hours' [I'm only quoting]. And one thing I didn't know is that you can book a 'taxi' to take you round - experienced drivers who hurtle around to give you a real flavour of what the course can do) Oh, and the car I was brought home in? Bentley Continental GT.

Gosh, but fuel's pricey where you are, Dit! It varies wildly down my way, but I can still get it for 129.9 - this week, anyway.
When I had my Alfa, I took it to the village garage near where I work to get it MOT'd and the old boy who runs it asked me if I'd like the courtesy car for the day. Now, this village is pretty posh, just over the Suffolk border amongst some really pricey real estate, so I figured they'd provide a smart courtesy car for all the landed types. I followed him round the back and, sure enough, he unlocked the door to a smart looking, newish Audi A4. Sadly, he was only doing this to move it out of the way to reveal...ANOTHER smart looking, newish Audi A4. Another set of keys was produced and he backed this one out of its space and, just as I was trotting across the yard to claim it for the day, he got out and locked it up.
Then he went back for the actual courtesy car, a maroon, S-reg Ford Fiesta with lopsided suspension, no PAS and manual wind-down windows. There was also a cat in it.
Who needs a Bentley?

I don't know how much petrol they actually sell there at that price! The local supermarkets and big firms round here are selling at much the same price as you quote from your area, and one day last week Shell went down as low as 127.9 (but not for long). Having said that, they are cheeky - Shell's lowest price is in a local small town, 5 miles away on an outgoing road it's more, and the last petrol station before the motorway is more still. There can be 5-6p per litre difference from the same firm. That makes me really annoyed.
This garage really is in a village, and they still come out and serve you - almost unknown - so those two things mean that some people are prepared to pay.

And what was your opinion of the Bentley, Dit? Passenger road test report please!
Bad luck about the Fiesta Amie8...major disappointment....except for the cat...obviously.

Regarding the 'Ring taxis - that's why Sabine knows the Nurburgring so well. I'd love to have her as my driver, though I'm not sure whether she still does it

Amie8, I want your road test of the cat!
The Bentley was very smooth and clearly very powerful (6 litre engine) but unfortunately traffic conditions made it difficult for the guy driving it to really show it off. He put his foot down once only, and at that point I thought I was going to end up in the back seat!
It was extremely comfortable, all beige leather with masses of knobs and switches, though I was a bit disappointed by the wood on the dashboard - at least I assume it was wood, but it was polished/varnished to such as extent that it might as well have been plastic, well, bakelite sort of plastic.
One thing that surprised me was that it appeared to be an automatic, yet I noticed it had flappy paddles, so I assume it had a tiptronic transmission. I asked the guy about it but it developed into a conversation about flappy paddle gearboxes in general, rather than the Bentley in particular.
It was a beautifully comfortable car, a little like being driven along in a sofa!

Well, the cat was a black and white male, medium to large in size and appeared to answer to the name of "Oi!"
Nought-to-sixty in a pretty impressive 0.2 secs, although he required the assistance of the garage owners hand under his posterior to achieve that. Engine noise under acceleration a little loud and more of a "yeeowwwrrr!" noise than the throaty rumble I would prefer. I would estimate his usual performance, without artificial aids, to be roughly nought-to-one by about lunchtime. Well padded upholstery, though.
Oh, and the car was rubbish.

dit, were you and Purdey in Tescos Carnforth last week? I was just leaving and a lady in a red GT6 was just arriving. My first thought was "Was that Purdey?"

No, 'twasn't me! Though if there is another lady GT6 driver in the North of England, I'd love to meet her!
I've found that the classic car world is quite small, and people often know of others even when they've not met them or their cars. Having said that, the show I went to a couple of months ago had three GT6s, all on a 'G' plate - the other two were both from Southport (not a huge place), had had their cars for years, but had never bumped into each other nor been aware of the other's existence!

Oh well, I'll keep an eye out for the "other" Purdey and if I get a chance, nobble her for details

Gosh! Bugatti Veyrons are just two a penny nowadays, aren't they. Still think it's a stunning car, but so often let down by its paint job. Whoever came up with that two-tone scheme should've been fired, and all those people demanding custom finishes - chrome and such like - just to reinforce how rich they are, should also be fired. From a cannon.
If I ruled the world, it would be illegal to produce the Veyron or the Audi R8 in any other colour but black.
It would also be illegal to adorn any car worth over £100,000 with stripes.
I could warm to this...

My SO and I were having a nice dinner on the Avenue de Versailles in Paris this evening, and I saw a beautiful Porsche Boxter and a perfectly gorgeous navy blue Ferrari Barchetta Pininfarina go streaking by! Made my entire evening, although the dinner was super, too.

To digress somewhat, Sergio Pininfarina, who designed so many gorgeous cars for Ferrari, Alfa, and Maserati, died last week. RIP, talented man who gave us so much eye candy.

Wow, not to mention the red 911 on the left. And did the bride's car break down to or from the wedding??!! I saw a spanking red 458 two days ago. First I've seen "in the wild".
