Wish I'd had my camera handy on the way home tonight because I saw an absolute beauty. I'm used to Aston Martins and the occasional Lamborghini or Ferrari (in fact, the first 458 I ever saw anywhere was on my local high street), but what really turns my head is an immaculate bright red Mk1 Ford Cortina - no doubt busy celebrating the Cortina's 50th anniversary, all done up in rally trim and on the back of a truck going to/from an event somewhere ;D I got the impression you were living in S. Essex, which I don't really associate with Astons and Ferraris. Have you moved, or am I just out of touch, up here in my ivory N. Essex tower? My favourite Capri story - I used to pass a Mark III on my way to work, me heading out of town, Capri heading in. It was a bit modified, with a rear spoiler and an air scoop, and sprayed dark red with a matt black roof and bonnet (hood, Americans). The car was very noticeable, so I did what we all do, and peered inside it to get a look at the driver, expecting to see the usual superannuated boy racer with a comb-over. It was a little silver-haired old lady of about seventy-five. I shall be that little old lady in an unlikely car one day. I've told that story before, might even have been on this board in which case, apologies for the repetition. Toystoriesfan. One car I see a lot of in my part of the world is the Lotus. They are very popular round here, which means they're quite affordable. I see Astons and Ferraris out where I work, but that place just oozes money. They have Astons and Ferraris as second cars round there.

I saw a whole bunch of Astons today, at a dealer's. Unfortunately, the sales manager had decided that he was sick of black interiors and had ordered these mostly in brown, regardless of the exterior color. I started snickering as all I could think about was James and his penchant for brown interiors. Personally, I didn't like them at all.
They also had some vintage Mercedes, and a Miura, which was white with a tan interior. I must be getting too finicky because I didn't like that one either.

It was a little silver-haired old lady of about seventy-five. I shall be that little old lady in an unlikely car one day. That reminds me of something that once happened to me. A few years ago I had in rapid succesion two imported Mitsubishi FTOs, the first silver and the second white. That second one had been set up with rock hard suspension (some of which had to be removed to make it driveable) and had RallyArt decals (yes, it was a bit flash!) For various reasons I had to give it up and went to the local Mini dealer as I'd decided to go for a Mini - I'm on my third now. Much, much later the guy who sold me that first Mini, who was one of the good guys and not like a car salesman at all, said that he had never been as surprised by anything in his life as the way he felt when he saw me get out of the driver's seat, a portly lady not in the first flush of youth. He couldn't get over the fact that I wasn't a boy racer. In other news, I was in front of a very new looking white Overfinch in traffic yesterday - what a lovely looking vehicle and the front lighting array is gorgeous.

You ain't seen nothin' till you've seen the parade that is the South OC. It's staggering to see the disposable income being disposed of in the most ostentatious, nouveau riche ways possible (not envious one bit). Although, I've taken to gauging the economic confidence by the cars I see at the grocery store. Before the crash, I would sit at a light with two brand new Bentleys on either side of me and calculate that the combined cost of the cars at this one light, in this one row, was more than my house is worth. Then the crash happened. Poof, the Bentleys, Rolls, and giant SUVs disappeared. In came the Prius and the diesel Mercedes. Last year, the Porches were back and this year began with AMG modified cars (SLKs). We're now back to the Ferraris and the occasional Bentleys. So, smile everyone. The west coast of America thinks they are back in business. ;D

Just wanted to say thank you to the bloke in the black Ferrari that I saw on the M6 Toll Road this morning. He was a couple of cars in front of me at the toll booths. When he had paid, he gunned it away from the Pay Plaza and the sound of that Fezzer as he took off had to be the best sound....................in the world ;D ;D Made my day

Went to the final local car show of the season today in St Annes. It was a stunningly warm and beautiful day with wall-to-wall sunshine. A rather attractve man in a yellow Ferrari was there - no, not a 458! It was a 355 and no, the driver wasn't actually what it said on the plate Interceptor! Purdey in her element And we never found out the answer to this, though it circled the venue several times. We were all rather hopeful that the answer would be yes!

Today I parked my Ford Territory in a shopping centre carpark right next to a steel grey Aston Martin Vanquish. I admired it (the Aston!) and went in to do my shopping. Came out to find the lady owner loading her groceries into the boot. I thanked her for "bringing the Aston out to play", so we could all appreciate it. She laughed and we had a little chat. She said she and her husband shared it, and that they both found it a total joy. I said I so would if I could, and she said "you should!". (If only!). Then she said her other car was a Territory! What a nice lady, and lovely to see someone actually using their supercar for mundane, everyday tasks!

The other day, I saw a woman in a mall parking lot getting into some kind of Mercedes (SLS AMG I think?) with gullwing doors. I've never seen gullwing doors in real life. Granted, she parked far away, but I'd be afraid that two people would park next to me and I wouldn't be able to get in!

I'm far too short to have a car with gullwing doors. I'd never be able to reach them. I also think they're ridiculously ostentatious, a bit like having a number plate which says 5TUD, or something.
As for Astons, they are truly the only really posh car that can slide discreetly into a supermarket car park. Ferraris and Lambos look a bit tragic. However, we have an upmarket grocery shop near me called The Food Company, where one of the staff drives to work in a black Maserati Gran Turismo and that looks fine parked outside, amongst all the customers' Bentleys and Mercs.
Ahem...I sometimes go there for spicy pinto bean dip. It's worth the humiliation, honest.

I can't help but wonder, if you can afford a Maserati, why would you be working in a deli??!! Perhaps it's a hobby!

Could it belong to the owner of the deli? If it's the sort of place that I went to once, in Cheshire, where the car park is indeed full of Lambos, Ferraris and Astons (I hid my Mini at the end of the car park!) then he/she can probably afford a Maserati!

As it's always parked in the same spot, I suspect it belongs to the owner. The business is a goldmine (well, at £3.50 for a jar of spicy tomato chutney, it would be).

Sounds like a similar place to the one I found - fell across it from a brown roadsign and couldn't resist a quick look - seeded loaves at £3 and dressed lobster in the chiller cabinet, that sort of thing!

I saw a matte black Aventador at the New England Auto Show last winter. It was truly hideous. And it had a "sold" sign on it.

Surprising sighting yesterday evening of an Aston Martin being driven in an ungentlemanly fashion. Cut me up approaching a roundabout then again on it.
I can only assume the owner had sent one of the junior grooms out in it to get it washed and waxed.
Harrumph!

There are at least two Astons near me, a Vantage and a Rapide, that are usually driven in an ungentlemanly fashion. More a ladylike fashion, really

I actually thinks it's rather sad when cars are left behind like that, but still it's pretty cool what time can do...

I wonder if the French consider leaving cars to rot a kind of performance art? It pains me a little to see a DS in such a state of neglect. I wanted to use this photo as my avatar, but it just looked like a blob once it was shrunk down Anyway, the remains of an Ami 8

There are literally millions of abandoned cars cluttering up the landscape in the US. It's a huge problem, not only aesthetically, but draining fluids and decomposing materials contaminate drinking water, and the loss of recyclable materials is regrettable as well.
