People are either mean or stupid. Maybe both.

*huge hugs to Maureen* When people started the inevitable "children" question after I'd been married for a few years, I took sadistic pleasure in pointing out that I can't have them. I know it's evil of me, but it didn't half shut the buggers up ;D LOL!! Oh, how I'd have loved to have seen their faces...! ;D

The worst is when you've just had a baby and people ask when your having another. No, I would disagree here The worst is when people are busy asking you when you're going to try again when you've just had a miscarriage. Believe me on that one. I can't believe anyone would be so cruel.

I've been living with other half for 13 years now, it really bugs me when people keep asking "No wedding bells then?", neither of us want to get married, we have a house, the kids we're happy. The worse culprit? My own mother!

Had to laugh when he said he's no oil painting. Quite a few ladies here who would beg to differ.

Had to laugh when he said he's no oil painting. Quite a few ladies here who would beg to differ. Do you think that is why he is so attractive? Because he is totally unaware of it himself. When I see a really good looking bloke, but he acts like he knows he is really good looking, it brings on the urgh factor for me

I know what you mean about the ones who know they're really good looking. I have no wish to hang out with someone who thinks he's prettier than I am.

I feel a lot of comments are going to be 'James you are handsome! What are you talking about?!?'
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Quite frankly at any age he looked/s pretty fab to me ;D

Maybe he's just trying to head off any criticism at the pass, so to speak, by insulting himself before anyone else can say, "Sir, you are no Kylie Minogue yourself."
The column is hilarious BTW, another winner for Mr. May.
Can you believe he's bought a Datsun! Wonder why he'd go for an old beater like that. Perhaps he's feeling nostalgic for the 70's.

The 120Y makes a bit of sense to me - it was a good car for its time. It's also the one they pit the British cars against in the BL challenge. He does seem to like "iconic" motoring, and while the 120Y isn't iconic in the same way as, say, the original Mini, or the Porsche 911, or even (heaven help us) the VW Beetle, it is significant in that it changed the way the industry here thought about what a car should do (for about five minutes... then they had a tea break, then they went on strike, which is why we have no proper domestic car industry as such any more). And I actually think it's quite good looking, given the age. However, whether it sticks around is another story, and I can't help but wonder if alcohol-fuelled eBaying might not be to blame (as in the case of that old Mini). The reason they don't make old cars any more is, after all, because the new ones are better, and after a few weeks of driving the old Datsun, he'll probably realise that compared with, say, the Panda, it is a miserable drive (especially on winter mornings, when despite its Japanese origins, it will probably resolutely refuse to start). If all that was required of a car was to have some wheels and some seats and be able to get you around, we'd still be driving Ford Model Ts, and nobody would have bothered to invent the Lamborghini Gallardo At least I have some self control when it comes to eBay. I never did buy the lime green metallic Austin Allegro I developed an obsession with

I had to disagree on the Ambassador i HATE that car but my hatred is more because of the car then it looks. I wonder how many people comment on his looks.

Er... am I the only person who is unable to see anywhere to leave comments to this week's column? I am using Safari on a Mac, admittedly...
*wonders if it's my computer, or the fact that the column is a day early, or whether it is too early to say 'I told you so' to certain recent commenters*

I shall be very cross if the obsessive, rude and pathetic actions of the few have removed the privilege of commenting from the many.
However, given the content of this week's column, perhaps it's for the best, to avoid the inevitable 'Oh, but James, you're SO lovely' vomit-fest...

Comments are enabled. I've just added mine (and no, it did not contain any reference to James's attractiveness ). I'm using Firefox. I do fear that the comments this week will be rather nauseating! PS: I don't think the Austin-Healey Mk I Sprite is ugly. I think it's weird looking, but it's cute. In fact, it's so cute, it's nauseating too ;D
