This quote from James, “It has been smashing visiting Worcester, which is full of nice people.” I didn't know English people still said smashing. Tony Blair did when he was on The Simpsons, but he was being droll, and the show is written by Americans anyway. I love that word - it's v. sexy, but only when Brits say it. Makes me think of Anthony Newley for some reason. It's only really the likes of James who still say smashing now!

Oh, it's the old Northerners being behind the times thing is it?

Thanks for the credits, but Mayniac posted it on this board first in the Oz and James's Big British spotting thread.

It's only really the likes of James who still say smashing now! You mean posh people? You know who else says smashing: that glamazon Kim from "How Clean Is Your House?" I love those ladies, they're adorable.

I never really think of James is "posh". He went to an ordinary comprehensive and has often talked about his working class roots. He's just got that air about him as he's intelligent and well educated - something money and private school can't buy.

I say 'smashing'. And 'splendid'. And 'preposterous'. And I'm definitely not posh...

Posh wasn't what I meant. More a little old fashioned & well spoken. That sounds awful, but I can't think of another way of putting it!
