Another fruit tea fact - fruit 'tea' isn't usually tea at all, but an infusion of various herbs/fruits. They usually smell gorgeous and taste of naff all.

*agrees with above statement* But what is with 'fruit tea'? I tried some once - smelled beautiful, tasted like dishwater Fruit tea fact coming up - Raspberry leaf tea helps with period pains/giving birth. Tastes vile but grudgingly it does work. Gosh where has that been almost all of my life!

Loved the series, can't wait to check out the extra stuff on the dvd.
By the way, does anybody know the title of the track when they are meeting up with that guy from Westerham Brewery? It's just after Oz glazed the pie in the last episode ;D

Some more music from the series. The song is called "Groovin' with Mr Bloe". It's also used in this Geese ad.

The people of Burton - well somebody over there who wants to get elected - continue to lack a sense of humour. Luckily, the BBC finally showed some balls and told them to f*ck off. (Well, not literally, but in essence that's what they did.) Mrs Smeeth has now launched a postcard petition and website to highlight the issue and calls on the BBC to come back to Burton and make a new programme celebrating the town's heritage.
She said: "The BBC's coverage was callous at best and demeaning and offensive at worst. I was personally appalled by the programme, specifically its dismissive attitude towards one of our master brewers, Steve Wellington, who works at the White Shield Brewery www.burtonmail.co.uk/burtonmail-news/DisplayArticle.asp?ID=398280__________________

I've just emailed Ms Smeeth.
"Dear Ms Smeeth,
I've been following the story regarding the reaction of the people of Burton to the BBC series 'Oz and James Drink to Britain' with some interest. I'm particularly curious to know whether you watched the whole series or just the one with content local to you because actually, 15 minutes coverage was quite generous given the style of the programme. I say this as someone who did watch the whole series and felt that it didn't cover many things in sufficient depth, but did notice that Somerset (cider/perry/apple brandy), Devon (gin) and Cornwall (no significant reference to alcohol other than drinking it, but plenty of references to pasties and Morris dancing) were all covered in a single show. Given the editorial style, and the show's stated aim, which I believe was to 'find the drink that speaks for modern Britain' (rather than the drink that has most historical or cultural significance), Burton actually got very generous, if lighthearted, coverage. In depth coverage of Burton's 'proud brewing heritage' was not going to happen, and editorially, I don't think the BBC could justify spending more than half a programme on one place.
On the issue of the very old beer, as a beer drinker and member of CAMRA, I have to say it doesn't matter how significant it is, a beer of that age is likely to be terrible to drink. Beer is designed to be brewed and consumed in a short space of time. Before you raise that particular issue, I suggest you ask the people concerned if you might also try some, and then describe it in detail, with pictures to capture the expression on your face at the time.
However, you need to bear in mind that during the series the two presenters brewed their own beer and it was in Burton that Oz Clarke chose to make his, extolling the benefit of Burton water as the best in the country for the job. Furthermore, this was judged, in a subsequent show, to be the better of the beers the men produced.
I'm sure Burton's brewing heritage is important to the people of Burton, and I'm aware that you're currently in danger of losing some of that heritage with the influx of companies brewing under license and the closure of the Brewery Museum, but as a prospective parliamentary candidate, surely there are more important issues for you to focus on than a couple of middle aged blokes mucking about in a caravan. Your calls for a postcard campaign are a bit disproportionate, when if you really want to do something for Burton's history, you could be addressing the loss of traditional brewing in favour of foreign brands."
I hope that's not too arsey. People are allowed to have opinions, but it's a bit annoying that a paliamentarian in waiting is repeatedly wasting time in arguing with the head of Light Entertainment!

Yes, I did. I wouldn't come up with that much vaguely pompous waffle without a reason!!!
Think Linden should send hers though.
I'm hoping she writes back and whines that they spent a whole show in Ireland, just so I can point out that yes, they covered an ENTIRE COUNTRY in one episode, so on reflection Burton did quite well!
Though then she'll probably point out that the Irish Republic isn't part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland...
