I AM EMPLOYED! Part-time, seasonal, temporary, minimum-wage, but DAMN IT I AM EMPLOYED! SOME MONEY. Oh. 25% employee discount. Employed at Michael's. For those who don't know, major craft/art supply store chain in the states. My paycheck may not make it out of the store. I may weep. With joy this time. Hurrah!!!! Good times are back ;D

Thanks everyone. I've still gotta keep looking, this one's only temporary and the pay is really low, but it's better than nothing and hopefully we stop struggling for a little while now.

I had my hospital check up today and all is well, so that's me done for another six months , I hope. I also did another installment of the genetics of endrometrial cancer project I started last time. The aim of this is to try to develop an test, similar to a smear or mammogram, that detects cancer of the womb.I hope they succeed.

Great news eshalda I've done my last day at work today after 37 years and 8 months Taken an early release package and I feel really weird Glad to have more time at home but sad to say goodbye to some of the nicest people I've ever had the privilege of working for/with. Will be looking for a part time job in the New Year. Not fussed what I do as long as it pays

Hi Inky, don't be scared! I also managed to get early release, though I wish I could say I left very nice people, as no-one in education seems to have time to get friendly anymore.
I, too, said I would be looking for a part-time job, though so far (15 months) I haven't felt the need. You just rearrange your life to fit your new circumstances! Hope you enjoy your 'time off' before you start thinking about new employment. It will work out, but you need a break first to clear your mind of the routine of what's gone before.

Ditto to everything Dit said. I took early retirement from teaching (well I had done 30++ years.) I too intended looking for something part time, but as you can see from my above Happy Events message, things didn't quite work out the way I planned. Unlike you Dit, the people I worked with were extremely friendly, and still are. I still go into my old school at least once a week.

Don't get me wrong, there were some very good people there, but not enough time to spend with them! I also had a young colleague who made it clear she wanted my job, or at least part of it (although frankly my job would have been made easier if she'd been more co-operative, though that's all water under the bridge now!)
I was 'management' as well as my teaching role for a good few years, and although my management style was very positive and light I ended up being left out of 'cliques' as some people would rather talk about you than to you! When an opportunity arose I just felt it was the right time to go!

I was management too for a good few years, but resigned some of the responsibilities after my son was born as I didn't want to have the pressures of additional work and a new baby. I know exactly what you mean about cliques though. It isn't nice to have people talking about you behind your back, it's much better out in the open.

I always felt that, eshalda, and was told I was the most reasonable head of faculty in the place. Guess some people just want an argument, regardless of the issue.
I do miss the kids and doing productions, but I work now with an adult group so at least I still get that side of it.

My OH and I celebrated the first anniversary of our relationship today. We went back to the pub where we had our first date, and he bought me some lovely pink and white roses and a romantic anniversary card. I was amused to see that he'd signed it from: "The luckiest man......in the world!" ;D Hopefully there will be many more anniversaries to celebrate.
