Well i said i would report back on the day and so i shall.
I was running late meeting my friend, i blame the buses, they are terrible!
Getting there at 11:20am i found my friend had gone off to buy something having gotten sick of waiting for me.
So i figured why wait at the bus stop, why not just walk over to the bookstore to see how many people were in the queue.
As i rounded the corner and the bookstore came into view i spotted a fair few people who had stopped to look, figuring they were just curious about the mounting queue i didn't think much of it.
I soon saw a couple of security-like men standing in the corner, alongside of a scruffy haired man wearing a very similar jacket to one James owns.
'No it cant be him' i thought shaking off the idea, James wouldn't be just standing out the front of the book store. Would he?
But my question was soon answered when the man in question turned around, and yes girls, it was James, on his phone!
One woman walked passed, giggling "how embarrassing!" Referring to the fact that James was stood there while many people had stopped to stare at him and many had whipped out their mobile phones snapping up a few quick pictures of him on the phone. I did
try to do the same but later found out it never saved... oh bugger!
Standing so close to him i was beginning to freak out a little. People were just walking right by him as he was near the doors. Some barely even giving him a second glance! (The fools.)
Unfortunately my friend came along just in time... to see him leave. So i scurried after him as he entered the store, pulling her with me and pointed at the back of his head saying loudly "it's him! look! It's him... well the back of his head... but it's him!"
After finding the book stacked at the tills i purchased one and was asked who the book was being dedicated too, of course that would be myself, so my name was put on a yellow post-it and put on the page that was to be signed.
Heading back outside we began queuing, after about 30 minutes in the freezing cold trying to amuse ourselves Kaylee appeared. In a very excited state i might add as well. I managed to convince her to stand by me and my friend as her plans to give James a hug and kiss just had to be seen to be beleived. (Of course at the time i thought she wouldnt be daring enough to go through with that idea.)
We stood and chatted for a while... and then at 12:30 the queue started to move, not being too far back it didn't take us long to get inside to the warmth. Just being able to see the top of his head over the crowd i squealed, "it's James! look at him! i can see his hair!"
My friend, of course, thought i was a tad nuts, but thankfully Kaylee shared my enthusiasm at just seeing his hair.
Trying to capture a few moments on video i soon realised my batteries were dead! Replacing a battery with one that was in my bag i tried again... and what do you know? That was one was dead too! Having only moments before i was to meet him i begged my friend to lend me one of hers. Thankfully i managed to replace it just in time to see the lovely Kaylee go bounding up to him, I'm not sure what she said but she ended up getting a good hug from him, well maybe more of a grope. Next thing i know she's giving him a quick kiss on the cheek, then a second! After having her photo taken with him she then stood up and to my amazement - ruffled his hair! Twice in-fact!! Although she doesn't remember it now. Looks like the dutch courage did its job.
Next up it was me, i was so nervous my hands were starting to shake. Trying to remember he was just a normal guy, albeit a lovely handsome charming guy, i stepped forward handing my camera to the woman stood assisting with the signing, who had asked if id like my picture taken.
I cant remember exactly what he said but the general outline i can still remember.
He said hello, of course i said hello back.
"I know that girl" i said smiling and pointing at Kaylee as she left.
"Is she always like that?" he smiled.
"i don't think so, she has had a few drinks, she was very nervous." lol i don't think Kaylee would thank me for saying that. But my brain wasn't working as fast as my mouth was at that moment.
"Ahh" he answer back still smiling, not seeming to be too fazed from her attack of affection.
"Now, I will warn you now... I may grope you myself."
Oh no... I didn't just say grope did i?? I meant to say hug! Just hug! Not - oh god - GROPE! I could have died of embarrassment.
I don't remember his exact words at that point but he didn't sound to terrified by my freudian slip. i think he may have even thought i was having a laugh. Or perhaps he just didnt mind the idea of another grope... err hug!!
Still smiling he started signing my book - eventually signing it 'With love James May' and a X!
As he was signing my book i asked, "would you mind..."
But i stopped talking as i didnt want to interupt his writing... but when he stopped i almost forgot to continue... thankfully he prompted me.
"Would I mind...?" he smiled up at me.
"... signing my wine adventures DVD?" I smiled at him nervously.
"Of course! I'm glad someone bought it." he smiled taking the DVD from my hands.
That smile made my heart beat faster then it had been previously, any faster and i might have had a heart attack! lol.
I then went on to tell him how much i liked the first series and am currently enjoying the second, he said it was a lot of fun to make.
"Yeah it looks like great fun."
When signing the DVD he asked me if i would like it signed on the inside as he didn't think the pen would work on the shiny cover, i smiled at him and just said "which ever you prefer." Using the moment to stare at him a bit and take advantage of such a nice view.
"I'll just sign the first disk then"
So he signed the first disk, and then put another little kiss at the bottom. *swoons*
"Oh thank you" i gushed, "I'll never use it again, i'll just frame it!" i giggled.
He smiled and i felt brave enough to ask another question that someone had suggested to me.
"While I'm here i must ask, who's more annoying Jeremy Clarkson or Oz Clark?"
"Definitely Jeremy, Oz is a very funny man." he said a bit more, but of course i don't remember it completely.
Then i headed around the desk for a hug. I wasn't leaving without a hug! i was tempted to ask for a kiss but wasn't daring enough. I put my arm around him and gave him a friendly squeeze then turned to the camera for a picture, the picture came out very nice.
As the picture was done i stood up and asked, "you must love all the attention from beautiful females" as he had just received a lovely hug from myself and Kaylee along with a few kisses from her.
"oh yes" he smiled, "I've already got two phone numbers."
"well id give you mine but i doubt I've got any chance" i laughed and headed off out of the way.
And that was it. I met James May and all that time planning my outfit and make-up and hair had gone in little then over a minute.
He was lovely, his eyes, his face, his voice. James May is the perfect gentleman and although it was a short conversation, and i know i have forgotten little bits of it, ill never forget the day i met James May.
and a tiny tiny video i managed to get before my batteries died the first time:
