Unfortunately the effects of that bike accident have put paid to Schumi's return; his nec injury is not sufficiently recovered to cope with the stresses of top flight motorsport. Instead, Ferrari's test driver Luca Badoer will take Felipe Massa's seat (not to mention Rubens Barrichello's 'oldest man on the grid' crown).
It's a bit of a shame from a fan point of view - the race as described above by Flatin5th would have been a proper spectacle - but at least in Badoer Ferrari have a driver who is familiar with the cockpit of the current car, even if he hasn't driven it in its present form. Meanwhile, nobody's saying how long he's going to be standing in. I suspect how well things go at the European GP and how well Massa's recovery is going will play big parts in determining his tenure.

Well, Ferrari are calling for three cars in 2010, and Schumi's in the frame... It would solve what to do when Massa'a fit again if they get their way! I had visions of Massa dragging Schumi out of the car when he returns!

It's a huge pity Schumacher can't return, but thank god he hasn't decided to go ahead anyway. He's seen sense but I'm gutted too. I was really looking forward to seeing him back in the game. We can still hope that his neck will improve sufficiently to allow his return one day. My brother is going to this race and I expect he's feeling the same at the mo.

Brilliant qualifying session for the McLarens As for Luca Badoer I think Hamster could have done better

Pleased for Lewis and McLaren, but very disappointed in Brawn... given their previous performances, I was really expecting them to pull something out of the bag at the last minute! I thought Rubens would try for one last flying lap, but I guess McLaren were just too strong... tomorrow should be very interesting! And as for Red Bull?

I thought Mark was going out after the second session He was so slow At least he got a good lap in eventually. Vettel did OK (after covering the track in oil to start with ) Can't wait for tomorrow

Congratulations Reubens. Well deserved and fantastic for Lewis too, despite the Mclaren cock up. I love this year's F1 - it's still anyone's game.

and the man from McLaren sad it cost Lewis less than 2 seconds - rubbish! The team cost Lewis the race again. At least Jensons points lead hasnt been eaten into too much - and the BBC were writing Brawn off in Spa already!!!!

Hamilton said: "We win and we lose together. We had a tremendous effort to get us here so we cannot at all take second place for granted or be disappointed we didn't get the win because we've had extraordinary pace and it was a tremendous effort from everyone. "These things happen. I've had so many races for this team and this hardly ever happens. It's only the second time, I think." As usual Lewis is a gent about it.

Excellent race today. Leaves the Championship even more open Well done Kimmi (but did anyone else notice that he preferred to drink the Champers rather than spray it around ) and as for Fisi..... what a result for Force India Poor Jensen and Lewis. Wiped out at almost the start and neither of them at fault Alonso had a bad day too. Roll on Monza ;D

Piquet - did he spill the beans then? Flavio seams to think so!

It's pretty amazing whatever the truth ends up being, although it's not looking good for Renault. Why would Piquet Jnr, despite his lack of talent on the race track, potentially destroy any future he may have in the sport by doing this? Tit for tat? Seems a bit extreme. F1 seems to go from one disaster to another these days. It's a pity it can't get back to being about racing and nothing else.

I can't believe anybody would deliberately crash a car for reasons of safety plus those cars cost a fortune, surely no team can afford to waste so much money by ploughing it into a wall.

I know. It's quite unbelievable really, and yet who knows. Maybe Piquet is a spoilt little brat and can't stand losing face as he has. It must be tough to try to live up to a successful parent. It'll be fascinating whatever the outcome.

Good set of qualifying positions for Jenson - those in front on the grid arent a real threat to him YET.

This season is getting more and more interesting. Well done Lewis, and what the heck has happened to Sutil over the last few of races? I'm hoping the Brawns do well this weekend too.

Well done to the two front men and bad luck to Lewis. I think that shows what a great racer he is, and just how young he is too. Can't fault him though for trying his hardest.

Congratulations once again to Rubens and Jenson, and to Ross Brawn for an excellent race strategy ;D It was almost my dream podium today... devastated for Lewis, from pole to at least a guaranteed 3rd, to... I applaude his determination, but maybe he shouldn't have pushed so hard, and been happy with his certain podium finish?

It's going to be interesting when they have the hearing... The whole thing's starting to look really horrible and messy, but I do think the resignations are a tacit admission of guilt. Still, Flav sort of 'outing' Nelsinho was a bit of a low blow, I feel...
