yep - Renault get off very lightly indeed, while Briatori and Symonds get the ban!

And a big ban too. The usual F1 cover up.

They've been oddly lenient with things this season, and they seem to like suspended punishments all of a sudden. I think perhaps even the FIA and the WMSC know that these are difficult times - and although the people directly responsible appear to have sacrificed themselves (the ultimate responsibility lies with Flav, and he'll never be able to get involved in motorsport again - which is a bit of a shame really, because there is something inherently amusing about him wandering around like some kind of unintelligible, off-duty Santa impersonator), it would have had the effect of punishing people who really had nothing to do with the whole debacle if an immediate ban had been enforced because it would have put the ING Renault F1 team out of work. HOWEVER - it does seem a bit off that the punishment appears to be so light, given the risks that were taken at Singapore last year. Unlike the spying scandal last year, or Lewis being told to be economical with the truth over the radio, people could actually have been seriously hurt, or killed. Still, it's done now, so let's hope that's an end to all this kind of b*ll*cks and F1 starts getting its focus back to racing.
The 2009 season will go down in history as nothing if not 'interesting', anyway...

I think the punishment was a bit one sided - Max just wanted Flav out and he got what he wanted. You cant suspend some punishment and then give someone else a total lifetime ban. I dont condone what Flav did but considering what others got, his punishmentwas a bit harsh.

Well done Rubens and Mark on the 1-2 on the grid Jensen bottled it again. Sorry to any Jensen fans out there but if he wins the F1 Championship it will be a travesty as far as I'm concerned

Hmm... Jenson's had another bad quali, but so has Vettel. OK, the second part of the season hasn't been so great for him, but if he can pull himself back from the grid position he's in and score points, I don't see how it makes it a travesty. The point is, whoever has the highest score at the end of the season is the winner and it's that simple - and there are three people realistically who could still win it, which keeps it interesting. What I will say is that Rubens has been more consistent and has been getting a lot more out of the car in the latter part of the season. Yes, I'm a Jenson fan, and have been for some time, but I'm not sure his nerve will hold. Still, if he keeps on scoring points, even from bad grid positions, he might hang in there. I'm not holding my breath.
I'd like to see Rubens win today. It takes everything down to the last race of the season (as it did last year), which keeps it interesting, and it would mean so much to him, given that he usually doesn't perform well in Brazil.
What has been disappointing this season is that there have only been two teams who've really got their acts together - and they're the only ones who are in with a chance now. If anything has made this season a travesty it's the way that politics and nonsense have overshadowed development and competition. I've a feeling 2009 will be remembered as the season where only Red Bull and Brawn could make a decent car while everyone else was a bit rubbish, Flav got the boot and Renault came perilously close to going the same way, BMW called it a day and the grid was peppered with inexperienced and lacklustre drivers.
Still, it hasn't been boring.

Fabulous race and fabulous win for Jensen with some stunning overtaking manoeuvres. I couldn't bear to watch at times. He soooo deserves the world championship after years of putting up with a poor car.

Ever so disappointed for Rubens (*smaps Lewis*), but thrilled beyond measure for Jenson, and for Ross Brawn, and the Brawn GP team as a whole. There was some impressive driving during the race (if Kobayashi was actually au fait with the rules of F1, he might have placed even higher). Shame the same can't be said for Jenson's singing It's like a fairytale. Brawn GP have come from nowhere to double winners in a single season and I couldn't be more chuffed ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

whats with this Lewis bashing? ?? Rubens was on the radio complaining about the tyre vibrations at least a couple of laps before Lewis caught and passed him! Good result for Lewis - but an even better one for the boy Jenson.

whats with this Lewis bashing? ?? Probably because the vibration was reportedly coming from the front right of the car and the tyre that was punctured was the rear left, which was the one that was clipped by Lewis... But these things happen in a race. For me, it was lighthearted smappage because it was unfortunate that this was how Rubens's infamously appalling Interlagos luck played out...

Of course I did miss the race so have watched what I can since. Looks like it was one of the best of the season and great to see Jenson hold his nerve and do some of his best driving to win the title and shove certain criticism exactly where it belongs. Whilst all the press seem to be keen to point out how he rose from 14th to 5th, Hamilton managed something like 18th to 3rd. I hope his car continues to improves for next year as I think he will be taking that title back. Well done Mark Webber too.

Absolutely, Ly - in all the madness (and also the focus of the reporting of the race, which barely looked at the front-runners once it looked like Jenson was doing something interesting) I completely forgot to mention how well Mark Webber, and particularly Lewis Hamilton, ran yesterday. Lewis must have driven phenomenally too. And I agree, if he continues to show the form he's had in the latter part of the season (and he has a decent car to support him), Lewis might well be claiming that title back.

I caught the explosive start to the race, but had to watch it in full when I got home last night... absolutely stunning! I'm delighted for Jenson, who showed a spectacular return to form last night, and proved he fully deserved to win the title, but I'm not ashamed to admit that I shed more than a few tears for Rubens... I would have loved for him to win his home GP *shakes fist at Lewis* And let's not forget Mark Webber, whose race win was more than a little overshadowed in all the excitement

Thanks korri. Sums things up very well. My gripe with Jenson is just as described by the writer - when everything is in his favour, he is brilliant but when he comes up against a slightly wayward set of circumstances (eg car not as he would like it) he, IMHO, just gives up and settles for getting round. Someone with the true will to win makes the best of whatever motorised cr*p they have been given and tries their damndest to improve their position, even if that is only from 16th on the grid to finishing 14th. However, he realised yesterday that if he didn't get his finger out the Championship was going elsewhere. Pity he didn't give it the beans in the last 5 or 6 races and win it like a real champ. It will be interesting to see who ends up where next season. The one driver I loved yesterday was Kobayashi. Talk about giving it a go ;D He was excellent. He should get a drive next season for sure. Congratulations to Mark Webber. A fantastic drive that was completely overshadowed by Jensons Championship. As for Rubens and the 'Hamilton' incident - I'm with flatin5th. Rubens was already having problems and was not going to catch Mark no matter how hard he tried. I felt for him too. His home crowd and it just did not work out Roll on Abu Dhabi

Poor Mark, his second win ever and it barely even got a mention here in his home country. Blooming Jenson ;D
It is good for Mark to be getting his wins mid way/end of season when everyones cars are on a more level playing field, whereas Jenson had the huge advantage of Ross Brawns genius at the begining of the season.......will be interesting to see how he goes next year, but as much as I like Jenson, he sort of "fell" over the line to the championship in the end.

He had a better advantage than Lewis last year though. Let's face it - Lewis was lucky to win it last year. It was blind luck and he is the better driver and natural talent out of the two of them. It's often luck that wins a Championship over brilliant drives.

I do hope that Jensen Button doesn't partner Hamilton next year. Could be a huge error for all parties involved. It's sad that greed seems to get in the way of all of this. I'd like the new Mercedes/Brawn team to know I am more than happy to drive next year for them and I would do it for £1.5 million. Think of the savings boys. ;D ;D ;D

I was just thinking that money is not the best way to decide who to drive for. If Jensen goes to McLaren I think it will be a huge mistake. In the same car, Lewis will beat the pants off Jensen except at one or two tracks that suit Jensens laid back driving style. Where is Jensens loyalty? He stuck with Brawn/Honda and was WC and then considers doing a runner for more money Has he not earned enough for a comfortable lifestyle after all this time? I don't get it

news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8363892.stm A great pity. I hope he, and the team, don't end up with egg all over their faces. I also hope Hamilton whips his arse next year. I get the whole "I am world champion now" thing, but if £3 million, or even twice that, isn't enough for someone a year, then I think they are being egotistical and wrongly advised.

Do hope McLaren know what they are doing. I heard Eddie Jorden say that McLaren are the best place team to handle two world champions in the same team. Um, that didn't work with the Hamilton / Alonso partnership.

McLaren for the drivers and manufacturers title anyone? The thing is - Hamilton or Button? My money is on Hamilton! I have just read that Brawn 'let him go' after he was spotted making a personal visit to McLaren HQ on Friday!

I can't say I'm massively surprised that Jenson's moving on, and I'm not going to have a go at him any more than I would Rubens for going to WilliamsF1 next season. To be honest, I thought it sounded intriguing when the rumours first started a few weeks back - and if nothing else, it should settle the 'Lewis or Jenson: which of them is better?' argument, at least for the time being.
(having been a fan of Jenson for some time, my heart says I want him to do better, but my head says on a level playing field, Lewis is probably the more talented of the two)

I'm just intrigued by the Kimi rumours he is going rallying. He has his own quick Punto (but he crashed that) and if FIAT are going to have their own team, he is just the man to head it up! The news people say he is looking to drive for a team, but he doesnt have a very good record and will want paying too much - and he is stll under a Ferrari contract (AFAIK) - A FIAT rally team drive is looking the best bet for 2010
