Yeah, they know that if they are pregnant, they will get benefits and a council house and whatnot. If the Government made it harder for them to access things like that, they might think twice about getting pregnant in the first place and then maybe a few lives could have been spared.

A subject with which I am all too familiar as an ex-fraud investigator for the DSS. Babies are seen as a passport to a life of idleness. I have visited girls (can't call them women as they are too young) with babies and have been faced with her mum and grandma too, all on benefits. My sister was left by her useless husband with two small (under 5 years) children. Did she claim benefits? Did she b*ggery. Got the children into a council-run nursery and got herself a job. I remember at the time how much I admired her for it. It's just far too easy to take the 'let's claim as much as possible' option

Yep... I chose not to have children, as my financial situation was never stable enough to support a child... maybe I was doing it all wrong?

I know women who have got themselves Jobs but some of them took a bit longer than others because the private nursery's where just asking too much money. So i think childcare is another area which needs to be looked at. Maybe Nursery's that are run at cost and not profit open to people on all incomes could help.

Liz - No, I didn't mean it that way exactly, I just mean that that is why some young people have children, because they know what they are entitled to, I am not saying it's right or wrong, people make their own choices. You want children, have them, you don't, then don't but if you do have them you should be capable of looking after them.
Nobody - That is a good idea. Or something like a volunteer playgroup maybe.

Yes UM, I was agreeing with you... if you want to have children, then you should have the means to support them, not get pregnant, and rely on the state to pay for them Essentially, I could never afford children, yet my taxes are supporting other women's offspring

Sorry Liz, I have been picking up the erong end of the stick with things today. No offence intended. I never want to have children, there are children in the family, I can enjoy spending time with them, do fun things and then at at the end of the day hand them back to their parents. If it was yours, you couldn't do that. I know I don't have the patience to have one 24/7, that would drive me crazy!

Ah I love flying. But you're definitely right Mojo, it's great to see that one one side you've got the humourous yet scathing remarks in his articles about things in general (ie "vegetablists" ) and then you get the serious side, like how the crash affected him and his own personal experiences and it's refreshing to see journalism that's honest. That being said, the mental image I'm getting of him being excited by the Vulcan is absolutely cracking me up. ;D

My man is mad on the Vulcan and it's launch back into the skies. In fact he is at an air show today. I recently was in Bristol and visited the SS Great Britain, plus I save Concorde memorabilia. So in that article there's bits for us both!

Mojo - Would you like to be a passenger in a Lambo now instead? My mate loves the Vulcan plane too, she donated money to the charity that was helping to get it flying again. She will be pleased to see it up and whooshing!

As long as we don't go on any scary mountain roads, yes. ;D
Yeah, that part made me laugh too. (his reaction to the Vulcan) ;D ;D

Yeah, what made it even funnier is that he was running around like a child at seeing the plane and his kids just weren't interested.

I think Jeremy was just referring to blokes, girlies can get away with pretty much anything, to a certain extent.

I can think of very few people other than Jeremy who could get away with wearing the 'worst word in the world' emblazoned across their chest.
My latest t-shirt was a design I spotted Tom Ford wearing on Fifth Gear on Monday. It was a horse fitted with a V8 over the phrase 'HORSE POWER'. It amused me ;D
