I finally saw the Toy stories special and thought it was great. James' enthusiasm is so endearing. A kid in a man's body. I remember flying those balsawood planes with my brothers.

I associate balsa wood gliders with childhood holidays at the seaside. My brother and I used to go into this little shop in the village where we stayed which was full of treasures like buckets and spades and kites and also the little balsa kits, which I remember were wrapped in this sort of heavy tissue paper. We'd each buy one and my brother's would be completely properly and mine would be stuck together crooked with bits hanging off it because I had no patience.
I have more patience these days, but still no skill. My balsa wood glider would still be crooked and would still crash into the nearest sand dune

We used to get balsa wood gliders (with rubber bands) to assemble in sample bags at the Exhibition (large agricultural show in the city). They worked pretty well.

What's he eating when he turns up in that ever so slightly girly red jacket?

He's got a gobful of something, that's for certain. The man always seems to be eating; I went to a signing and he never seemed to stop. I suppose his excuse was that it was gifts brought for him.
(I'm not sure about the jacket either. He certainly has an....eclectic sense of fashion. Sorry, James.)

What's he eating when he turns up in that ever so slightly girly red jacket? It looks like a child's synthetic fleece lined coat with "official looking" pretend insignia patches on the shoulders. What's with him and the large closure buttons like on the yellow Paddington toggle coat. Is he arthritic? OK I'm kidding, it's eccentric and amusing. I guess why not. Wait, didn't someone suspect that was a Santa costume in another pic. in another thread. That just makes it funnier. ;D Almost liking the little OD bag though. Wonder if he rode his bike over that day. What do you think is in there? Snacks? ;D

It was me who thought it was a Santa costume. I honestly didn't believe that was his own jacket!

Anyone get the impression he finds something he likes, then buys it in as many different colours as he can get his hands on?

Anyone get the impression he finds something he likes, then buys it in as many different colours as he can get his hands on? That's definitely true of those godawful deck shoes - a while ago he bought several pairs in at least three different colours (though don't tell anyone, but I actually quite like the blue ones)...

Well, he has got it in that custard yellow (I'm sure it's the same design). And I do wonder if he buys his jeans as a job lot, or at least the same make and style every time. Anyone get the impression he finds something he likes, then buys it in as many different colours as he can get his hands on? That's definitely true of those godawful deck shoes - a while ago he bought several pairs in at least three different colours (though don't tell anyone, but I actually quite like the blue ones)... I'm of the same opinion as you on that one, Wy. I actually think the blue ones are quite cool, and for a man with larger feet, they're a damn sight better than those bright orange leather 'clown' shoes he has (sorry, James).

I don't know if anyone else has seen that there's been some follow up to James's paper glider design which he demonstrated in the Radio Times. There's nothing to link to, as it's been on the letters page, but someone noticed a similarity between James's design and one which appeared in a Rupert Bear annual in the 1950's. A load of RT readers have dug out their old Rupert annuals and Radio Times have duly sent the glider design on to James, with a view to having a fly-off between the two designs.
RT's most recent note was that they had sent James the instructions but he was away filming in the US at the time. Watch this space, I guess.

Well, I suppose it makes sense. James himself said his favored paper airplane design was an amalgamation of his father's preferred design and that of a friend. It's not impossible that the friend had been taught the Rupert Bear design by an older sibling or similar.

Does anyone know what songs are being used in the last Toy Stories?

Dont we all just love the fact he's always eating? ;D That's defo IT what I like most about him. The jacket looks girl-ish. Perhaps he borrowed it for one reason or another?

Very nice interview. James looked quite comfortable. A Mecano motorcycle? Interesting. Can't wait to see Oz trying that out! ;D

In the interview he did a few months ago he mentioned that he was hoping to have Oz in the sidecar as his copilot. This could be good. Very, very good, indeed.

Further update - sounds as if he's been out all day and at some point lost the sidecar (and Oz). There's some suggestion that he might have to go out again tomorrow to complete the course, but I'm not too sure about that. He's certainly working for his money, and I'm really looking forward to seeing the result when the programme eventually comes out.

I hope Oz didn't bring back kippers and mead - that would be a highly unpleasant combination. Taken individually, they're nice, but as a combination...eeurgh!
I love those two together - I hope someday they do an Oz & James Great Aussie Wine Adventure. Those two in the Antipodes would be epic!
