TBH, although it looks it on that photo, the Albert Dock isn't that massive from one side to the other, in the grand scheme of things - perhaps the bridge will bisect one of the corners... there used to be a floating weather map there! It's also popular as a tourist attraction, so if they want lots of people to go and see the finished thing (and the work in progress) it's perfect!
(That, and it's a great place to be stuck for a few days filming - me and some friends had a road trip up and a night out in Liverpool in January and it was a stonking night out - have fun, James, and have a cocktail in Alma de Cuba if you get chance!)

*is confused* According to www.amazon.co.uk/James-Mays-Toy-Stories-May/dp/1844861074: James' toy adventures include: (...) constructing the first life-size Meccano bridge across the River Cam in Cambridge.Perhaps they changed their minds? I definitely have seen someone mentioning her boyfriend was asked to take part in this in Liverpool.

There was a 'tweet' last Sunday from someone whose daughter was in Liverpool, and met him... the Scalextric Challenge was in Liverpool yesterday and today, (where I went today), and James was there yesterday... and there's the bridge!

Yes PP, just like me... and even worse, I was in Liverpool yesterday lunchtime too, not far from where he was, but didn't know he was there!

I'm always envious of all those people who just happen upon them unexpectedly when filming... I couldn't find 'em with sat nav!

Come to think of it, if you don't count Top Gear Live, the last time I turned up somewhere hoping to see James was Blackpool Illuminations, and didn't see him then either! He's avoiding me!

That's bad luck. They were supposed to be filming at a pub closer to Duxford for the Alfa challenge, but too many people turned up so they had to find another location. The week before, we all piled into the car to go for a pub lunch in the next village as the one opposite is too expensive. As we passed the pub there were 15-20 Morgan cars in the carpark (they looked stunning!). I reckon Hammond might've been in there and recommended it as a possible place to film. I probably missed them twice in a week ;D Anyway, I'll stop derailing the thread

If any members are near the Albert Dock in Liverpool in the next few weeks, keep a look out. Apparently, that is where the Meccano bridge will be built. We'll have to wait for Lucy to come online again. Maybe she can tell where she had this bit of info from. I have seen it as well somewehere, but it seems to have vanished of the Internet.

Funny article in Broadcast Now in which the producer of Toy Stories tells all about how they created the garden. But just as James was encouraging the masses to rise up and overthrow the establishment, who had clearly ignored the will of the people, the RHS intervened and presented James with a gold medal. Made out of Plasticine. The revolution will have to wait. ;D

Confirmation is in: the Mecanno bridge is being build in Liverpool. One of the dudes over on FinalGear is a engineer at Liverpool uni and is currently building this bridge. Go, Liz, Go!! ;D Edit: "The bridge is to span the canal outside of the Liver Building... 11 meter span and more Meccano than you can shake a stick at!!" *off to Google Maps to find pic*

Lots of bridges, but I can't spot any Mecanno ones yet. I guess they will be building parts of it indoors before actually putting it in place. I have posted the link on FinalGear and asked our Mole if this is the right place.

Thanks linden... I'm sure you'll all keep me informed! As I've said, geographically I live the other side of the Mersey, directly opposite the Liver Buildings, so can't physically 'keep an eye' on the location without a special trip (or a very strong pair of binoculars) ;D
