People forget that as well as a comedy actor, Hugh Dennis is a pretty good impressionist (he used to be among the voice cast for Spitting Image back in the 80s). I wonder if he'll 'do' James at any point?

I used to like Hugh in Mary Whitehouse Experience. Not James though, is he? Was looking forward to that. Never mind!

Hugh Dennis is an excellent drinking partner. He's braver than James with some of those close Oz encounters. Maybe the three of them should go off together ;D

*snicker* I think I'm going to have to get the MWE DVDs out. They're on my dressing table, for some reason, so I won't have a problem finding them

Just watched this programme, quite good but Hugh doesn't have such a good command of the English language as James so I missed the rich descriptions that James does so well. I agree that I couldn't see James getting into some of the antics that Hugh did. It all got very camp at times. Do like the sound of Oz's Buck Fizz recipe.

I have to agree with you Brycegold, it did all get a bit too camp compared to what would have happened if our James had been doing it.... however having said that I did still think it was a hilarious programme ;D And like you said Hugh wasn't able to express himself as eloquently as James. I just hope Oz and James do get together for another series though as it was not the same

If this is right, and it seems so (sadly I'm not going to dip in my pocket too) it's sad, sad because I really thought those two worked much better together than the other chap.....either Mr May is far too busy or a diary clash (same thing really, well y'know) I shall now have a small cry On the plus side wonder what's on the horizon for Mr May.

Wasn't able to read the article, but I wouldn't get too upset too soon. During several of the interviews James did last December, he mentioned that he and Oz were thinking about doing new programmes together, but maybe moving away from wine. Hmmm. If you can get to the article, please copy and paste!

BBC2 is lining up Hugh Dennis to permanently replace James May on Oz and James’ Big Wine Adventure.
The Outnumbered star featured alongside regular host Oz Clarke in the series’ Christmas special – titled Oz and Hugh Drink to Christmas – and is now expected to join the show on an ongoing basis. The new title of the series has yet been confirmed.
It is understood May wants to leave the RDF Television-produced show because of other commitments. He also presents Top Gear, James May’s Toy Stories and has a first-look with Plum Pictures for ideas he wants to get off the ground.
A source told Broadcast the 60-minute Christmas special was seen as a trial run for Dennis and was regarded by BBC execs as a success. Airing at 9pm on Sunday 20 December, it attracted 2.4m and an 8.8% share – a little below the 9.7% slot average.
An RDF Television spokeswoman said Dennis has not been confirmed for the show but that “Oz and Hugh Drink to Christmas was a success for us so obviously we’d be delighted have a new series confirmed and have Hugh on board again”.
The BBC had not responded by the point of publication.

Thanks for the copy-paste, nobody. All I can say to this is: damn, and with James' schedule, I'm not completely surprised. But, who knows what the future will bring? Could mean they will do something together that has nothing to do with wine.

If it's his choice, I'm sure it's because there are loads of other nice programmes lined up. Maybe a world trip with Top Gear? ;D Although, considering what I posted earlier about what he said during the recent interviews, I wonder how much of it is true.

As long as we get lots of James on TV do we really care what shape or form it takes ;D besides I'm Oz and James meet up at a local hostilary from time to time

I'm sure they're both really busy, and let's admit it, the concept was already somewhat played out, but I'm a little sad they're not planning to be on television again. They seemed to get along well, and it was nice to see James irritating a pedant instead of being the irritating pedant.

Lots of James doing any type of programme is good but I'm sad if there isn't going to be any more Oz and James, they worked so well as "a couple" *she says in the nicest possible way*.
