Well the deed is done. The stupid vet couldn't help unless she ran hundreds of dollars of tests. I despise those kind of vets. He couldn't walk. My brother paid for a vet to come to my house and my son buried him. Now he's climbing trees and hanging out with all my other deceased pets. In my heart of hearts I new he wasn't strong enough for the trip but he almost made to 16 with diabetes for 6.5 yrs. RIP my old man Little Guy. I love you.

Oh Vivienne, I'm sorry But I know you did a kind thing, and wherever Little Guy is now, there are no more blood tests and injections, and he's free of all the struggles. *HUGE HUGS*

So sorry to hear of your loss Vivienne. Take what little comfort you can from knowing that you did the right thing and that he is no longer in any pain. No matter how many times you go through losing a pet it never gets any easier does it? Big hugs to you.

Crying with you, Vivienne. I think you did marvellously by him, keeping him going all that time. Sending you hugs.

DaVinci has been with us for about two weeks now and he is starting to come out of his shell. Although he is still definitely my hubby's cat he is warming to me as well. Yesterday he came downstairs to see me a few times and followed me into the bathroom. This morning he came into the kitchen while I was making myself a latte and he "talked" to me. Then he was sitting on the stairs and he batted at me as I walked by and I stopped and played with him through the railing. He's not as cuddly with me as he is with my hubby but maybe as time progresses. I'm just happy he is acknowledging my presence. ;D Also, Valmont seems to like DaVinci. I often see them sitting near each other and Valmont has been coming out and being social more. (He became reclusive when we lost Hemmie.) That makes me very happy because I was worried about him.

Thanks for all the thoughts and hugs. My problem is I've been alone as the only human but always had my buds with me. Now I am truly alone. I'm what you would call a pet parent. I've been told numerous times that I care about animals more than humans.

I've been told numerous times that I care about animals more than humans. I'm the same way Viv. In general, I care far more for animals than for people. Today, I dropped off my application to be a foster mommy for kittens. They were especially happy to hear that I am willing to bottle feed. They said that most people don't like to bottle feed and they always need someone who is willing. The only problem is that they aren't interviewing new foster people until the office gets its new director in mid March. So I have about a months to wait. No big deal. Just gives me more time to get my place ready for the home inspection.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, Viv! I hope you're okay Aeromanda: is there actually people who doesn't like to bottlefeed..? Even though you have to get up several times in the middle of the night, I think it sounds like a lovely job! When I first moved here to this farm last year, we had a baby roe deer which we had to bottlefeed I loved doing it, and I must admit that I hope someone finds another orphaned roe deer, moose or something and brings it to us this year too!

Oh good, it's not just me. I was going to same the same thing. I don't mind losing a little sleep to care for the animals especially if it's feeding them. Maybe it's a mothering gene. If so, I think I've got two copies.

Oh good, it's not just me. I was going to same the same thing. I don't mind losing a little sleep to care for the animals especially if it's feeding them. Maybe it's a mothering gene. If so, I think I've got two copies. I find it hard to believe too Silje. I can't imagine seeing those cute little furry faces (or any cute little furry faces) and not wanting to hold and take care of them. I certainly don't mind losing a bit of sleep over it. I guess if the other volunteers have a job during the day to which they can not take a litter of kittens and they can't go home every three hours it would be tough to take on a litter of nursing babies that don't have a mommy. But I don't work outside of the house so I can take care of them no problem. And I have wanted to ever since the last time I bottle fed about 8 years ago. So, Silje, I understand what you mean when you say that you hope someone turns in a foster Roe Deer. It isn't that we want the critters to be orphaned but we do want the fun of taking care of them. I don't know if it is a manifestation of a maternal gene or not. I have fed and changed and taken care of (human) babies before but there is no special appeal in it for me. Certainly, when I think of having children, mostly, I just cringe. But the thought of taking care of fuzzy babies just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Maybe it is my mothering instinct it is just misdirected to fuzzy babies.

I know exactly what you mean, aeromanda. Even when I was little I had no interest in baby dolls, and although I had 'teenage' dolls my only interest was to design clothes for them, I never wanted to 'nurse' them
In contrast, I had a vast army of toy animals who I looked after with great care, and as I got older I had pets too.
After I married there was the inevitable conversation as to whether we would have children, and the final consensus was that we would have cats instead, which was just as well as my experience of babies and small children was nil then, and not much more now!

My friend who posted the kitten video there is Scottish so those of you in the UK could feasibly adopt the little fuzzers if you wanted. I've not heard of them having set homes yet.
I spent too much time yesterday replaying that video. The cute was a nice distraction. ;D

Who here has a cat that likes to bring in the outdoors to you? My brother's cat Dexter brought in a toad, a few mice, even a mole. He brings home some of his cat pals as well and when he wants to be let inside he throws himself at my brother's bedroom window! The other cat, Guinness, is a black and white female with no teeth and I just love her. She's 14 and very cuddly. She and Dexter don't get along but they don't inflict physical pain either. I bet when Fusker was a kitten he might have tried to climb up curtains? Christmas trees would be a hazard as well!

My DaVinci is a straw thief! Yesterday, I brought home a fountain drink and had it sitting on the table next to the spot where I sit. DaVinci came over, grabbed the straw in his mouth and pulled it out of the cup. He took it on the floor and batted it around a bit. Then he took it in his mouth and took it to my husband. My husband threw it and the cat bounded after it grabbed it in his mouth, took it back to my husband, and dropped it in my husband's lap again. I have never had a cat that played fetch before! Today, I brought home another drink with a straw in it and he knocked the drink over trying to get the straw out of it.

Mayfayre's girlcat Summer is a black and white cat with no teeth too A couple of summers ago we were watching TV when I caught a distinctive movement out of the corner of my eye. She'd herded in a froglet and we've no idea where she found it, but we had a job and a half getting it out from under the computer table! Summer's son Lightning likes bringing all kinds of things in, but especially mice. He specialises in bringing not-quite-dead mice in and letting them go in the hall. When MF's on her holidays, especially in the summer, he brings me lots and lots of presents - mostly little brown birds, but on one occasion, half a mouse, which was particulaly nice. Come to think about it, he brought me half a frog once, too...

Lightning's brother, Pippin, likes to play fetch. My friend who has him had a little blue bow from the top of a Christmas present he was chasing & it got underneath a chest in the middle of the floor, so she poked a ruler underneath to get it out. Not sure whether it wa her or the cat who was more confused when 2 little blue bows flew out!
