James is just adorable! And he does look like a Norwegian Forest cat, possibly a Siberian.

The last 2 kittens left the house yesterday. Normally she wanted one but she took both of them so James is alone with his mommy now. He cried a little this morning when I was in the bathroom and he wants to be with me all the time. I guess it's gonna take a while for him to get over it. But was son played a lot with him this morning. Can't believe they are all gone.

I have lost my last pusscat today (up to 3 years ago I had 3 cats but lost the others in quick succession around 2 years ago). Molly was 14 and had been suffering from kidney failure for 18 months. It was so sad to have to take her to the vets this morning but it was the right thing to do. My partner, Tim, sat up with her all last night and we both knew it was time. She will leave a big hole in my life but will never be forgotten. I can't imagine a catless house, so before too long I think there may be kittens.....

So sorry to hear that Dit, it's the hard part of loving a pet - but take comfort in knowing that she was loved and cared for, and that you loved her enough not to let her suffer.
And when the time's right, I'm sure you'll have paws walking all over your heart again...

That is very sad Dit, but I'm sure you did the right thing. We all look forward to hearing about the patter of tiny paws.

I'm so sorry to hear about Molly, Dit. It's one of the hardest decisions we have to make. You gave Molly your love and a wonderful home, and in turn she gave you her unconditional love. Some of the best relationships are with our furry ones. A good friend of mine recently lost her 12 year-old cat to diabetes and an unfortunate accident. Two months later, she is now the proud mama of Miss Bee, a gorgeous grey tiger. They help us heal. *Huge HUGS*

Dit, I'm so sorry to hear about your poor kitty. Losing a pet is certainly one of the hardest things that life deals us, particularly when we have to decide on the timing. I'm sure you'll find room in your heart for another furry critter when the time is right.

Oh Dit, I'm so sorry. I know how much you love your furry babies. 14 years is a nice long run though. Terribly sorry it was her time. *Hugs*

Hugs to you Dit. She had a long and happy life with you, and credit to you for not letting her suffer. We had to let our old dog go 2 months ago. He was 16 and his time had come. Only now not expecting to see him at the gate but I know it was the right thing to do. Allow yourself to grieve....you'll know when the time is right for another furry friend.

Many sympathies to you.It is hard not to be selfish and do the "right" thing. I do a lot of helping rescues on facebook and some on twitter. Your baby is at the Rainbow bridge running and playing. She is always with you and will wait til you are together again. She will let you know the time to get another cat/pet. This may sound mushy but that is what I truly believe. Helping to rescue animals has brought a sense or accomplishment to my life and depressed me to no end on the ones that aren't saved. You need to grieve but if you feel the time is not right to get another pet you might want to volunteer to be a foster for a rescue.

Only just seen this, so sorry Dit, losing all 3 cats so close to each other is horrid. Hugs.
My friend took in 2 16 year old brother cats a couple of months back (divorce & arse of a soon-to-be-ex made them homeless) and one of them went missing 3 weeks back No response to notices or door to door enquireies, so she had to tell the lady they came from he was "missing in action" and assumed he wouldn't be seen again.
Yesterday morning, she came down to find him sitting in front of the empty food bowl miaowing pitifully. He wolfed down 3 pouches of cat food and some chicken, then curled up to sleep as though nothing had happened! She now remembers why she had dogs for so long and not cats!

My mum had two brother cats, also. One of them went missing for nine days - same procedure, notices, door to door enquiries etc etc, then he walked in through the catflap looking all glossy and smug.
Someone had obviously been feeding him. Probably thought he was a pitiful stray. I've acquired cats like that, too.

When I was seven years old, we got a kitten called Sindy (with an S, just like the dolls). She was always a bit of an ornery little bugger, but we loved her. And when I was 14, we moved to Devon, opposite a caravan park. A couple of years later, Sindy got sick with a kidney problem, and she had to have medication every day and injections every couple of weeks - but because we loved her, we carried on with this. She hated it. Every day was a fight to get the pills down her, and she'd be sick in the car going to the vet. But we had to keep taking her, because the vet told us that if she missed an injection for more than a week or two, there would be nothing more that could be done for her, and she would be dead within the month.
And then one day Sindy disappeared. It was all very sad, but we assumed that she'd had enough and done that cat thing of taking herself away somewhere quiet. We didn't even consider that this more or less coincided with the start of the holiday season. And slowly, we moved on, started thinking about other cats and gradually got used to her not being there - until a day at the end of the holiday season, when all the caravans were closing for the winter and my dad was birdwatching with his binoculars (there were lots of trees - he wasn't spying on ladies in bikinis or anything) and he saw a familiar black and brown shape moving between the empty holiday homes. Sindy had a spinal deformity, so she had an unusual way of moving, and her back legs looked too long for the rest of her, so she was pretty unmistakable. She was also, despite six months off her medication, decidedly not dead. She'd just spent her summer living on the campsite.
When she came back, none the worse for wear, she never went back to that vet. We eventually lost her when I was twenty eight years old, and she was twenty one. I'll never forget my grumpy old lady!

Just to prove that things move on, after our sad time the boy-cat stray who visited Mollie towards the end and was very respectful towards her, moved in about three weeks ago. Well, we hope he's a stray, because we've had him at the vet to be checked over, and he's going back next week for virus tests and vaccinations. He's definitely Bloke's cat rather than mine, in fact I don't think he likes me very much (that's the cat, not Bloke) but he's got his paws well under the table now. He's a good looking little bugger but has his weaknesses, such as chewing his way out of a wicker cat basket on the way to the vet, bringing in the local wildlife in a fairly dead condition and stealing part of the weekend joint from its defrosting position on top of the cooker. Still, he's quite sweet the rest of the time. He's the one on the left, by the way! In addition, we've booked to see some tortie and white kittens this week with a view to taking two, and just hope the feline household will work out amicably. I couldn't imagine having a house without cats (plural) for very long.

Well, I went and did it. Went to see the tortie kitties this afternoon and having spent several hours viewing quite a number of sweethearts and sitting on the floor of a few cat-runs we came away with a tortie and white girl and her black and white brother. Of course, things never turn out as you expect. The plan was to have two girls for a quieter life, especially now we have VC (the Visiting Cat, who is 'done' but quite masculine) but one tortie and white girl stood out - I suspect she's going to rule the roost in the end, feisty little bugger - and although she had three tortie sisters the other who stood out was her brother, who reminds me very much of my Jasper, who I lost a couple of years ago.
VC has been pretty good so far and has mainly ignored the kitties, though there hasn't been a proper face-to-face confrontation yet. When they were secured in a basket and he went up to it, the girlie reared up on her hind legs and hissed at him, so he retreated. The kits have now disappeared under the sideboard and VC has left the building. The plan is to take the kits into the bedroom tonight (plus litter tray, which they have not worked out so far) then leave VC the rest of the house and catflap access.
I'll post some pics on here as soon as I can get some, as the kits, being kittens, of course are gorgeous. Of course I'll have to find them first.....

Ah yes, the joys of persuading kittens that the place to "go" is the litter tray, not round it, or under the computer desk, or in the plant pot... but they're so cute you have to forgive them. Enjoy them being kittens while you can

I promised pics of the kitties and here's the first attempt, though they're not very good. I promise not to become a kittie bore, though I will post a couple later if I can actually get them to stand still while facing the camera! They really are very small And always eating This is VC, the Visiting Cat. Although he moved out on a temporary basis as soon as the kits arrived, he came back for a warm and comfortable evening in tonight before vanishing into the garden in pursuit of something or other. He loves Bloke
