Dit, if you click on James' address in your tweet and then on his profile page, you'll get to see your tweet. But as amie8 says, you need to make sure you click on 'all' tweets. Glad to see you've joined the dark side! ;D

I had a tweet from the former F1 driver Taki Inoue today - he's a bit of a legend because he was just so hopeless ;D (he used to crash a lot, and after one incident managed to get himself run over by the medical car that was coming to his aid). I also notice that Richard is going to be doing standup comedy in New York tonight. Crikey, does that boy know how to pick tough jobs?! I noticed Adam Ferrara was asking which club he'd be in, so maybe he'll have some support from his TG US counterpart

Assuming Hammond's standup gig is part of his TV show? Otherwise, he really is starting to spread himself a little thin!

The only way to check that yours has reached its target is to do the old search thing, and make sure you click "all" tweets, or you will only get a selection of them. Dit, if you click on James' address in your tweet and then on his profile page, you'll get to see your tweet. But as amie8 says, you need to make sure you click on 'all' tweets. Now you see, that's what I mean. I've gone through all the tweets both on his profile page and on a general search under 'James May' and it's just not there. It turns up on my own page but there's no sign of it on his, so presumably it's not landed there. The other thing I don't understand is that I'm sure some people have said they get all of James' tweets as texts. I filled in the correct details about my mobile but nothing's come through. Did I dream that bit? Oh, and in the meantime I've re-sent my first message, then found it on my page. So if it has gone through properly and I'm just looking in the wrong place, now James will have received it twice and will think I'm an idiot. Why do I make a fool of myself like this? And am I the only person who cocks up these things?.....and I've just realised that that one hasn't come up on the James search page either, though others addressed to @mrjamesmay are up there, tweeted long after I did. So it looks as if I'm tweeting into the ether! I hate technology sometimes! Help!

Deep breath, Dit.
I saw one from you come up last night, but I haven't seen another one since. Are you sure you tweeted it to James, which you do from the box on his page, or did you just tweet it into the ether?
When you tweet, watch out for the little "your tweet has been sent" message to confirm it has gone correctly. It could be there, but lost amongst the mass of detritus on his page.
Don't panic - you'll sort it out!

Well, Hammo's definitely trotting around NY at the moment - someone I know on Twitter works there and she's just spotted him

#BreathingIntoBrownPaperBagToAvoidHyperventilating
(sorry!)
OK, I think I may have got it now. In fact, James may have got it (see what I did there?) more than once by now, due to my incompetence, so I hope he'll accept my apologies!
You've all been very patient with me.....

Feel free to block. I'm easy!

I love watching Twitter @mrjamesmay when the man has just tweeted. There's an explosion of replies that come so thick and fast that you can't keep up with trying to read them. (Well, he has got over three hundred thousand followers now.) And, if you reply, before you get to see if it's arrived, your tweet is already at the bottom of the page! It' a bit like a simmering pot that suddenly comes to the boil and spills over!

My Twitter friend in New York actually caught Richard's standup set! Apparently he's being far too modest when he says he was awful as he was pretty funny (she's not just saying that because she's a TG fan - she's a serious comedy fan too, and often crosses the pond for the Edinburgh festival). A lot of material relating to his recent man-part related tribulations that had the blokes in the audience crossing their legs. Can't wait to see it!

James is calling for examples of teenage poetry for Manlab. The more embarrassing the better.
Tragically, I've just had a massive clearout, and all vestiges of teenage angst have been finally chucked (apart from half a bottle of patchouli oil)
In fact, I'll copy this into the Manlab thread.

I'm on as me, Elaine Clarke @maid_of_Astolat. I only am sure of Antonia but it would be nice to recognise others from here.

I'm cunningly disguised on Twitter and have been ploughing a lonely furrow up till now, on the basis that followers are a responsibility. You have to keep them entertained. However, I'm thinking I might invite a few followers to join me. I'm dead boring, though. Keep your expectations low and you won't be disappointed.

I'm dead boring, though. Keep your expectations low and you won't be disappointed. I'm not very interesting myself - and I'm aware that I don't post here very often, so people might not feel they know me that well - but I'm happy to follow and be followed. The more the merrier: @lcherrett

I'm quite boring also and get confused when replying to a tweet with many different other replies. I did have a porn site follow me today which I blocked. I am @barmorris.

I find Twitter to be a bit competitive, to be honest, especially when it comes to James. I try to rise above all the "ME! ME! ME!" stuff (not you, Antonia - he seems to have adopted you, which is nice) but the other day I found myself sending a whiny tweet because he'd ignored something I'd sent earlier. I'm a grown woman, fgs!
It's so easy to get sucked into the melee of people trying to elbow their way to the front. I need to step back from it for a few days, and go back into "read-only" mode.
Nice to see the few of you who have followed me, though
(please imagine an acute accent over the 'e' in melee. I don't know how to do foreign characters on here)

Don't get down, amie8. I've Tweeted James a few time and he has never Tweeted me back. He probably gets so many that he can't read them all, he is followed by over 300, 000 Tweeps.

Yes, I understand that. What I can't understand is my having reacted to it. It's not like me. Like I say - too easy to get carried away!

I've found myself reacting in the same way - and I'm one who's been fortunate enough to have heard back from him. I'm amazed at how quickly it rises up. But I do remind myself about those 300,000 followers, how he's made less than 1000 tweets and two of them were in response to my useless drivel. When I think of those stats, my reactions are put back in their rightful place! I'm still enjoying one aspect of Twitter: being able to communicate directly with James or indeed any other household name. It is something I never thought would be possible. I mean, seriously? It's quite amazing.
