Tis interesting isn't it? I've tweeted him a few things too but never heard back. But like you Amie8, I'm a bit surprised at myself that a). I bothered, and b). I wanted, and indeed almost expected, a reply. Nutcase I am. I'm @ridesandskis if anyones interested, but I don't really tweet, so .......whatevs, lol, CYA etc #I'mSoCool.

If you speak to someone, face to face, you expect a reply and are rightly upset if you don't get one. With James and twitter, obviously things are different and we would be barmy to think that he could reply to even the small percentage of 'reasonable' tweets he gets. But, that expectation is still lurking, and silly as it is, we do get upset when ignored.

Following Pie and Maid of Astolat. It would be nice if you could follow me - you never know, I might one day tweet the actual meaning of life.

Twitter brings out an uncharacteristic competitive feeling in me too (and I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one). But yes, James can't possibly even see all the tweets he gets, let alone respond to many. If I was him, I'd feel a bit overwhelmed by all these people clamouring for attention - he does well, I think, to stay cool and reply just when he feels like it and for his own reasons.

As you know, I'm still a total klutz at this so far, and probably will do far more lurking and reading than actual tweeting, but I'm on @ditgt6.

Oh gawd, I thought I was already following you, amie8! Will rectify.
I'm hoping that Twitter will become an addition to what happens on the JMB. I have no intention of deserting the JMB. Apart from anything else, you may have noticed I tend to need far more than 140 characters to express myself in!

I think its important to remeber that not everyone on here as a twiiter account either by choice or otherwise. So they shouldn't feel they are being left out, lets keep things the board going and keep the James love going on here ;D
Those of you who have digressed to the dark side (joke!) don't forget to follow @jamesmayboard ;D

No no never! As I have expressed above, Twitter is full of frustrations, it's completely public, awash with the abusive, the deceitful and the deluded, and I also struggle to say what I want to say in less than 140 pages, never mind 140 characters. I'm not going anywhere.
On the other hand, thanks for the follows ladies! I feel like a whole Tweeter now.

Don't think I need to stick my name out there.I'm the rambling nutjob with a Twitter addiction. There has to be a recovery system out there some were.12 steps of twitter maybe. 1st step admiting the problem. Well thats step 1 done now I need the other 11 steps to complete and gain my dear friends back.Cause I feel sh*ty.(Pardon my French). Snort, I think you're funny even when I confused myself from my account to the JMB, blimey didn't know where I was

I don't think I'm ever likely to go on Facebook as I've heard so many nightmare stories about problems there, though I also know that a lot of people find it to be marvellous.
I've been watching what goes on on Twitter for ages now just through doing searches, and I never intended to actually join. However, James' comment about never having seen a woman driving a TR6 got to me, and I wanted to tell him that there are women who drive such cars (though of course mine's a GT6). So I succumbed. I'm now confused, I have no idea if any of the messages I'm sending are getting through to anyone (though they are if I reply to a tweet - and yes, I know I'm being thick!) and I can see me getting fed up and going back to just lurking at this rate. However, I shall try to persevere!

One problem I have is after I have gone to a tweeter's profile I end up and the beginning of all the tweets. Does anyone know any other way to avoid looking at them all again?

Post by amie8 on Jul 30, 2012 12:14:43 GMT
Don't think so, Vivienne. It has its flaws. Also, don't hit back arrow and think it'll take you back to where you were. It tends to log you right out of Twitter, so you're really back at the beginning

I got a personal response from Richard about his hay situation. He actually took my advice! OK guys it's not the same as James. I don't know squat about motorcycles except I've ridden on a few like a Norton, Harley, etc.

Yes folks, despite me being totally thick and needing much advice, to my total astonishment I had a reply this afternoon from James. Considering I've only sent him a handful of tweets, and those only in the past few days, I think I've been really lucky. It was to do with his 'thing' about women who wear glasses, and was actually rather sweet.
Thanks to those brave souls on here who have been trying to help me get my head round Twitter. I now know that I've been looking at a slightly differrent page for James, not the one that has the main tweets though similar, which explains why I couldn't find my tweets and therefore thought they weren't going anywhere!
I just have one question left (I hope!) - when I get a tweet through as a text, or send one as a text, that is coming as an ordinary text, isn't it, not through the internet? I haven't got internet access organised for my phone, and the one time I accidentally connected cost me a fortune!
Going to bed with a smile on my face........

Dit a word to the wise.Don't use twitter to much cause it really does get into your head with out you realising. One tweet is never enough and before you know it your there all the time. (Speaking from experiance here)

Thanks for that advice, Antonia! I realised at the (very late!) end of the day yesterday that I'd done little else but either tweet or take advice about tweeting; luckily I'd planned a very quiet day anyway as I'd had a heavy weekend. I hope to just use twitter for quick visits from now on - and I'll try to stick to that!
