I got an email from BBC/Man Lab and a video from James about what he's looking for next...AND THE DARN VIDEO WON'T PLAY! There's James staring at me from behind a message that reads, "Not Available in Your Area". AAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHH! I'm beginning to really hate living in America! I FEEL YOUR PAIN. Course, I'm in WI... Someone nice usually uploads the videos to YouTube for us. Or a lot of them are ending up on Twitter via Twitvid, a site that seems to have a personal vendetta against me for some stupid reason. But someone nice usually uploads the videos to YouTube.

Just go back one page in this thread. They are all there.

There's one more, on inventions. I just got it on Friday. And thanks for pointing me in the video direction, there were a few I didn't see. I know it's called Man Lab (referring to the video of the broken kettle), but I wonder if James is interested in a woman who can replace a broken garbage disposal and dishwasher, and is a fairly decent electrician. I have fix-it stories out the wazzoo.

It's the same living in Norway too.. A lot of videos aren't "available in my area". It's so annoying!

I had a bit of a chat with my pet rock the other day. He told me he's been enjoying working on his version of the Man Lab theme, but then he broke down as he told me he's been having nightmares about it as well. When I asked what was upsetting him, he began to shake. Wide-eyed and fearful, he told me that it keeps morphing into Livin' la Vida Loca. As no further explanation was necessary, I patted his head, gave him a mug of hot cocoa and reassured him that the world would continue to orbit the sun.

I see it as a romantic ballad....I'm working on the words (and the swirling strings).
Pity I'm not a bloke!

Wow, dit, that's cool. I see it as a rock n roll song. Now why would you wanna be a bloke!?

Hmmm....I guess I could come up with an assumed (masculine) name - Clint Powers or Brad Cougar or something. Only problem would be if it all went well and James asked to meet Clint or Brad. I might be a trained actress, but I really don't think I'd be good enough to impersonate a man!
At the moment I'm playing about with putting it into 3/4 time....

This is so much fun. Can't wait to see/hear what people submit. Perhaps we should put forward a JMB album? ;D Sounds like we've got a good variety of musical styles between us ( mine's Steve's is a jazzed-up version).

Well, I've just spent the last 1.5 hours trying to record my song, and it sounds like utter tripe. Technique-wise, I'm so rusty...and now I have a headache too. Can't believe I actually studied this thing. Mind you, my heyday was about 86 years ago so can't really complain. Now to make some sense of the noise I've just polluted my neighbourhood with... *is thinking the electronic version is much better, which is a very bad sign*

I'm still working on it. I'm combining digital with my Strat (thinking about adding some violin too). It takes a while to do this kind of stuff. I do animations, voice-overs and music on the side, and working on James' music has been fun. I just hope I can tie up all the strings and finish it soon.

I feel no guilt at reposting this from the 'Alerts' thread -
Alert - James is on Radio 5 tomorrow (29th March). I think it's at 2pm. Seems to be Phil Williams filling in for Richard Bacon. James is listed as top guest, over Raymond Blanc.
"Phil Williams is in for Richard and is joined by James May to talk about his new series of Man Lab."
Looks like there's a podcast as well.

Ok, here goes...Not 100% happy with it, but it will do. Can't be bothered with any more adding/fixing/re-recording/chopping etc. But I had a blast making it and it does put a smile on my face.

Pie, that is AMAZING!!! (and I don't use capitals lightly!) I really hope that James hears it, likes it and gives you a special mention on Man Lab, despite the fact that you're a girl.
It's got a lovely mood to it, super stuff.

Can't you just see James introducing that item?
"We had a great response to my request for new versions of the 'Man Lab' theme - some were even sent in by *facial tic, confused expression* girls!"

Aww thank you. Yeah I sent it in...just. Took me ages. I nearly didn't do it, but then I thought, a) I would've done it for nothing, which is stupid; and b) Stop being a wimp and do something fun. ;D

Will do! Can't you just see James introducing that item? "We had a great response to my request for new versions of the 'Man Lab' theme - some were even sent in by *facial tic, confused expression* girls!" Well, so far there are only three uploads on Youtube, and two of them are from girls... "Houston, we have a problem." ;D

WOW PIE!!!! Excellent!!!!!! Gawd I loved that!!! So jealous you can play sax. I spent 2 years trying to learn it. I suck. I'm having the same problem with this project, I'm still laying down tracks: Guitar [2], Bass, Drums, and I haven't decided flute or violin [or both].
BRAVO PIE!!! [applause]
