(This thread seems so obvious that I can't believe it's not been created before, but I can't find it - if I'm wrong, mods please move.) Anyone know if James has traded up the Ferrari? There have been quite a few reports over the past few days of him being seen driving a yellow 458, including one (with a photo of said car) which referred to someone being allowed to 'borrow his Ferrari'. Can't say I can see James choosing a yellow car - bit unsubtle - and it could just be a car he's testing for work, but he has rated the 458 very highly in the past. Dunno, but as I mentioned on FG, I remember a tweet when somebody asked him what his favourite colour was for a Ferrari (or maybe just a supercar) and he said yellow.
Anyway, the fact that he's driven it to more than one location suggests it might actually be his. The alternative is that he's driving it for the magazine. They keep them for quite a while when they're doing reviews.
Does anyone know if there's a new model or variant out? That's the only reason I can think of for him to be testing one.

I've actually seen the numberplate and it's a 60, which suggests it isn't a brand new model. If it is his, I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned somewhere, either by him on twitter or elsewhere.

I did yesterday on Twitter, though it was a bit jokey and clearly didn't merit a response. Might have another go next time he's on but spell it out more obviously next time.

I read that he and Richard had both ordered an Evora, although that was some time ago and the cars never seem to have materialized.

I don't begrudge him such a lovely car, as I suppose it's only a step once you're in that area from a F430 to a 458 Italia (which is actually the 430's replacement). It would be odd, when you think of it, if the TG3 didn't have at least one seriously super supercar in the garage when they spend so much of their working lives in and out of the things.
I still don't like yellow, though.

Reading between those lines, I'd say it's definitely his. It is such a distinctive car (yellow!) that he probably wants to retain at least some degree of anonymity while driving it, hence lack of confirmation. Don't fancy his chances though! I'm happy for him......I think!!

I think his chances of retaining his anonymity went out the window when The Ilfracombe Gazette, or whatever it is, printed a front-on picture of it with the registration number on display. Which is how we all know the car's two years old.

The Ferrari 458 is a bit like high-definition television. It’s a phenomenon with which we are completely familiar - a mid-engined Ferrari - but much clearer and brighter. Take the gearbox. Like my old F430, it has paddles behind the wheel, but where my car moves from one gear to the next, this one is simply in one and then instantly in the other. It is, literally,
quantum mechanics, in the sense that the space in between ratios is never actually occupied. ‘It’s a better car than my old F430 in every single way. It’s really bloody annoying’ The engine is more powerful, and the exhaust note is crisper, sharper and better defined. There is a greater sense of immediacy to everything that happens in the 458. The steering on the F430 has never been described as bad, but the steering on this car is simply less fuzzy. The suspension is a bit more accommodating, the brake pedal a bit more positive, and the glove box appears to be slightly bigger. Even the styling seems to have been rendered with slightly sharper edges. rendered in more detail. It’s as if a lens has been wiped clean, or a layer of sponge removed from the ends of your fingers. The world of driving a Ferrari remains familiar, but is now in sharper focus. Obviously, high-def television can come with its own downside, just as most technological advances do. Richard Hammond’s hair or Jeremy Clarkson’s face in greater detail is not something that society ever regretted not having, but this car only benefits from the transformation. There is no penalty that I can detect. It is, in fact, a better car than mine in every single way. It’s really bloody annoying.
