Well, someone has to do it, I guess.
Grey and breezy today on the Lancashire coast. Thank goodness that the forecast is better/warmer for the week ahead, otherwise I'd be thinking it was nearly autumn!

It's warm here today, nearly 80, but fall will be here too soon. The summer has just flown by. I hate the thought of winter ahead.

I forgot it was the beginning of September today, should have guessed from the weather, cold, windy and grey.

Fall?! It's been above 91F/33C for a week. Two tropical storms to the south, Ivo and Juliette, are pushing up the humidity. Nasty. Summer isn't leaving without a fight.

It's still quite warm where I am, and looking to be for at least another wee, so says the long range forecast. *squeeee* I shall be in Cardiff on Wednesday! *pokes Wyvern* Oh yes I shall! I'm that excited, for many reasons. I love Wales, and I haven't been there for years.

My husband and I were watching at a house last week. We decided not to bid on the house beacuse there was much more to do in it than appeared from the information we first got. I'm a bit disappointed but there are other houses...
Started school today and for the first time in a long time not looking forward to go to school.

Aww Melly, your son is entering such a wonderful phase. I hope he absolutely loves school! There were some places in my area that actually had a frost last night. And now it's 64F/18C and brilliant sun! Weather and Mother Nature are truly fickle!

No frost here but in the 30's last night. Today was gorgeous though. I am dreading the end of summer as I know only too well what's coming next. Going for a 2-day drive through the White Mtns this weekend.

You can come anytime. Unfortunately, Tweety has developed a coolant leak, so I'll have to find something else to drive.

Have just returned from our this years mini tour of Britain. We started off with a visit to Loughborough, and then down to Milton Keynes for an overnight stay. Next day was spent at Bletchley Park, the easiest place in the world to spend a full day and not get bored. It was a good day to pick as it was veterans day - the youngest of the veterans is now 88, there were only 45 of them this year, compared with 68 last. For some it was their first return visit since working there. There was an interesting story of a lady, 92, who arrived with her daughter, grand children and great grand children. She was asked where she had worked and she gave the code for the Japenese section, only the high ranking workers knew the actual codes. One of the guides asked her if she spoke Japanese, her retort was 'of course I do,' and she proceded to talk at length in Japanese - which was a jaw dropping moment for the rest of the family, who had no idea of her past importance, or her talents. it was very humbling. After Bletchley we went up to Derbyshire for a few days touring the Peak District and surrounding area. On our way back we called in to see my great uncle Albert, aged 91, still drives, plays golf, wonderful pianist and singer, and a great recounter. We spent a lovely afternoon with him. When it came to us leaving, he asked if we knew our way back to the M1, we were a bit unsure so he offered to show us the short cut - he got in his car and told us to follow him, so we did and were very quickly on the M1. From Derbyshire we headed towards the east Coast, we started in Whitby, then Bridlington and ended up staying with family in Scarborough. We returned home this evening via York. It was a lovely trip and the weather was mostly very good to us.

What a wonderful holiday Eshalda. I'd love to go to Bletchly Park one day, and what an amazing woman! We owe them so much.

Congrats to Melly and DMC. Hope you had wonderful evenings. And Eshalda, what a great trip. I hope to do that someday. Well, shouldn't be too difficult to find an adequate replacement. The leak covered under warranty. I assume? Yes, we drove around the White Mountains for 2 days. For you non-North Americans, these are mountains near the northern end of the Appalachian ridge along the eastern US. They are very craggy, with a bunch of 4000-6000 foot peaks, and include the Presidential Range with mountains named for many US presidents. This is Mount Washington, the top of which was unfortunately lost to low cloud cover the day we were there. This is the highest mountain in the NE US. Mt. Washington again from the other side of the valley the following morning. Generic mountain shot at about 3000 ft along the Kancamagus Highway, which is a twisty mountain road favored by driving enthusiasts. Similar to the Tail of the Dragon for you southern types.

There's something on that map called "Santa's Village"
Is it the real one?

Fizzy, you were only about an hour's drive from where I live! Hope you had a great time in the mountains! The Kancamagus Highway is not for the feint of heart or for the hungry. We took that route coming home from Vermont once. Once you start, you can't get off until the end. There aren't any offshoot roads, just more and more twists and turns! We hadn't eaten all afternoon! Absolutely famished are the best words to describe our predicament. And yes, there is a Santa's Village! As well as Story Land!

Amie, it's not quite to the North Pole. The mountains and lakes are big tourist attractions so there are a lot of tiny theme parks to occupy bored children and deprive their parents of their disposable income.

Last week I drove to through Pennsylvania to Ohio, my Aunt's home. We had tickets to see a trio call Il Volo. Anyone heard of them. They are from Italy and Sicily. The concert was in Pittsburgh. I've been to see her about 4 times from Maryland and go a different way each time. I refuse to drive in a road I have to pay for meaning the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Those little mountains have many twists and turns. I like going through the little towns. Back to Il Volo. My Aunt who is 82 discovered a video of them and she just loves their singing. I'm attaching a song in English. Angel www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5VjkbKNQdM

I know this doesn't belong here but navigating this website is difficult for me. Has anyone heard a whisper of where the Christmas special is to be filmed?

Oddly enough, I've just seen that posted on another board. Must be doing the rounds. Well done to those parents for sticking to their guns - so few seem to have the guts to these days.
My employer's younger daughter fell out with her best mate at school in some random, thirteen year old fashion and - with a week left of the summer holidays - had a hissy fit and refused to go back to school. Now, my mother would've frogmarched me to the bus-stop and booted me onto the school bus and that would've been that, but not my boss. She spent the last two or three weeks frantically rushing around trying to get her daughter into a new school, only to have her fail all the entrance exams. She eventually did find a school which would take her, two weeks after term had started, but what's to say she won't get the whole palaver again at some later stage?

Some parents make a rod for their own back. Kids need to learn to deal with stuff like that. Not run away from it. Viv, haven't heard anything about a Christmas special this year. Maybe not going to happen? Or maybe very tight hush hush security!!!
