This has to be my favourite picture to come out of Barbados so far! Not sure what I'm more drawn to, James' lovely broad shoulders or Jeremy's unbearably cute dimples...

Top Team Toasted Jeremy Clarkson (right) chatting with Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy during the reception. (Gercine Carter) SAT, MAY 17, 2014 - 12:03 AM
Jeremy Clarkson, presenter of the popular BBC programme Top Gear, said last night that staging the Top Gear Festival in Barbados was a given since he had been coming to the island on holiday for 18 years and “this is a country I absolutely adore”. Clarkson and other members of the Top Gear team were guests at a reception hosted by British High Commissioner Victoria Dean at her official residence, Ben Mar, where champion driver Lewis Hamilton made a brief appearance, causing a stir when he arrived. Hamilton has had a string of winning performances on the international racing circuit recently and said he was excited to be in Barbados participating in the Top Gear Festival. www.nationnews.com/articles/view/top-team-toasted/
Crowd Wild Over Hamilton SUN, MAY 18, 2014 - 12:05 AM
Top Gear turned into a top day. Thousands of motorsport fans got exactly what they desired yesterday as they held their breath in anticipation of the day’s events, scheduled to get under way at noon at the spanking new Bushy Park race circuit. That was the time Lewis Hamilton drove his Formula 1 car into their hearts and minds at the St Philip facility. The British driver was given a rousing welcome on the first day of the Top Gear Festival, then left them begging for more after a speed and skills display never before seen in the Caribbean. Driving his impressive teal and silver Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 beast, Hamilton also teamed up with American rally driver Ken Block to send the fans into a frenzy. www.nationnews.com/articles/view/crowd-wild-over-hamilton/ Top Gear to ReturnBY RANDY BENNETT | SUN, MAY 18, 2014 - 12:07 AM Top Gear is here to stay. At least for the next two years. The internationally acclaimed motor festival isn’t just making a one-time stop in Barbados, as it was revealed yesterday the event would also be held next year at the newly renovated Bushy Park. In an interview with the SUNDAY SUN, chairman of Bushy Park Circuit Inc. (BPCI), Mark Maloney, said Barbados was set to reap enormous benefits from the hosting of the world-renowned BBC-branded festival. “We have entered into a three-year contract with Top Gear and the Global Rallycross Championships, so the event is definitely on for 2015 and 2016,” he explained. “I think this opportunity will have a tremendous impact for Barbados. It is beyond belief. The opportunities are endless and they will pay dividends quite soon. “This is the beginning of a long relationship which I think will be beneficial to everyone,” he added. www.nationnews.com/articles/view/top-gear-to-return/

BARBADOS – (May 18, 2014) Scott Speed overcame a mechanical failure to win this weekend’s Red Bull Global Rallycross event at Top Gear Festival Barbados, the first event of the 2014 Red Bull Global Rallycross season. It was the third career victory in the series for Speed, who transferred to the final via heat victory in the debut of the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross program. The event was held at Barbados’ Bushy Park Circuit, the country’s premier motorsports facility, which received an extensive reworking in preparation for the weekend-long event. Other activities with ties to Red Bull GRC included a race between Block, in his rallycross-spec Ford Fiesta ST, and Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton, as well as two-time series champion Tanner Foust drag racing Top Gear host James May in a tractor. www.redbullglobalrallycross.com/news/latestnews/scott-speed-wins-2014-red-bull-global-rallycross-season-opener-at-top-gear-festival-barbados/

High Commissioner Victoria Dean welcoming [from left] Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May
HE Mrs Victoria Dean, British High Commissioner, hosted a glittering reception at her official residence Benmar on Friday 16 May to celebrate the Top Gear Festival which took place in Barbados this weekend. Government ministers and officials, diplomats, local motor enthusiasts and business people mingled with Lewis Hamilton, the recent winner of the Spanish Grand Prix, and the team from the BBC’s Top Gear television programme. The motoring theme was strongly represented, as vintage cars from the Mallalieu collection were show-cased, along with electric cars from Megapower and historic and current Land Rovers from Simpson Motors. Mrs Dean said, “The Top Gear Festival has given the High Commission the opportunity to demonstrate so much of what is good in British motor sport and the powerful impact of the television programmes made in the UK. The Top Gear festival has brought a huge boost to Barbados tourism and created a fantastic buzz on the island.” www.gov.uk/government/world-location-news/british-high-commissioner-victoria-dean-hosts-a-reception-for-top-gear-festival HC Victoria Dean hosts a reception for Top Gear Festival

Top Gear Presenter Declares Moses Mabhida Stadium Best... In The WorldDURBAN - Controversial Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson says Durban’s Moses Mabhida stadium outclasses England’s famous Twickenham stadium. Clarkson and his Top Gear co-presenters James May and Richard Hammond, arrived in Durban on Wednesday, for the two-day Top Gear Festival at Moses Mabhida stadium this weekend. “This is the best stadium in the world, even better than Twickenham,” Clarkson told media yesterday. It’s not the first time Clarkson has spoken about his admiration for Durban and the stadium, where he’s entertained thousands of petrol heads for three years. Last year he tweeted: “God, I love being in Durban” and lauded Moses Mabhida as “the greatest stadium”. Festival organisers have promised that the third and final installment of the event will be a “breathtaking cocktail of stunts, supercars, special guests and challenges”. In one of their most ambitious shows yet, the producers have set the presenters a challenge of creating their own interpretation of electric racing cars. They will also be going head to head in a drifting challenge which will see one of them crowned as the champion. The three motor-mouths will also be celebrating their most chaotic and dangerous moments over the past 12 years by showing a brand new film - a world premiere of this montage. The city has also upgraded the famous street circuit for the festival. Organisers said the new layout has additional benefits which include bringing the motoring action closer to the spectators. Another new feature will be the Time Attack Invitational, where 30 of South Africa’s bravest drivers pit their skills against each other in some of the country’s fastest cars. Bheko Madlala spokesman for KwaZulu-Natal’s department of economic development and tourism said the festival has positioned Durban on the global map. “We are expecting about 70 000 people to attend. The economic spin-offs for the city is going to be phenomenal,” he said. The festival is expected to generate over R100-million. www.enca.com/top-gear-presenter-declares-moses-mabhida-stadium-best-world

Rowly French @rowlandfrench 22 Jun 2014 Hammond looks none too impressed with our predicament. Why? Because we were sat on a sofa attached to a South African taxi. Of course... The taxi was driven by May, and it takes some bottle to stay on that sofa. Helps there is no way to get off either. Waiting for the start of the last show in Durban this weekend. @topgearfestsa And we're off!
