Top Gear's James May in Shaftesbury this ChristmasBy jspiteri | Posted: October 23, 2015 James May will be turning on Shaftesbury's Christmas lights this year. For the past couple of years Shaftesbury and district Chamber of Commerce has worked hard to make the town's Christmas season spectacular. Following on previous runaway successes featuring the historic return of the Hovis lad and the colourful Dame Zandra Rhodes they are confident that this year will be even more spectacular. Friday 4th December. Christmas Spectacular and Late Night ShoppingThis is the time when the local traders give something back to the town. There will be entertainment throughout the evening and craft stalls in the Town Hall as well as the opportunity for local groups and charities to raise funds. After darkness falls there will be a lantern parade at around 6pm by local children. Mother Christmas will be looking for Santa who is due to make a spectacular and surprising entrance before making his way to the grotto at the Town Hall. This year the main tree will be lit up with more spectacular lights than ever before which will be turned on at around 6:30pm by TV celebrity James May, best known for Top Gear. One lucky shopper will also win the £1000 draw Shops will remain open until late with a Dickensian theme and, no doubt lashing of mulled beverages. www.blackmorevale.co.uk/Gear-s-James-Shaftesbury-Christmas/story-28041319-detail/story.html

Christmas in Shaftesbury may be the best yetFormer Top Gear presenter and TV personality James May will turn on the Shaftesbury Christmas lights on December 4.Shaftesbury and District Chamber of Commerce has worked hard to make the town’s Christmas season spectacular. Previous successes include featuring the historic return of the Hovis lad and the colourful Dame Zandra Rhodes. They are confident this year will be even more spectacular. Throughout November, shoppers can collect a stamp from participating retailers. Every five stamps collected will be entered into a draw to win £1,000 worth of goods and vouchers On November 22, more than 60 illuminated Christmas trees will go up on shops and businesses throughout the town. On the following weekend, November 29, is the appearance of the large trees on Angel Square, Gold Hill, and at the top of town by the entrance to Park Walk. On Friday, December 4, the Christmas Spectacular and Late Night Shopping is when the local traders give something back to the town – with entertainment throughout the evening and craft stalls in the Town Hall, as well as the opportunity for local groups and charities to raise funds. After darkness, a lantern parade at 6pm by local children has Mother Christmas looking for Santa who is due to make a spectacular and surprising entrance before making his way to the grotto at the Town Hall. What has he done to himself now?

What has he done to himself now? James injured himself celebrating after the final show of Clarkson Hammond and May Live on Sunday night Jeremy Clarkson and co nursing (self-inflicted) wounds after O2 live show Ex-Top Gear presenters experiencing problems getting to ‘first big shoot’, with James May blaming his arm being in a sling on ‘the drink’
"As Monday hangovers go, it looks like the former Top Gear team of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May are experiencing a particularly acute case following the final show in their live tour at the O2 on Sunday night. As Clarkson tweeted this morning, two of the team are having difficulty making it to their “first big shoot”, presumably for their forthcoming motoring show on Amazon, while a third is on his way but “broken”. But which member of the team is valiantly soldiering on? Word reaches Monkey that May was spotted on Monday morning at London’s St Pancras station with his arm in a sling, mobile but more than a little worse for wear.
Injured in the line of duty entertaining the fans? Not according to the man himself, who when asked how he’d acquired the injury said: “I fell over, it’s the drink.”
Over-celebrating, rather than showmanship, looks set to delay the trio’s next stint in front of the cameras. www.theguardian.com/media/mediamonkeyblog/2015/nov/30/jeremy-clarkson-and-co-nursing-self-inflicted-wounds-after-o2-live-showjamesmayboard.proboards.com/post/299026/thread

Thanks, I must have missed that thread.
Is it me or does he seem a little bit accident prone?

Thanks, I must have missed that thread. Is it me or does he seem a little bit accident prone? Yes he does James sometimes has an air of an absent-minded professor deep in his thoughts, concentrating on the task at hand and oblivious to his surroundings

Lovely to see Sarah with him at a public event.
Did we recognise the driver of James' Roller? Friend or just (I don't mean that disparagingly!) an agency driver? I imagine James would have driven it himself if he hadn't been broken.

I imagine James would have driven it himself if he hadn't been broken. The Roller isn't James', "RR Elite Wedding Cars sponsored the Shaftesbury Christmas lights switch on and provided transport for James and Sarah in the agency's beautiful 1974 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow I" James' is a 1972 Rolls-Royce Corniche, the two cars look to be a similar shade of garnet red James May with his chosen car from our collection to be driven to Shaftesbury to turn on the 2015 Christmas Lights. jamesmayboard.proboards.com/post/299070Iain and James with his 1972 Rolls-Royce Corniche jamesmayboard.proboards.com/post/294925/thread

James May proves a real fan pleaser
7 December 2015 By Karl Plaskett Huge Crowds turned out see former BBC Top Gear presenter James May turn on the Christmas Lights on December 4, for Shaftesbury’s ‘Friday night Late Night Shopping Spectacular’. Businesses opened late for the event, organised by Shaftesbury & District Chamber of Commerce, and stallholders lined the streets while BBC DJ Johnnie Walker MBE provided a running commentary. A procession led by Shaftesbury Town Silver Band, included hundreds of children with lanterns, and Mother Christmas in a sleigh paraded through the High Street to the Town Hall. Santa dropped in, quite literally, abseiling down the church to his grotto to provide the crowds with some extra entertainment, before James May appeared in a chauffeured vintage Rolls Royce, and turned on the lights. Despite his bandaged wrist and arm in a sling, James spent time outside the church signing autographs and also managed to pull the lever to light the Christmas tree! James was ushered through hordes of admiring fans to Gilyard Scarth Estate Agents, where he spent two hours signing more autographs with his left hand! (not his usual hand). He kept fans of all ages entertained, and was heard to say his well renowned phrase ‘oh, cock’ more than quite often – much to his fans’ amusement! At the end of the evening James was still in good spirits although in noticeable discomfort after continuously signing autographs with his left hand for more than two hours. A clearly tired James told Valley News he had broken his wrist on the Sunday evening by undramatically slipping on some leaves on returning from filming for his new show for Amazon Prime due to be aired next September/October. James said: “It’s not as dramatic a story (for the press) as I would have liked it to be: it’s quite boring really. I just slipped on some leaves!” Asked about his thoughts on Shaftesbury and turning the lights on, James said,: “It’s nice – a proper, honest town! I really enjoyed pulling the lever; I’ve never turned on any Christmas lights before.” He found out about the Christmas Light Switch On opportunity while shopping at Shaftesbury Wines, one of the town’s many independent shops. He told them to look out for his new show, and when asked what was different about it, he said he’d had a haircut! www.yourvalleynews.co.uk/frontpage-news/james-may-proves-a-real-fan-pleaser/
