(Before I start, I've searched for a thread under this subject and can't find one, though I know watches have been mentioned from time to time. I thought this thread might pull such comments together. If I have got it wrong, please feel free to merge or delete.) James seems to have a new watch to add to his collection. I have a theory that he has a special stand or cabinet for them all, with a rotating section for those that need to be kept active or they'll stop. He may even have a small room. The latest one is a Rolex Milgauss rolexblog.blogspot.com/2011/08/rolex-coolness-james-may-top-gear-rolex.html

I knew there would be a gadget for that sort of thing out there somewhere!
I have my late husband's Rolex, had the bracelet altered to fit me, but I rarely wear it. Partly because there's a special way of winding it up that I can never remember, but mainly because it's so heavy I feel as if I'm walking with a list to one side!

Aw, I love that you altered his watch. Maybe you can remove the band and carry it like a pocket watch...(too weird?). I know what you mean about the winding. You have to be careful. Back to the jeweler with you for another winding lesson.

Now this one area me and the man do have in common, watches. ;D One can never have too many watches, his Rado, being a fav of mine, as well, (I have one too, and not because he has one, ok, a prezz) love Omega, wonder if he has a Breitling, though I prefer them with a leather strap. Though I reckon a little too racy for him ;D more Hammond. And of course a woman should always wear a man's watch

I have my dad's watch and I would wear it, but too frightened in case I lose it. James does have some fabulous watches. Would this be the equivilent of a female buying shoes?

The Rado is also my fav, I also like this one I have a fair few watches and would love to have more ;D I believe James still has his very first watch from when he was in short trousers ;D I've still got every watch I've ever owned, including my childhood Timex. I was given it when I was five and still wear it occasionally. Today I'm wearing an IWC Portuguese, but I've also got a couple of Rados and the Omega Seamaster with the orange bezel, which is a great-looking watch and very funky. I've also got two old Jaeger-LeCoultres ? a Reverso and a Memovox ? an old Baume et Mercier chronograph, a few pocket watches and a very nice Oris.www.dailymail.co.uk/home/moslive/article-517556/Its-mans-world-James-May.html

The oldies are far better, proper wind up mechanism, bloody price of batteries for an up market watch is criminal and your without it for ages.

I have a few watches too. A dodgy Rolex my mother bought me for my 40th, a Ferrari one, and some others - but the one I wear all the time is my 'special watch'. Its has been everywhere. It has been dropped, run over, drowned and burnt! This watch really does go everywhere with me. This watch cost £9.99. This watch was bought for me by my sons when they were aged just 4 and 6, and they had saved up their own money for it! (They are in their 20's now!) One of the best presents ever!

Much agreed flat, as is my watch given to me by my jamjam, couldn't say grandad, as a wee one, but still even though the old thing doesn't work, still brings back the old memories, and has far more value.

I'm a huge watch collector,I'd sooner have them rather than necklaces and such. I have a few designer types D&G,Guess,Gucci and a DKNY.I think I have about 30 all together 15 of them a bit on the pricey side.My pride and joy is the one my nan gave me with is an silver Rotary she gave me before she died.

I've currently got seven watches with straps in a variety of colours. I buy them for about seven quid and usually chuck them away when the battery runs out.
Not really playing the game, is it?

I'm still wearing my Seiko dive watch I bought when I was 21 (and diving, a bit). I'm now on the, ahem, far side of 50 (just!) and it's going great.

www.dailymail.co.uk/home/moslive/article-517556/Its-mans-world-James-May.html"I've never felt comfortable wearing suits. Evening dress, in particular, makes me excruciatingly uncomfortable and shirts make me fidget. I like sloppy clothes. I recently bought a denim jacket lined with long, different-coloured lambswool. I thought it was great, but my girlfriend said it made me look gay. I still wear it, though."This jacket James? The one I thought looked so groovy and was much reviled by most of the board (with the exception of Dit I believe).

The Rado is also my fav, This is my favorite too ;D I can't wear a watch.... due to skin allergies. I haven't found any type of watch I can wear for more than a few hours without coming out in a horrid itchy rash

There's something snuggly but also cool about it. Just put it down to you and I having excellent taste, adrianmay! Now, which is this watch, with the orange strap? The photo was taken earlier this year.

I just recently bought a Bulova watch for my everyday watch. The band is styled like a bracelet so it is kind of like wearing jewelry. (I love jewelry!) I fell in love with a Movado that came out last year. The face is a typical Movado but then the band is composed of circles and every other one has a diamond. When I was shopping for the watch I have now I saw the Movado on sale for about 50% off. But it was still just over $800. Would have been a great deal for that watch but I just couldn't bring myself to spend that much money on a watch. Plus my husband would have killed me. If I had told him that is. (No - he probably wouldn't have noticed on his own. Even if I wore it every day. He's not that observant.)

Why doesn't James just use his cell phone for the time? Unless he keeps shooting them or something...

I tried to have the battery replaced in my old Timex watch and it ended up smashed to bits! Timex stinks in my experience!
My mom works for LLBean and she has access to the employee store where she scored me a brand spankin' new watch that had never been worn. I favor men's watches as they're bigger and they don't make my wrist look fat!
Some vanity, yes... but it also glows in the dark and I love it! Analog and simple-the simpler the better.
