because I was there (and I was just visible in the final section, though I hadn't intended it I saw you Dit! I wanted to leap off the sofa to point at the TV screen when my brain told me not to be so silly cos my Hubby has no idea who you are and would start asking lots of awkward questions I've given this a 9. Not so many laughs as last week but that's not to say it was a fab episode.... Can't believe it's over already. And Monopoly came up again! Oh and yes I want Chris Evans garage as well ;D

I really do get a bit fed up of the continual carping about whether what's seen on the screen is 100% 'factual'. This article is typical - has no-one noticed that the BBC's own website shows the genre for Top Gear as "Entertainment >Factual > Cars & Motors". That's Entertainment first, as in "made in order to entertain people", not reality, fly-on-the-wall TV. So here is the article and dear me, TG has fooled us all again, what bad men they must be! www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/uk/top-gears-ldriver-jam-was-stunt-for-the-camera-7565025.html(Sorry about getting a bit cross there, but this attitude really gets my goat)

I already suspected, no, EXPECTED that that was a set-up scene, but THAT'S what Top Gear is.

The daily fail ran a very simular article tinyurl.com/7wjbkruIts Top Gear, not a reality show like Dit mentioned. Honestly, give TG a break and gives us fans some credit for realising that a lot of stuff is set up After all I do know that piano's don't really fall from the sky

"Embroiled in a new fakery row.."?
Since when? Are Ofcom involved?
This one seems to be totally of the Fail's own devising

I give it an 8. It was rushed a bit and the segments could have been a bit better but I loved the racing. Didn't like the F1 driver, I could not hear or understand a word he said.

Finally got a moment of peace to sit down and watch the season finale. Loved almost all of it. There was a feeling of genuineness and warmth pervading all throughout the episode, I felt. Having Richard review the M5 was fantastic and is probably one of my favorite series of car out there (and someday in some alternate universe, I will own one), so I loved seeing Richard enthuse about it. I never have been so glued to my computer monitor than during that review. I also found myself taking mental notes while Richard was talking, which I hardly (if ever) do. But James's segment was pure joy. One of my favorite movies ever made was "The Great Escape" and my favorite actor in that movie was James Coburn (Richard Attenborough comes in a very close second). This was one of the movies I grew up with as a child (the 1960's H.G. Wells "The Time Machine" was another major one). It was a mini "melt-me" moment to hear James mention both James Coburn and "The Great Escape" in one breath. Having him drive Coburn's California was even better. Not only that, but to see how pleased James is with driving his dream car and not being disappointed...miracles do happen, if you let them. If only James Coburn were still alive to have him come on Top Gear...I'd probably keel over. The only part I wasn't totally nuts about was the Formula 1 driver interview. I think I just had a hard time hearing him. I did enjoy Slash's interview and guitar rendition of "Jessica'. The Rally-car racing was by far my favorite bit. I do enjoy it when they really try their best to do something and truly are having fun doing it (like Wyvern said). I spent the entire time rooting for all of them, instead of just James. I think I had spooked my normally tranquil cat with all the excited cheering I was making. I gave this a 9, and also found Dit in the crowd, with an excellent angle of James. I missed Wyvern, though.

Ah, now I know where I was, but you'd have to be looking, and you'd only see the top of my head in the crane shots - I was watching the News from the front row but in a vantage point where you could see more than the backs of the boys heads... and in the company of Andy Wilman, who decided I'd chosen the perfect vantage point ;D
So in the crane shots, if you can spot Andy, I'm on his left.

I'm still feeling riled about this 'fakery' nonsense, so I'll have one more roar then shut up.
What no-one seems to have noticed is that, whoever the drivers were in the learner cars, and regardless of whether the shot was set up beforehand, the whole point was that James actually had to negotiate the situation, thus proving (a) how difficult it can be driving such a precious car on the roads. (b) what a good driver he is to hold his nerve and escape the situation without damage to the car, and also (c) have viewers watching through their fingers with delighted trepidation, thus increasing their enjoyment of the programme.
Now, I thought that was the whole point. Have I missed something?
Roar finished. I will now subside on the issue. By the way, thanks for noticing me - I didn't even notice myself in some shots, until nat posted some screencaps!

Once again, sort of repeating something I posted on FG, I think the Mail sit there with pens poised waiting for Top Gear to put a toenail over the line then...ZAP!
This series, though, and call the Pope and declare it a miracle, they haven't offended anyone. Hence the Mail's desperation to find something...anything...to get offended about. Most of the comments under the Fail article are along the lines of "so what?"

The Daily Fail Mail hates Top Gear, especially Jeremy, and uses the most ridiculous of premises (premisi?) to have a pick. I'm glad to see this one has failed to raise any kind of reaction. Seriously, if you dislike a programme so much, then just don't watch it. Leave it for those of us who do like it, and go and knit some socks in your yurt

Ok, I've finally had the chance to watch this episode. I've been avoiding reading anything about the episode so I wouldn't know who 'won' the racing segment until I watched it for myself. I gave this episode a 9. I enjoyed Richard's segment on the M5. Sometimes the car reviews can be a bit boring, but he was genuinely enthused about this car. And he was wearing a very nice white t-shirt. James looked so happy to be driving that California. And I think it suited him. Chris Evans has never been a favorite of mine, but I loved his reaction to James asking if he could have a go. ;D The news was a tad short for my liking, but as Jeremy said, they had a lot to fit into the show. Kimi's interview was a bit stilted, but I liked him. Slash's interview was ok. I've never been a big fan, and he didn't really hold my interest that well. Of course, if I were to see the unedited version of it, I might change my mind. Sounds like it was worth listening to. The rally cross was wonderful! The guys tried really hard and truly enjoyed themselves. I loved the 'blood types' on their cars! ;D Jezza, I'm afraid I have to side with Hammond on the racing incident. This was not F1. This was rally racing. Richard defended his position and beat you fair and square! ;D Oh, and I waved at you, Dit!! ;D ;D I did enjoy Slash's rendition of Jessica at the end. A fitting end to a fabulous series! ;D

Unlike The Telegraph that is Top Gear all the Way (could be that James used to write for them) Also The Times are easy on it (Jezza writes for them) I want a special.... Bring us a summer special boys. Where it's particuarly hot and you need to cool yourself down by stripping off and pouring water over yourselves..... (how come everything I think off turns into filth when Mr May is involved???)

The Mail is a ghastly load of horsepoo. There, I've said it. Missburlo - your comment about them was spot on!
Have just read the 2 articles and now have to say that I have just insulted horsepoo.
I find it unbelievable that in the world we live in with all the terrible (and occasionally wonderful) events, they waste time printing something so unbelievably silly. Of course it was a set up - for goodness sake.
Incidentally, I caught up with my hairdresser regarding the recording of TG she saw and she was of the opinion that much of the presenting was very natural and didn't feel it was scripted that much. She put me off trying to go - sounds like it can be quite hard to get a good view in the studio (and she had a purple wristband).

I agree that the 'feel' of the three working together is very natural and spontaneous. When they are working from a script it's very clear, and that shows in the programme, but it's a very small proportion of what they do. Even in the news they have notes, but there's no sense that it's a word-for-word script they're working from, more reminders of who's introducing which topic next.
As for getting a good view, I'm afraid it's down to a fair bit of fast walking, discreet elbowing and knowing where to stand in the car park while you're waiting to be taken down to the studio. I was taught well by jacqui! If anyone gets tickets and needs advice (from a veteran of two whole recordings!) feel free to PM me!

Are we "out of Blighty" afar or like me, "so far up North you simply cannot afford the petrol" afar?
I should go to London. But something always happens to stop me. Hmmm, I will go and live in the Cross Keys and track James down
that is my mission in life, ha ha

FINALLY got to watch this episode. Something about it just didn't click for me. All the segments were good - in fact, I'd say that's the most balanced my concentration span has ever been over the duration of a whole TG episode - but it just wasn't great. Not sure why. (Now that I think about it, I don't recall laughing. Maybe that's it.) It was great to see James genuinely thrilled about driving the California. I'd crap my pants being responsible for a car like that on the road (and then have a mighty big problem upon returning the car to its owner). I'm not normally into F1 racing, but we had the Grand Prix here today and I happened to catch the end of it. Kimi was interviewed (although I'd heard of him, I'd never seen him before) and his humour was as it was on TG: very dry, blunt and poker-faced. One of the interviewers took a bit of a swipe at him afterwards for having "no personality" and I felt a bit for him. I had no idea Kimi was on this week's TG episode (I had resisted reading this thread until now) and having seen today's interview meant that his TG interview made a lot more sense, and was actually enjoyable to watch.

I'm a "Brit Abroad" living in Qatar ;D I'd like to say the weather is great here but right now it's sand storm season and some days although it is sunny being outside is like standing in a wind tunnel with sand in it!
