Found these hamster care tips in the Hints From Heloise section of a daily newspaper a couple of days ago. I thought we Hammond Lovers would get a good laugh, and possibly find them useful. ;D
As with any pet, a hamster does require some responsibilty. Hamsters need food and water daily, and they need a clean environment, so frequent cage cleaning is a must.
Check out before hand what you will need--cage, exercise wheel, food dishes, care book, and water dispenser. Hamsters love to chew plastic, so buy only metal accessories for their cages.
Hamsters can be quite territorial, so it's best to have only one hamster per cage.
Hamsters are the best escape artists there are! If there is a way out of their cage, they will figure it out.

I wish one of my workmates had seen this a couple of weeks ago. Her hamster, Colin, escaped on the weekend and hasn't been seen since. He chewed all the way through the base of his cage!

That's because he needs his fiber.

If you need to trap a hamster you can place a plastic trash can on its side with the top propped up on a book and put food in the bottom of the can. Hamster gets in. can't get out. Trust me this works. ;D

Have also heard that if you tickle a Hamster under his chin, he will dance for you, bearing in mind you have to first of all find where his chin is. Go too low and you may well be tickling something entirely different. ;D Well, if it's Richard Hamster Hammond I'm tickling, I see no problem with that! ;D
