I hope I'm not doing a bad thing by opening this up. This is my first time doing a new thread. How would it be if everyone would like to share and describe their favourite driving roads? It could be your favourite routes, beautiful scenic routes that you take only as a treat to yourself, or holiday routes you've either driven or taken a bus ride on. If you have pictures of some of the roads that you like, that would be lovely too. I really need to whip out my camera, if this thread gets alot of attention. I'm really interested to see all of your favourite drives and share some of mine with you as well. Thank you for your time.

I'm falling in love with a stretch of the A38 between Totnes and Ivybridge. There's nothing special about it really, but at the right time of day, at the right time of year, it's just so pretty. Hard to believe it's part of the major road in the Westcountry beyond Exeter!

One route I really love is a very narrow road that leaves Brandon and heading to Thetford. Just as you're leaving Brandon, you veer left onto it instead of going on the B1107. It's especially beautiful right now, with all the tree covering. It's such a peaceful road that not many people take, unless they work for the forestry or live in the little neighbourhood back there. There's a nice old church leaving the neighbourhood and the rest of the drive is very peaceful and tree-lined, before you make it back out to the main B1107 towards the Thetford golf course.

the A303 near home and a road that is the main bit to turn off to my road, home. It's beautifully straight and flat.
And an industrial estate my Dad took me to for driving lessons, we also set the alarms for driving in a no go area ;D
Pacific Coast Highway although I wasn't driving, it was fab!
Maureen what a brilliant idea!

My favourite driving route is the one on the way home from my mates in surrey. It's the non M25 way to get home. I don't know what its called, but it's a load of roads, and it's beautiful!

Maybe it's the A22 Vix, that's the road to Hastings.

The road from Skipton to Kirkby Lonsdale and then up to Carlisle on the motorway. One of my favourite routes in the entire world and I have seen many. Theres also a couple of lovely 'passes' in the lakes worthy of training a land/range rover on...

It possibly could be Maibee, I do like that road. If I'm honest, I love driving along the four lane section of the M25..... Give me time, I've only done it twice..... ;D

I'm rubbish with maps too, DD. I had to Google to find out what the name of that road was. I always forget and just call it the main road between Brandon and the second Thetford roundabout on the A11. I'm more of a street sign girl.

My favourite road is the route to Seaton Estate the Caravan Park up in Fife, near Montrose. There is only one road you can take to get to the Caravan park and it's beautiful not only because it has lovely scenery but if your lucky during the night you can see the Northern Lights

I can't remember the number of this road, but it runs east to west through the Peak District, and it formed part of the route I took on my way to Thundersprint in May. It was quite twisty, with wonderful scenery. Even my fairly heavy Jag was able to cope with it! Brilliant! ;D

Alright, I have a list from around the world that I've either driven or been a passenger of.
Mundford Road and all of the narrow offshoot roads that lead to Croxton from it are really beautiful this time of year.
The I-40 through northern Arizona.
The drive along the Orase River that leads to Towada Lake near Towada City, Japan.
The road that goes between A11 and Brandon. The closer you get to Brandon, the more beautiful the canopy of trees is.
The Natchez trace between Vicksburg, MS and Nashville, TN. I love alot of the roads in western Tennessee and Kentucky. They remind me of home (where I am now).
The I-10 and I-15 through the Mohave Desert.
Just as you're entering Los Angeles from Las Vegas on the I-15. The surrounding mountains make me think of where Jeremy drove through Switzerland on the car vs public transport challenges. Gorgeous views.
The drive from the Expo to the Pineapple factory in Nago, Okinawa.
All the way from the Hanama Bay area to the north side of Owahu, Hawaii.
I'd usually ride my bike on this one. Alot of the minor roads in Japan didn't have names, but there was this one narrow one in the rice paddies that went from the back side of my old neighbourhood to the seafront.

Wow Lew, that sounds like some of the mountain roads I drove up and down on in America last month. Some of them were terrifying, especially if I wasn't the one driving. You know where else I love driving? I love the Snowdonia drives so much. The drive through Llangolan, Betws-Y-Coed, and up the mountain to Llaberis as gorgeous and breath-taking as the hiking in those areas. Here are a few linked pictures since I don't trust Photobucket right now with the sizing. Sometimes when you resize pictures there, it still comes out way too big here. i46.photobucket.com/albums/f141/maureenp_1969/DSC00038.jpgi46.photobucket.com/albums/f141/maureenp_1969/DSC00032.jpg

Hooting down the Pyrenees from Andora into France, in a rented Citroen was pretty good. Mind you a rental car is the fastest car you'll ever drive. There are some nice drives around the Sydney area. The Illawarra Escarpment or Mount Jamberama, as it is often referred to by my pals anyway, is pretty good. ;D

The B6255 from Ingleton to Ribblehead viaduct is a great road. Not too busy, and great views. Also, what is locally known as the Coal Road, which goes from Dent, over the top of the Pennines to Garsdale, is brilliant. The Coal Road often gets closed in winter due to dangerous driving conditions..... It's beautiful, but very windy up there!

The B6255 from Ingleton to Ribblehead viaduct is a great road. Not too busy, and great views. I've done that one a few times daisy. It's not far from where I live. It's especially beautiful very early on a bright summer morning

Oh, nice! I love it up there. I try to persuade TOH to go there for holidays nearly every year. Apparently, some long long ago relatives used to live in Ingleton - back in horse and cart days.

Wow didn't know this thread was here - you learn something everyday! ;D Ok I have two one in the uk the other usa. The uk is the good old A27 between brighton and hastings - reminds me of my teenage years and the downs are just lovely on a glorious summer day! The USA is the US1 down to Key West in particular the seven mile bridge - in an open top car I've yet to find somewhere that beats it ;D (however haven't been very far since )

That is beautiful.
There is a coast road that I live on the North Antrim Coast, and I was on a train going to Larne a few years ago, had never been on the train to Larne before (never went again, Larne is so f**king backward it is unbelievable) and the North Antrim coastal route is beautiful, no matter whether you are going along it in the Summer or the Winter, it just looks so gorgeous. I have no personal pics but I will try to locate some.
