I have the feel that we'll be seeing more of Hammond, he needs more ads just to heat the thing, if indeed the Sun have it right ;D Or his better half as you say ly, could do a very nice line in the B&B trade ;D

Well it is the Sun (I'll say it before anyone else does). Like you say, not him at all I would have thought. Reminds me of the place he moved into and out of within 48 hours. I thought he wanted to buy a farm.

It is a touch peculiar... but as you said Lymaze, it's the Sun... we'll have to wait and see for them bookings I'm afraid!

Wildcat, no truer words have I heard I prefer the Redmarley farmouse, if I'm honest. The castle doesn't seem very Hammond-like.

LoL why get the house if it's Hamster free??? No point then is there?
Yes it does strike me as very unHammond-like truth be told!

Don't know Linden, guess we all have different tastes, thank goodness. Not my sort of place and there's the country life and then there's the posh upper crust life and that strikes me more the latter.

Oh God, I would die if I had to live there. I am a city girl. But you have to admit, if you are into the Country Life, have horses and that, it's a great place to raise a family.

Me too, a city girl although if I was going to the country I'd choose something more rambling and a bit easier to live with. Somewhere I could spill my wine and not worry. ;D Mind you, get the builders in Hammond, rip it all out I say so the kids can crayon on the walls.

What we would call here a posh pile, now an old farm house slightly tatty around the edges, so I don't end up fainting if something oily was dragged though the house ;D

You can be fairly sure he won't be allowed to keep motor cycle parts in the bath there ... so he'll still be going round to James' house to play.

I admit I am a touch dissapointed by this move, especially about what he said leaving his current place before and how they missed it. This is not something I'd have Richard down for and I hope it isnt representing a change in our hamster... Last thing we want is all this to go to his head (sorry Dettes, but I have to voice my concern) Please dont let James feel outdone and feel the need to uproot too...

James May buys swish penthouse flat in Knightsbridge. Seen leaving The Ivy with glamour model. Shaves head. James May Board disbands. ;D

Please dont let James feel outdone and feel the need to uproot too... I don't expect he would, he'd have to leave Sarah behind and that would make their already rather eccentric menage a bit tricky to manage. Anyway, Oz says he is an 'urbanite', he's not much of a county lover - too much mud. His house is probably well up into the millions just for being in London. To go anywhere bigger there would require Jeremy's raise!

Please dont let James feel outdone and feel the need to uproot too... James is very, very different to Richard. He does not see the need to 'show off' his wealth in such a way and although he has complained about his house being 'small' in the past, I don't think he will uproot to live in a gaudy castle. And isn't that why we love him?

I like the buildings but not the decor. I'd be compelled to "demodernise" ;D
A lot depends on what the place feels like too, and you can't get that from pictures. If the Hammonds like it, good luck to 'em. If they don't, they'll only move back again!

And isn't that why we love him? Exactly. James did buy that house in Totnes though, about two years ago now. Who knows what that's like! Small, but expensive, most likely if it's properly in Totnes - the town is mostly old terraced cottages. However, there are lots of villages attached to Totnes - my parents live in one - and they are a bit more modern and the properties are a lot more varied, so it's anyone's guess. But I know the area well. There's a place about halfway between Totnes and Paignton (where my sister lives) that is my absolute dream house; it's a smallholding called Rivendell and I can see me blasting around it in a broken Landy Defender one day if I ever win the lottery. I would get rid of the carved wooden mushrooms outside, though! Can't see James going for a place like that, though - it seems a bit excessive for a second property, and it is surrounded by mud!

And we all know how James feels about mud. ;D
You're right, it's probably a town house, that would make more sense for a second home. Don't his parents live in Devon as well? Probably one of the reasons why he bought it, so it would be easier for him to visit them.

James did mention that his parents live in Devon in more than one of his columns, leaving me in fear of running into his mother in a RAV4 whenever dad, or whatever unfortunate driving instructor I have at any given time, takes me on the A38!

Ah but richard was the same. he wanted a simple farm last time we looked with space for his cars. now he has a castle and it follows a hefty pay rise and a bit of a knock following an overpaid advert. Hmm... I love James for how he is now, but people do change and they do surprise you. He wouldnt leave london- but I can see him chosing to buy a pad in chelsea and kensington if he had the cash to splash. his place is TINY and there is no parking. either way woman is up in nottinghill so its not even a leap from his...
