Lately, I've been listening to a lot of stuff that makes me calm and focused, as well as some more mushy stuff, too. My favorite song by my favorite (Canadian) folk singer in the whole world, Stan Rogers: The Lock KeeperI can't listen to it without having something in my eye. And also, JS Bach's Missa Brevis in F major. I have the whole thing on my computer, but here's some of it: Kyrie Eleison | Gloria in excelsis | Domine DeusBaroque music makes me happy like nothing else.

You're very welcome, Jacqui. It's a great song. I can't help wondering if any man will ever love me like that. For now, I can only dream about such happiness.

Well, I am, anyway! Thinking of what could have been, or what could be, if Fate would be a bit kinder to me...

Awww, that's lovely music, xj. John Denver had such a lovely voice. He's one of those people I'm truly sorry is gone now.
Good grief, I'm maudlin tonight.

So am I, but then I suppose I would be under the present circumstances. I reckon this song is a reasonable reflection of my mood at the moment. Good old Rod Stewart. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Azcy9_F0DCE

Violetrose - I'm with you on JS Bach - I'm listening to him a lot at the moment. The Harpschord Concertos are marvellous. Also listening to a lot of piano music - Granados Goyescas and Debussy's Slave Ballade are high on my playlist. www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9lAaB02SxUFunnily enough I have also been re-listening to some 70s and 80s stuff like Sailing by Christopher Cross and On and On by Stephen Bishop www.youtube.com/watch?v=lf5IP8r0gWkBut top of the playlist if Want by Rufus Wainwright. www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcuAUCNJkUc

I adore Debussy, used to play a little of his work when I was in practice many, many moons ago, but couldn't get my hands round it now - the right and left tend to be playing totally different things! Must admit, I didn't know the Slave Ballade, though.

Tonight I've found MTV Classics for the first time - I think I'm in love!
I've just watched Paul Simon's "You can call me Al" for the first time in years - it made me roar with laughter when it first came out and years later, it did the same tonight! I shall keep on watching.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=lH4iU_OCw00Dark Night of the Soul by Danger Mouse featuring (the deceased Mark Linkous). Also features guest vocals by the likes of Wayne coyne, Julian Casablancas, Iggy Pop, Gruff Rhyss, Suzanne Vega, Jason Lyttle. If you don't know who they are, you probably won't like the album. Your mates did a good job Mark. RIP

I thought it would be appropriate to mark the official publication date of James's new book by posting the Moonlight Sonata on here. I've chosen this particular version because it's being played in the same gentle, dreamy style in which James plays it. As a result it's utterly, achingly beautiful, just as it should be. www.youtube.com/watch?v=--1IIe1CGKo
