Maybe this has been posted before, I checked but couldn't find it. Anyhoo. In February 2006 James was guest on the Radio 3 programme "Private Passions" where he talked about his favourite classical music. I had to upload it any way, so thought it better to post the link here as well, as it might be new material for some of you.

Such a coincidence. I had a look the playlist again and noticed that Messiaen's 'Amen de la Création' is on it. I actually went to a recital of that last Monday!
Of course I had to listen what James had to say about it and he actually mentions he thinks it would be great music to use for some of the TopGear filming. I can't say that crossed my mind last Monday, but as always James is probably right.

Am I the only one entranced by the thought of James as an A level pupil being locked in a cupboard by his music teacher so that she could force him to listen to Britten

What a wonderful woman. I have a feeling that if you were to do this nowadays you would be sacked . A shame - it should be compulsory (but then I like Britten).


My music teacher used to lie to get me out of Latin classes. He would say I had essential singing practice. As he had an ongoing feud with the Latin teacher it didn't take much.
