because I have no idea what this is about I don't know if this is the right place to post it THE Illuminations Switch On will be going into Top Gear as Jezzer, Captain Slow and the Hamster face their biggest challenge yet. Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond were today revealed as the international stars who will launch Blackpool's Lights on August 29. The long-running cult TV programme returns to BBC2 this Sunday and as well as live radio coverage of the Switch On, and the expected media interest, the brightest night in Blackpool's calendar will also be recorded to feature in a future Top Gear. Executive producer for Top Gear Andy Wilman said: "The boys are really looking forward to it as one of the things they all enjoy is turning on lights! " But after crossing the English Channel in a Toyota pick-up truck and racing the most powerful road car – a Bugatti Veyron – against the Fylde-built Eurofighter Typhoon, the question that will be asked by fans is: Just how will they switch-on the Illuminations?

Fantastic I know it's just me, but wouldn't it be nice, given that Trevor Wilkinson recently passed away, if they turned up in TVRs? And isn't this sort-of our first spoiler for series 12? ;D

And isn't this sort-of our first spoiler for series 12? ;D Brilliant idea wy ;D However given the TVRs reputation for reliability (or not), the TG3 might not turn up! I used to work just round the corner from the TVR factory and was very jealous of the young lads who were always wizzing around the area on test drives

Hmm, good point... it wouldn't have quite the same impact if they arrived on the back of a big yellow truck ;D

David Tennant turned the lights on last year. I wanted to go but decided it was too far away. But the Top Gear guys? it just doesn't seem quite so far away anymore. I dont know you cant get too much of James I dont think.

If this event had been taking place exactly one week later, then it would have been a fantastic way to spend my birthday! Oh well...

This news prompted much hilarious banter in our house, along the lines of Jeremy's only going for the donkeys, James won't be able to find Blackpool, and may end up in Paris, and Richard will probably pull the switch and plunge the entire north-west into darkness!! ;D

Decided to 'make a night' of this event... the lights aren't being switched on until 9.25, so may make travel back unpleasant? Does anyone know whereabouts in Blackpool the actual event takes place?

Thanks DD, it's just cos this year it's going to be a big Radio 2 event, live music etc, so I assumed it'd be somewhere that would accommodate a large stage etc?? I'm going with my sister, been checking out hotels, but so far I'm swamped with choice, and every time I find a suitable place, I find something wrong with it!!

No, I've looked on Radio 2 site, but nothing listed for the event as yet, saw a bit about last year's, but it was all 'teeny bands' As far as location is concerned, I would just rather book somewhere 'handy' as the last thing I want is to be wandering the streets of Blackpool late at night... I'm getting too old for all that!!lol

Oh wow DD! That's fab, thank you SO much!! Crikey, it's going to be a lot bigger than I thought... room for 18,000 plus extra?? I'd better pack a flask (and maybe a chair, sleeping bag, picnic hamper.... )!!

I clicked on the map link, and found some good ones on there already!... will look at more later... I would imagine it's going to be a popular night for accommodation, so don't want to leave it too late!! Thanks again!! ;D

Thanks DD, I'm used to doing this sort of thing, that's why my sis left it up to me, it's just that the accommodation I'm used to looking for is in small villages in Wales, where you only have about 4 choices! lol, but this is something else!!

I'm a total novice and just click on things to see if they come up "ooo eeerrrr Missus" Having a frustrating time... being thwarted so many times by the '2 night minimum stay' policy!

My sis and I are somewhere near the Winter Gardens, but I don't know what our plans are yet.... I have to admit, this event is a lot bigger than I expected, I was hoping for something a little more 'intimate'?
