That's the biggest load of cr*p I've ever read. Jezzer never mentioned Turkey and, I'm sorry Sparrow Family, if you or anyone else for that matter, are sad and stupid enough to queue up from 5 am, you are not in a position to criticise anyone else you saddos

Sorry, but for once I have to (partly) agree with the whiners. The organization made a big story out of the fact that the boys from Top Gear were going to switch on the lights. A lot of people traveled to Blackpool to see them. They (the organization) let that part of the audience down. The risk of a race is that one or more of the guys were not going to make it in time and they shouldn't have agreed to that. There must have been more families with kids there that will have been hugely disappointed by a) how short it was, b) there didn't seem to be a lot of interaction with the audience and c) that James didn't make it.

The 'organisation' as far as I know, told the general public nothing different to any other year. I'm sure when Red Rum switched the lights on he was on the stage about the same length of time as the TG boys. As for 'children' being in the audience, I would question the wisdom of parents who would take small children out in a crowd of over 20,000 at that time of night Personally, I managed to survive without seeing James.

Im glad everyone had a good time but to be honest I am relieved I didnt go to be frank- I think I'd have been partially disappointed. But then had I been smart enough to get a bit tipsy Id have just shouted dirty things at Jez and had lots of fun anyhew! Meh, I can see both sides of the debate However, I think that article is HARSH.

Who ever switches the lights on aren't there for long this year or any other year and we weren't at all disappointed that James wasn't there it was a good night(was even singing along to Boyzone by the end oh the shame)

Bugger! I can't access the bloody article! Clarkson ruined lights switch on How dare Jeremy Clarkson speak down to the crowd at the illuminations switch on in Blackpool at the weekend. Some people had camped out since 5am to see the Top Gear team turn on the resort's lights. James May didn't turn up, Hamster Hammond needn't have bothered, Stig didn't speak (obviously) and patronising Jeremy Clarkson told Janice Long that he was just back from a holiday in Turkey and he wanted to go home to bed. And that was it. Clarkson completely ruined the lively atmosphere which groups like Boyzone and Scouting for Girls had built up throughout the evening. Get back on the M6 Jeremy and drive home! The Sparrow family, Chorley, via email.

"Clarkson told Janice Long that he was just back from a holiday in Turkey and he wanted to go home to bed" Were they listening?? It was Janice Long who said she was back from Turkey, and commented that she'd read in the papers about the Jeremy for PM campaign!! All Jeremy said was that it had been a long day (after the race)!

To end our little trip, as we pulled off the M6 at junction 35, there were people and cars parked on the motorway bridge, obviously waiting for someone/thing to come down the road. We pulled up and discovered that as a tribute to Colin McRae, a large number of Subarus were driving down to Banbury (I think) where Prodrive is based, to have a meet up and celebrate his life. Well, we couldn't miss that so we sat and waited. sure enough, a large number of Subarus passed by, driving in convoy, lights on, drivers and passengers waving, sounding their horns and revving their engines very loudly. I'll put some (poor) photos up later. It was very touching and I thought, a lovely way to honour a great man. Did you see the piece about this on the "other motoring show"? They were attempting to break the record for the largest convoy of cars from a single manufacturer. Unfortunately, they didn't quite manage it, because somewhere along the line someone took a wrong turning and half of them got lost... but they managed to meet up again to create the world's largest 'car mosaic', where they spelled out Colin McRae's name next to the cross of St Andrew, and then pretty much created the world's largest traffic jam from a single manufacturer And VBH was permitted to take one of his winning cars around the track, which was lovely to see - it would be a shame if it ended up standing around doing nothing. It was really very moving, and I have to admit my face was a bit wet when I was watching it. And I was staggered that the whole thing was apparently arranged by three members of the public with little more than some good contacts and a lot of enthusiasm.

Thanks for that wy. I never watch the 'other motoring show' so missed this I'll keep an eye out for it being repeated though. They went past us in two parts. The first bit of the convoy was only about 20 cars, then a short while after the rest of them went past. Glad they had a good time
