Oh my goodness, the Bentley Brooklands to open the programme. That is a stunning piece of engineering and styling and goes like stink! Well until the tyres burst. This is one of Jeremy’s finest car tests, showing the car off to full effect. The TG crew also did a fantastic job of filming this vast car. Shame the Stig wasn’t able to take it round but the power would have been wasted and the time really wouldn’t have justified the car.
The news brilliant, as usual and more James this week. Thank you TG Gods! And the Dacia Sandero is available for the left hand drive market. I’m enjoying the new car talk and the interaction with the audience.
The SIARPC was brilliant, now a third week into tandem interviewing and it’s working better and Jeremy is getting the hang of it which made the interview flow better. Plus the additional factor of Rob Brydon revisiting the show added another dimension.
The Alfa Challenge: this was stunning. The cars were an interesting choices, the Spider especially. The camaraderie between the 3 of hosts was on a par with the American Adventure, African Adventure and British Leyland cars, when they have been a united front. The Rockingham track day was inspired and the concourse was another stroke of genius. As Jeremy said in any other car it would have been just a journey, but the journey was enhanced, or not, by the individuality of the problems to each of the cars. This made it more interesting. I felt that I willed them on to prove the TG team wrong. These cars had as much soul as Oliver the Opel Kadett. This is the type of challenge which typifies Top Gear, and reflects the human side of motoring and the friendship, which can be strained at times, that Jeremy, James and Richard share.
The Alfa Adventure was in its own way epic not through the length but by its substance.
The voice overs were perfectly judged throughout, as was the camera work byb the crew. I did enjoy the fact James was so fastidious over his car and I couldn’t believe, well I could, that Jeremy and Richard sabotaged it. The music choices were also brilliant. It’s these small choices which make a film brilliant. There are other gems throughout the film which made me LOL.
Overall I didn’t really miss TGSM but the Stig was missed but he wouldn’t have been able to do the Brooklands any justice. I felt the programme was perfectly paced, with the items able to breathe and all the presenters had equal opportunity to wind each other up.
Next weeks programme looks stunning. I can’t wait! ;D
