I predict it will be very, very interesting and it was!
The Fiat 500 Abarth was brilliantly shown off by Jeremy, this little car could be an entertaining drive. It was interesting how the comparison of previous Abarth creations showed they were all quite mad, whereas the modern incarnation wasn't. It was a bouncy, happy and dinky little review which set the tone of the programme. I can understand why James wouldn't like it however he has got the Panda so this may explain it.
The news! James's jacket was a special little number I hope he isn't too attached to it. The quips between the 3 of them and the audience seemed more relaxed this week. Eeyore May ;D and the discussion about car sizes and the how endowed men were. And yes James we have seen his Fiat and it did go in.
This week's exciting addition to the catalogue of road trips was set from San Francisco, CA to Bonneville, Utah where they'd do some speed setting. They had a Cadillac CTS-V, Dodge Challenger and Chevvy Corvette ZR-1. They also couldn't be entertaining, just factual.
If you're American turn away now.
The rumble and burble of these cars was quite extraordinary. The trip across the Golden Gate bridge was stunning. James hated his car, Hammond turned American and Jeremy got very excited, however they remained factual. The relatively uneventful journey to Reno was perfectly showing off these great, big pieces of American engineering. The stop in Lake Tahoe (beautiful place) wasn't entertaining.
James still didn't like his car and ended up staying in a casino being mistaken for an Australian and the reincarnation of John Lennon whilst the other two made merry on the streets.
SIARPC, this finally was back on the money with Will Young. The banter between him and Jeremy was funny and Will, genuinely was a fan of the show and a petrol head. I loved how he got a bit nervous about his result and considered setting up an interior design show with Jeremy. One of the better SIARPC I've seen for a long time.
Part 2 of the road trip, James still hated his car and Jeremy and Richard ran with that knowledge and made the drive boring for him. The loneliest road was stunning, the road seem to go on forever into a vanishing point.
The Cadillac finally made sense to James when the three of them ventured onto the mountain roads and he over took Jeremy! It was a different Captain Slow which was displayed tonight.
Eventually getting to the Salt flats and after Jeremy has taken the Winnebago for a quick test drive, the cars and teams prepared for the speed times. This was the most exciting bit. The tension and anticipation whether they would reach their goal speeds. It left me on the edge of my seat, encouraging them to make it.
Overall, this road trip was filmed beautifully and the pace was just right, as was the music over the top. I didn't know what to expect with this film but it was brilliant.
James was in it more and finally a SIARPC who is a TG fan and petrol head and the muscle cars that seem to actually work (I know the Dodge Challenger was a bit ropey going round corners but it's an American car what do you expect but it makes you smile). I was genuinely delighted by the end of this one and wanted more. That is a good thing
And this road trip film sits very nicely with the Supercar thrash to that bridge in France ;D
EDIT :- I did think James was brilliant in this one. Captain not so Slow
