Penultimate episode of the series, but the last one in the studio until next year.
Looking forward to the Clarity film.
The BTCC was really interesting and Richard always does a clean film which is full of information. I think I quite like the look of it. (I think this was a left over film from the previous series)
The news was brilliant! I loved it from start to finish. You know I did seeing flying pianos at Dunsfold......I'm sure there is another Morris Marina on Ebay somewhere
The Christmas presents were funny - a pork sword.......or an Audi cock hmmm Ebay awaits for those items I really loved the vertical radio controlled cars. The MG clothing was hysterical! Poor Richard falling off into those women, he seemed to enjoy it. It was end of series fever fuelled by Red Bull and chocolate from their teacher.
The film with the Tesla was beautifully shot and what a car. For an electric car is was pretty special. See when the boffins and design teams put their heads together, a rather special car can come from it. The speeds were pretty awesome, the reliability was pretty shaky. I think maybe Jeremy enjoyed the speed but I imagine he missed the feel of a throbbing V8 rubble coming from the engine.
The V8 Rocking chair was ok, funny as a short filler but nothing more.
Ah, now, another oh dear for the PSIARPC (Pluggin' Star in a reasonably priced car) Tom Jones, sadly I was mesmerised by the two colours of hair and pubes he had on his face and the taughtness. Now we know why he has his beard.
It was another plug and it is sad that when a star is doing the rounds they inevitably end up here because there isn't another 'chat' show on cough*Jonathan Woss*cough. I'm hoping there will be less of these guests on the next series. If the guest is a car nut and is plugging something, fair enough. This interview was average, Jeremy did the best he could with what he had.
It was a bit hit and miss having TGSM back, but shame he didn't beat Fifth Gear.
The awards was frankly better and they should have left in the bit with Jay Kay bringing gifts and cut down the PSIARPC. I loved the best noise award and flirting prizes. James's flirting was funny, and hello is usually a welcome start. The car of the year Caterham was a great choice, even if it is super geeky and attracts adenoidal know it alls. Who cares (James) it's the way it makes the driver feel.
The FCX Clarity was a stunning film, James did a wonderful job with explaining how it worked and how he believed it would be used in the future. And how cars with proper combustion engines will continue, but as more of a hobby car. This makes perfect sense and is the best of two worlds. I loved Jay Leno's input (cough future SIARPC cough) and his car collection is rather stunning. James did look like he was in his element, surrounded by as many cars as possible.
Slightly blokey/pervy moment with the girls volleyball, it was ok we had James. I liked it when he coughed to get the camera back to him.
The biggest issue I have is that it is a Honda, well if this is the beginning of the next automotive phase, no doubt more choice will be available with a Hydrogen fuel cell. It is rather genius, since it is like a normal family car just fuelled in a different way.
Overall a mish mash of everything thrown in and shaken about and an ok programme was produced, a little full maybe and the pacing was a bit breathy at times, it was still alright (another conclusion may come after I've seen it again). The films were all fab and the news was lovely.
My conclusion for the overall series (set within the four walls), is that I thoroughly enjoyed it, although had its woeful moments *coughMarkWahlbergcough* but then it had stratispherically fabulous moments like in the American II Road trip at Bonneville, the economy drive to Blackpool and the beautiful Ferrari Daytona 50th Birthday film.
Under the time pressures of the 3 presenters and the extra things (MPH) that they were fitting around to get the show made is a credit to their dedication to it. Although there were a few duff moments, it was still full of many gems.
My favourite complete episode was the 4th one, due to it feeling tidy and a good balance of presenting time - although I suspect the Vietnam Special will be pretty special.
Again the production values of the entire series was remarkably high and you can feel that everyone wants to do their best and more. I continue to be charmed by everything I see and feel when I watch TG. The cars are always a draw, but the three presenters make the show come alive. I look forward to the next series, whenever it arrives. ;D
Thank you to everyone at Top Gear for continuing to make such a fantastic programme and for all it's un-PC moments.
