Is it just me, or does anyone else think there was just a bit too much 'James bashing' on that trip??

One thing about this that I've spotted' is that the DVD is actuallly shorter than the aired episode on the BBC.... anyone else noticed this??

Yes, it is. It's been edited slightly.
However, there is some compensation for this, in that the accompanying Polar Adventure DVD includes some footage not shown on TV. Very good it is, too! ;D

Well, it's more than just "slightly" edited. First of all, because of copyright reasons, the music had to be changed. I can understand that. But more importantly, there are parts missing: Jezza's rant about America, him forgetting to put petrol in his car. the guy's buying their cars presents and them getting caught in the rainstorm. Basically, this is is the edited BBC Prime edition. I really don't understand why they put this on DVD whereas with the polar expedition they put in extras. I did buy it, but I feel a but ripped off really.

Series 9 Episode 3 Where was this part done? It looks like Miami. Definitely in Florida, by the looks of the clouds and something about the light.

Watching this on BBC3 and it reminds me exactly what we have lost in that butchered version they sold us in the double DVD. Including the smile Jezza gives when he's in his car. Great to see it in full again. For nothing.

I need to search the web and find some of the unedited parts of this as I'm sure that BBCA edited it heavily! Probably one of my favorite episode (this coming from a southern American with family in Alabama).

It was brilliant to see it in full again. Have to say it is one of their best. My heart rate still goes up where they're being chased. It could have ended in more than tears. And Jezza - when he smiles - lost that image forever now. James looks amazing in the sun too - he really is designed for a warmer climate.

I must admit that the chase reminded my huband and me of some uncomfortable times in similar areas. We once stopped at a restaurant and after looking around noticed that the owners appeared to be some sort of neo-Nazis. Propaganda on the wall etc. We left unfed. Just in case some of you thought that entire bit was staged!

Try growing up in a place like that. That's one of the reasons I felt misplaced at birth the whole time I was a kid and that I've spent most of my adult life overseas and anywhere but the deep south if I could help it. It's scary.

My family there is a cousin and aunt by marriage. My aunt is Korean and even though they live near a military base and interracial children aren't unusual, my cousin has had lots of run ins with rednecks. I tried to get him to move here after his dad died last year. We have a fairly large Asian community and the ones I know say they get along well with little problems.

You know what was the really heart breaking part of this show for me was seeing the devastation in New Orleans. That's a big part of my childhood gone. I didn't see Riverridge where my grandparents used to live, but I recognized alot of the areas they drove through. The first time I saw it, I was heartbroken. I've always loved New Orleans. Thankfully my grandparents live in Lafayette where I grew up, so they didn't get as badly affected, but still. I was really sad when I saw that part. I'm just wondering how bad Slidell got hit, since I lived there for three years when I was a teen ager. I'm really glad they didn't show that town. I didn't want to see if my old house and my high school got demolished. I'm just glad TG escaped that horrible gas station in Alabama. Those people were barbarians.

I loved this road trip i was never sure if the chased was real or not i thought the stereo type of people from Alabama was just something you saw on tv but after reading this thread i guess not. Does anyone remember when it was shown on tv at the end they said someone threated to sue them was that a joke?

Does anyone remember when it was shown on tv at the end they said someone threated to sue them was that a joke? Jezza mentioned it at the end. He claimed that the charity they had given the cars to threatened to sue them because Jezza's car was a few years older than they had said it was. I think it's a joke, even for America it sounds a bit far-fetched.
