Well, since you are all posting pics of your dogs (and lovely they are too) I thought I might put up some pics of the chaps. Meet Vim & Brillo, Puss's pusses. ;D Note that they are very at home on my, sorry, their bed from where they are kept busy plotting their latest heroic deed or calculating the next prime. Wow, love those green eyes. I guess that one is Brillo? Love the name

I'm glad it's not just me - my old cat was called Harpic! He's the black one, not the green one!

Another great column. I, too, am in total agreement. My favourite part: 'Why is this noisome instrument of the eternally tiresome even offered?' Why can't all journalists use the English language as beautifully as James does?

James does have such an eloquent way with words. He could make even the most mundane of subjects seem interesting. ;D

It's true. That's why I love reading his work so much - his use of language. Every so often, a little linguistic gem will appear in the text, like a glint of gold in a prospector's pan, and I just love it when that happens.... Maybe we should have a thread where we can post our favourite quotes from James's writing. I've got loads of favourites!!! ;D

Sadly yes, I lost him 3 years ago. That photo was taken just a couple of months before. I called him Harpic because when I first had him as a 6 week old kitten he went and hid behind the toilet for several hours! I now have Summer & Lightning (mother & son). Summer's the "Felix" one. She's 2 1/2 now & Lightning is 15 months.

Oh I find that so annoying.... I post comments for weeks in the Telegraph, can't be bothered anymore and then Mr May himself posts in his comments section...not once but twice...tis very funny though...silly Marianne... ;D As if any of us would require any sort of cutlery or instrument to do that....

Quite right, too! Call me old fashioned if you like, but I fail to see the need for a long sthingy (or even a short sthingy!) when I already have a fully functioning tongue at my command....! ;D

Just read it - really funny! ;D I know what he means, as I have a similar problem. But for a little extra storage space, I could put my stuff exactly where I want it, instead of having to put it somewhere else, so that other stuff is displaced, thus rendering my small bedsit the complete bombsite that it currently is!
