Trust in me to cool things down, ladies. When I think of shared shower blocks, my mind stays firmly on those horrible cubicles with nowhere to put your stuff so you have to plan with military precision and have it all in a carrier (you wouldn't want to put your towels, robe or a nice washbag down anywhere, would you?) and the floors are so dirty you have to shower in flipflops. And the plug hole ... just don't go there. Enough to put anyone off any smutty thoughts!

I have and seen the toilet block of hell, but I'd have to say James and Oz in a tin box, perish the though of those two.
Sorry still having pure filth thoughts, off to my sun lounger in the shade.

You're right, DD, I'm thinking of old fashioned places that I've experienced either as a child and then later, both as a young and more mature adult, student accommodation in France. I don't mind slumming it a bit within reason so I can spend my pennies on other things. I definitely felt less comfortable in the more swish places I've stayed (on business trips with X2B). I'm a down to earth girl at heart!

Done it all......mud to chandeliers, a bit of rough hurts no one I can agree with that! A bit of rough is always fun. Umm, or am I thinking of a different kind of rough? See what I'm like after working all night? ;D

my mom got me the newspaper today for me because I was just to tired to get it myself. I told her what newspaper it was and where to get it. So she called me and told me that it was easy. It turns out that James was on the front page.

;D That is so funny. "This is CNN Breaking News! James May of Top Gear has bought a caravan. Now back to the Obama speech in Berlin" you are right lindenchase ;D but my mom wants them to do that every week. If I would ask her again to get it for me she doesn't have to search for long.

After unpacking and starting laundry, I finally got to read and post to this week's article. I loved it. I really hope he enjoys his trip. It sounds like his way of celebrating being finished with filming Top Gear for the time being (I'm guessing). It made me think of camping holidays with my parents when I was a teen ager in our 1960s Ford camper van. That thing was bloody slow and uncomfortable, but gave me good memories as well. I enjoyed the trips themselves, but not using it as a dwelling so much. I really hope he enjoys himself and gets to see some nice areas of Britain. I've read some of your comments about why he might be going, so anything is possible. Thanks.

I once stayed on a campsite at the foot of Glastonbury Tor. I was young, foolish and desperate to have a bit of privacy with my then-boyfriend (though how much privacy one can really be said to have when several hundred bikers of the scary, hairy variety suddenly pour into the campsite is debatable) - and he was far more of a clean queen than I am. Anyway, the showers on the site were coin operated. I soon discovered that 10p was just precisely the right amount of money to be able to start showering and lather up a headful of shampoo, but not enough to rinse it out again. Trying to grab another 10p and find the slot in the shower unit with my eyes full of soap is not an experience I'm in any hurry to repeat

I've never been a big fan of excessive roughing it . (no comment CVG!)but I have stayed in one of those ancient caravans with portapotty. Not pleasant. And the odor is suffocating, but no worse thatn on a long bus trip which I've also done and enjoyed more! I've also stayed at a summer camp with open showers, no cubicles so that my modest teenage self kept her undies on during showers. On the other hand, the place I just returned from didn't sit well with me either. The room was nice, not too ornate, actually very plain but the area was far too uppity for my country girl sensibilities . All of the buildings looked the same, no signs, no colors, even McDonald's had a beige sign with brown arches Glad to be home!

I'm not sure that the brown arches would have caught the imagination of the global ad-men in quite the same way...

I'm not sure that the brown arches would have caught the imagination of the global ad-men in quite the same way... Try narrow minded instead of global minded All of the signs were beige and brown and in the same font so KFC and McDonald's look the same All of the buildings were beige and behind trees so you had no idea what was there. Ugh!

I've never been a big fan of excessive roughing it . (no comment CVG!)! I'm trying so very umm, hard, to be a good girl and NOT say what I am thinking. You lot should be proud of me! I never dreamed I had so mmuch restraint, so to speak. I may bust something internally soon from holding it in.

Ugh! Eek Adco, was that Sanford of Stepford? Maybe that's why the dress code was 'casual attractive' - surprised you had a choice of colours! I'm trying so very umm, hard, to be a good girl and NOT say what I am thinking. You lot should be proud of me! I never dreamed I had so mmuch restraint, so to speak. I may bust something internally soon from holding it in. Oh I am, CVG, I am so very proud of you!!! However, I'm sure you'll find a way of letting it out, so to speak but in a creative way that we can all share - either in Lonely Boy or Hunted! ;D

Lucky to be able to do both, cos I'm also heading for the riches to rags in relative terms when X2B and I finally undo the deed! Must hurt if you've never slummed and suddenly have to! ;D

See South Dakota is influencing the Virginia/Kentucky borders in their way of answering members' posts - nice and clear that way! I'm sorry, I thought the place was actually called Sanford because I'd seen you use that, and that the Stepford wives came from, well, Stepford. But that is probably down to total ignorance on my part !
