Me again, I'm afraid, but I keep finding this stuff.... A touch of cramp? (Shows a bit of the bike, but so little that I don't think it'll count as a spoiler)

My only reservation with the Toy Stories specials is that they're no longer community projects, so the show tends to focus less on the build and more on the flight/ride etc. The builds used to be the most fun part.
Still, it's a tiny niggle. They are still some of the most entertaining programmes on the TV.

"There was a certain amount of flexibility and a couple of minor problems with bearings, steering, comfort, electricity and the passenger, but apart from that it was a very smooth run and very heroic I think.
He added: "It is lovely to be here on the Isle of Man and everyone has been extremely helpful, encouraging, hospitable and kind. We will be back."
LOL! Poor Oz, he gets the blame for everything!

James May's Toy Stories: Balsa Wood Glider/Great Train Race [DVD] (Format: PAL Region: Region 2) will be released in the UK November 4, 2013 www.amazon.co.uk/James-Mays-Toy-Stories-Glider/dp/B00CJFTX16/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=EPI4SS1X3XVL&coliid=I2728Y5FCRUAD1Looks like James May's Toy Stories Special: Flight Club on DVD (Region 4) has been available in Australia since March 6, 2013 and in New Zealand since April 11, 2013 www.mightyape.co.nz/product/DVD/James-Mays-Toy-Stories-Special-Flight-Club/21200697/A world first, a lifelong ambition, aeronautical engineers, fanatical hobbyists - is this the most amazing Toy Story ever seen? James May’s Toy Stories returns for a brand new special. This time, James will attempt to fulfil a lifelong ambition - to design, build and fly an unmanned toy glider 20 miles over the ocean. It will be a world first in toy glider history and could prove to be the most difficult Toy Story challenge to date. James enlists the help of aeronautical engineers, some fanatical hobbyists and some very keen students in order to create the most amazing Toy Story you have ever seen. The glider will not be a sleek off the shelf hi-tech model. It will be built from scratch using the painstaking methods adopted by a million children over the years. The beauty of this plane is that it will resemble the classic toy sitting on the top of toy cupboards around the globe. As in all the Toy Stories films, there is absolutely no guarantee of success. Once launched from a hot air balloon at 5,000 ft, the glider will be on its own. This ambitious attempt will provide a dramatic yet beautiful finale, all in honour of the millions of balsa wood planes that inspired a generation of children. shop.abc.net.au/products/james-mays-toy-stories-dvd*note to self, time to buy a multi-region DVD player*

Finally, we get some more information about the Meccano bike and sidecar TT 'race', though there's no transmission date attached. Christmas? It seems to imply that Channel 4 will be showing the programme, though this seems unlikely, given James' track record with the BBC. Btw, the promo shows quite a lot of detail, so don't watch it if you want everything to be a surprise. www.hattrick.co.uk/hattrick-international/int_shows/show-detail/index.php?a=1&show_id=208

May Bids to Build Meccano Motorbike Tue, Nov 26, 2013Top Gear star James May must be getting Meccano for Christmas because he is using the classic toy to build a motorbike and sidecar to race the Isle of Man TT circuit for a new show. The episode of his Toy Stories series, called The Motorcycle Diaries, sees James get to grips with a construction kit to try to build a vehicle capable of carrying him and co-star Oz Clarke around the 37-mile course. The pair, who have previously teamed up on a series of shows about wine, used 15,000 pieces of Meccano during the show, which will be on BBC Two this Christmas....and James's Top Gear co-star Jeremy Clarkson presents a documentary about the Arctic convoy ships which delivered supplies to the Soviet Union during the Second World War. uk.tv.yahoo.com/may-bids-build-meccano-motorbike-001415431.htmlChristmas 2013 on the BBC Date: 25.11.2013Last updated: 29.11.2013 at 15.06 James May, in a motorbike and side car made of Meccano, takes on his own 37 mile race around the Isle of Man in James May’s Toy Stories: Motorcycle Diary, whilst Jeremy Clarkson tells the tale of the Arctic Convoys of the Second World War, with first-hand accounts from the men who served on these convoys, and who trod treacherous paths to deliver vital war supplies via the Arctic to the Soviet Union. www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/mediapacks/xmas13/Christmas on the BBC A selection of festive treats across the BBC this Christmas BBC Two Programme Information

James May and Oz Clarke (Credit: BBC/Plum Pictures/Andi Howland) In tonight’s high octane Toy Stories Special, James puts an iconic toy to the most ambitious test ever attempted. The challenge: to build a motorbike and side car entirely out of Meccano to take on the Isle of Man’s legendary TT circuit. But designing a machine capable of carrying James and his passenger, wine expert Oz Clarke, around the daunting 37 mile course is not a task for the faint-hearted. A mind-bending 15,000 pieces of Meccano must be assembled to create a full-size, road-legal motorcycle that James hopes will be more than a match for the treacherous twists and turns, steep climbs and dizzying descents of the world’s toughest race circuit. And if that isn’t hard enough, as in the real TT, the bike must race against the clock. It’s the ultimate test of man and machine. The challenge pushes this 100-year-old toy and its riders to the absolute limits. Breakdowns, crashes and unforgiving terrain vie with design genius, good humour and sheer grit to produce a nail-biting film which brings Meccano roaring back into the 21st century to inspire the inner child within us all. I enjoyed the motorbike saga very much indeed, and was glad of the success. It's a pity Oz couldn't be taken the whole way, but I bet he enjoyed himself nonetheless with the booze, the bread the kippers etc.

I watched both Toy Stories and QP17 last night. I had my son and family here at the hotel thinking my 10 yr old grandson would be interested he wasn't. They do something on their phones called Clash of Clans. My son was very interested as he had an erector set as a child. I thought Oz was the comic relief because you know he is going to sniff out alcohol wherever he can. James and his crew are brilliant. I was also happy he made it to the finish.
Jeremy's show was great as well. He reminds us of what had to be endured previously without all our new fangled technology.

Hehe, I watched this last night. OH and I have decided to go to the IOM this year *nod* not least because OH actually has a family member who died there while riding in the TT many years ago.

Just caught up with this on iPlayer. I've recorded it at home, but I'm not currently at home so haven't watched it on a proper TV yet. It was typically warm hearted, good natured stuff and much more fun than the glider saga, which I found a little boring. Oz is always good value, and there was more of a balance between the build and the event this time. Liked the Bear Grylls joke too. You can't take the piss out of Bear Grylls too much.
