I wish I could sign up, but I can't upload or download big things like that. That is why I offer to share DVDs and whatnot with people.

I have a dongle, mobile broadband. When I can get, in my area, broadband for home without having to have a house phone, then I will sign up. Virgin do fibre optic stuff but it isn't available in my area yet and I can't see it being so any time soon.

Someone on Twitter said he was there four days ago... oh why didn't I know this yesterday? Well, James will probably be around quite a lot in the next few weeks. You better start checking Twitter on a regular basis. After all, as I mentioned earlier, you are now this board's Senior Bridge Correspondent! ;D Oi!... less of the Senior! ;D Seen no more on Twitter, I may take a stroll to the Dock tomorrow, if I see the bridge, will get some pics!

After all, as I mentioned earlier, you are now this board's Senior Bridge Correspondent! ;D Oi!... less of the Senior! ;D ;D Have you ever watchted The Daily Show? It's my all time favourite programme. They have loads of senior [insert any possible noun] correspondents on. I don't expect you'll be able to see anything tommorrow. It said it was going to build over "the next few weeks". Perhaps you can ask a local if (s)he heard anything about it. (And whether or not you can install a webcam at his/her place. ;D)

I think maybe she meant Senior and in the main person, the one in charge, not Senior as in old. That is where the old This Morning show was made isn't it?

Yep, it's quite a nice area to visit, and I've no commitments tomorrow, so I'll go for a look round (weather permitting)... sadly, I can't see any of the 'locals' agreeing to the webcam idea, the average Albert Dock resident wouldn't speak to a 'commoner'!

If there is such a thing in Liverpool? It's basically re-developed warehouses, turned into yuppy apartments, designer shops, and over-priced wine bars!

www.propertyindex.com/RS1874893 I think it's a great way to redevelop former industrial areas of cities. I especially like it when they try to maintain some of the old buildings, instead of just knocking them down and replacing them with horrible new buildings. This is just from where I live. Warehouses from the 19th century that were about to be knocked down in the mid-eighties and then made into houses. It is actually mainly council flats!

Wow! How do I sign up for that one? www.thebox.bzIt's a torrent site. They might have a waiting list for new members though. And a warning beforehand: they are very strict about ratios. if you don't upload as much as you download, you get kicked out. That's what I meant with "Free". It means that downloading doesn't affect your ratio. You don't necessarily have to upload though. I don't really have the capacity to upload but if you seed your downloads for a long time it keeps your ratio high. I usually seed for at least a few hours after I download something.

Whoa!... That's lovely! Just like where I live! Have to agree I'm completely onside with this type of redevelopment, much better than knocking down and replacing.

I read the wikipedia entry on Meccano and it's quite obvious why they choose Liverpool for this project. Frank Hornby, the inventor, was from there as was the first factory. You are never too old to learn. ;D

Its nice that they left some as council flats often when they redevelop a area all the people like me who have to do the work can no longer afford to live there. I all ways wonder where they put all the people when they turn a tower block in to luxury apartments.

Well, your Senior Corresponent/roving reporter is back sore-footed from her tour of Liverpool... sad to say, I checked out all rumoured/known areas, and nowt. He was in Liverpool yesterday at the Scalextric Road Show in the shopping centre but, despite it being on for two days, he didn't attend today. I then went and checked out the Albert Dock thoroughly, and no sign of the meccano bridge either!

Thanks for the info Liz.

They probably start building/filming after Chelsea.

Was quite a treck!... puzzled about the bridge, the Dock is a big place, but I managed to get round most of it and didn't see anything, unless it's indoors?

According to sources, James's visit to Liverpool was primarily connected to Meccano. He's been a busy man, because he was at Chelsea until lunch time yesterday! This bit's just speculation, but I would imagine the bridge is being built off-site, at least in sections, for final assembly on-site. If it's anything like the Airfix episode, they won't necessarily be using standard kit, either, but it is feasible, and not something you'd do the early stages of on-site.
As for James getting a day off today, not a chance! He'll be busy in Chelsea until he meets Her Maj on Monday afternoon, I suspect!

Oops, that's a bit big. Oficially, The Albert Dock is the rectangle of water in between those old warehouses. But my guess is that they are going to build the bridge over the water just above that. (Salthouse Dock according to Google Maps) They wouldn't be in anyone's way and it looks the right size. Ambitious, but not over ambitious.

Maybe they can do it on that piece right in the middle between those red buildings.

Only problem is the Salthouse gets a lot of traffic from the Liverpool Duck, unless they halt the sailings during construction, or construct at night!

Maybe they can do it on that piece right in the middle between those red buildings. That's well over 100 meter/328 feet, rather a lot if you ask me. I remember reading somewhere the bridge is going to be 35 feet, so it will probably be across one of the smaller water areas.
