Ive just been reading the blurb in the Radio Times about 'James Mays Great Train Race,' It sounds great fun, one of James' trains is a prototype running on a hydrogen fuel cell, and one of the german trains is powered by sauerkraut. Also in the Radio Times is a small article entitled 'Thomasina refries Top Gear.' It's all about the Mexican food row. Thomasina 'challenges Jeremy and co. to swap steering wheels for chopping boards,' I somehow think they will not take up this challenge (although I'm sure James would be game for a bit of chopping,) I think the woman is just wanting a bit of publicity for her programme

The Telegraph preview finishes up with
Various model trains and propulsion technologies are tried out. Some work, some explode, but the crowd seems to lap it up regardless. Make no bones about it, this is toy-loving blokes having a good time – and it makes ideal Sunday viewing.
Careful James, you're definitely in danger of reaching National Treasure status!

Well yes, you're probably right. The present generation's Michael Palin, or Stephen Fry's prettier younger brother!

I have been saying that for ages! Think Mini (car, not skirt). People say what a wonderful little car the original one was, but compare it to the new one, and the old one is justplain nasty! Rose tinted glasses and all that! It was a cr of its time - and that time has gone!

This has come up on twitter Download my interview with James May for 99p fb.me/12y1HqoEoIt's from the Sunday Express TV editor and even the sample is rather sweet. Might well be worth 99p, even if it is audio only. Can anyone tell me how this payment thing/MP3 works? I'm a bit of a dinasour about downloading. Do you just use your credit card, and is it generally safe?

Once you have paid, you get the download link send by e-mail. Alternatively, you could simply use this upload: www.sendspace.com/file/1j7k5d ;D

For those of you without access to BBC2, here is a very interesting website, you might want to try tonight when The Great Train Race is on tonight. www.filmon.comIt let's you watch dozens of mainly British tv channels. After a while, the streaming gets interrupted and you will have to sign up and pay. I haven't yet figured out when that is, after a certain aamount of log-ins or after a specific period, but hopefully, you will be able to watch the entire programme for free.

I would try to watch it live, but at 5am on a public holiday, as if I'm gonna wake up, even for that. ;D Any chance someone can record/upload it?

The look on James' face towards the end, as he waited......talk about complex emotions. He clearly was having difficulty holding it together. I wasn't breathing - I don't mean in a "fan-girly" way, just with the tension of the thing.

What a lovely show.
I love the chemistry between Oz & James, hopefully there will be new projects soon.
The people over at Hornby must be very happy, as no doubt sales of train sets will soar once again.
In case you didn't listen to the interview James gave to the Sunday express guy (posted earlier): there will be a dvd with extra footage, so keep an eye on Amazon!

An excellent piece of televison from our "National Treasure" and his team (I really do have a soft spot for Simmy ) congratulations! The emotion was clearly tangible in the last five minutes or so; you could almost be there with him willing the little engine with realisitc chuffing noise home and sharing the exilleration as it appeared round the bend (the engine not Oz) ;D Brilliant work James, I am so pleased your little engine with realisitc chuffing noise made it to the end and yes i did fill up a little bit Don't tell me you had dust in your eye James!!!!

Well done, James. It takes some courage to invest so much emotion in something, and on national TV, too. I'm proud of the boy!

I'm thinking the little engine with the realistic chuffing noise now has a special place upon the mantle in the May household

Another thing I loved was the .... gentleness of it. The sense of innocence, of childhood. All the people along the way - yes, some of them would have been there to see "that bloke off the telly", but so many clearly wanted to will the little trains on, for James. And all the men (and a few women!) in both teams who worked so hard to make it happen - lovely!

(Spotted Mr and Mrs May at Fremington at one point, cheering their lad along).

What a lovely programme. Brought a tear to my eye when the chuffing noised train made it to the end. And Thomas the Tank Engine. Well done though on both sides and for making a brilliant programme. Should most definitely be an award winning programme next year.

What a fantastic programme, I love the relationship between James and Oz. One thing made me a little sad , my Flying Scotsman doesn't have realistic chuffing sounds. James must have had a 'special edition' engine.

Thanks, Lindenchase, but this shows how thick I am about some aspects of the internet: I've downloaded - I get a message saying 'A download was completed. Please check your download location or retry.' Where the hell is my download location? I've tried my libraries and can't find it. It didn't give me chance to say where to put it before downloading. I'm working in Internet Explorer 9, by the way. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! By the way, twitter is awash with appreciative comments about the programme. Good to see James' work supported in that way. (Spotted Mr and Mrs May at Fremington at one point, cheering their lad along). Oh, I didn't see that! I'll look out for that when I rewatch it - so typical of what we know of James.

What a fantastic programme! ;D It was such a joy to see the Flying Scotsman (with realistic chuffing sound) arrive at the finish line. All credit to everyone involved.

Just lovely. I'm sure I can't be the only person from the original Toy Stories mob who felt like there was unfinished business with the train thing, even though I wasn't involved with that part of the series. Seeing the Flying Scotsman finally complete the journey was like seeing the last piece of a puzzle falling into place. Job done - well done, Mr May, Mr Clarke, Mr Oakley and the brave adversaries from Germany, not to mention the myriad helpers on both sides who would have made it all possible. I admit I might have had a little tear or two
