A whole host of stars names have been announced for the Edinburgh International Television Festival including infamous blogger Perez Hilton, The Wire creator David Simon and Britain’s Got Talent stars Ant And Dec.
The 34th festival was launched today and runs from August 28 - 30. The Wire creator David Simon, notorious showbiz gossip Perez Hilton, the Top Gear team and actor Ross Kemp are confirmed to give masterclasses in their particular areas of expertise.
Hilton, always adept at causing controversy, hit headlines last month when he asked Miss California's Carrie Prejean her thoughts on legalising gay marriage during the Miss USA pageant.
David Simon, who works as a producer, journalist and author, will explain how his early career as a crime reporter for the Baltimore Sun has influenced his television work, including The Wire. Dominic West, who starred as cop Jimmy McNulty in the critically acclaimed drama and recently appeared in The Devil’s Whore, will also be a guest.
Media mogul James Murdoch will give the MacTaggart Lecture, the BBC’s business editor Robert Peston will give the Richard Dunn Memorial Lecture, and Peter Fincham, director of television for ITV, will interview Ofcom’s Ed Richards.
Britain’s Got Talent hosts Ant and Dec will take a break from presenting duties for a unique Alternative MacTaggart. The duo will be joined by Amanda Holden and surprise special guests to check out who in the industry actually has got talent in the festival opening session TV’s Got Talent - Edinburgh Special.
With 2009 marking a decade since the launch of the world’s most notorious reality TV experiment the headline session 10 Years of Big Brother: How Reality Has Changed TV will explore the influence, history and controversy surrounding the Channel 4 juggernaut.
