And me, however we all know that the cat is boss. With two cats, there's disagreement and madness! And Chuna is king of food! Also forgot, a cat can make you feel guilty with one look! James' take will be interesting.

More's to the point, where is Morpeth? Is it in Yorkshire? Bit further north, up from Newcastle and into Northumberland.

This reminds me when James played with cat in France [during the Oz & James' Big Wine Adventure]... he was so gentle.

That will be an interesting read - I'll certainly look out for that. James has professed to loving Fusker "more than anything else in the world" so his take will be a fascinating insight. Personally speaking, my cat rules the roost and I do his bidding. Consequently, I dubbed myself the "Trained Idiot" several years ago. He is very vocal and stands and nags until he gets whatever it is he wants. But in a good way . He is very sensitive to me and my health to an astonishing degree, and very different to most cats I've ever met. He's an amazing little creature and I love him to bits. And yes, I do believe he loves me too. In his way. This may be because he can't open the food by himself, of course. ;D ;D ;D

That should be out by now. Did anyone actually read it? I looked for it in my local Waterstones, but couldn't find it.

I will review if you wish I have very many cat books, so this will be a welcome addition to the collection. Of course the fact that my life is entirely governed by a furry-faced dictator called Merlin may have something to do with it (What Merlin doesn't know is that one of my cat books is all about DIY taxidermy)

I would never do it, it's just a very odd book and I couldn't resist when I found it in the sale bin at Hawkins Bazaar I have quite a few very strange books. Then again, I am quite odd.

It arrived today, and I have to admit I'm very happy. This isn't a book to buy for the Jameseyness of its content, sadly; the celebrity contributions tend to consist of a few lines plus, in most cases, an illustration for the book. James has contributed a very fine photograph of Fusker mooching in a bush (I'll avoid going all soppy about cats at this point although Fusker has got the pinkest nose!). The accompanying text is "Here is my cat Fusker, hiding in the bushes outside my front door and wearing the expression of pure hatred he reserves for my arrival". It is an extremely good photograph, so if the man himself took it, that's another hidden talent he has So lack of major James content aside, what else is there? Well, it's a concise but very good introduction to cat behaviour; in a world that tends to anthropomorphose animals a bit too much, it's reassuring to be reminded that if you are 20 minutes late with their dinner they still have the potential to turn into a polyclawed killing machine ;D It also features some gorgeous cat paintings and some nice photography. Oh, and a drawing by Dermot Murnaghan's eight year old daughter

I confess I have received my copy of "Essential Cattitude" as well... ;D Just as Wy describes...very little of James, but he takes a lovely picture of Fusker...who I just adore the look of, even if he does savage the neighbours... ;D Its a gorgeous little book, but as suspected more suited for lovers of felines rather than lovers of James .... ;D

I've ordered a copy today as a present for my mum, as she's cat mad and is quite interested in finding out more about why some of her collection of felines are a bit, er, bonkers! It's coming to me first though so I can have a sneaky look at the James / Fusker bits before I post it on to mum.

How very considerate of you, Beckstar. Erm, you wouldn't have a scanner by any means, would you? ;D

I do have a scanner. I might just have to scan the relevant bits and hope mum doesn't notice that the book is a bit 'used' ;D
I ordered it today so hopefully it will arrive fairly soon! Mother's Day was 2 weeks ago here and I feel rather guilty being this late with her present (although, in my defence, she and Dad have been on holiday for 2 weeks so she wouldn't have been here to get the present anyway...)

It's a superb picture of Fusker, who does indeed have an evil glint in his eye ;D but this is really a book for catfans, the James content being very much incidental. There are some gorgeous photos of some very photogenic cats in it, but my furry friend knocks spots off the lot of 'em, he's that handsome. No, really. Whenever he goes to the vets even the vets and receptionists comment, and other cat owners gasp in admiration. Here he is: i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj124/slavetoharper/50x354softedgepsp2.jpg

He's a very handsome cat. In fact, as Samuel Johnson may have put it, "he is a very fine cat... a very fine cat indeed"

thanks Wyvern I realise I'm biased but it's not just me, people go out of their way to tell me! He knows it though ;D. He will spend ages looking in a mirror - and he realised it was his own reflection very early on in life. In fact, he will look at my reflection as well and do that thing with the eyes at me via the mirror, which I think is pretty darn clever. He also enjoys posing for photographs and will keep it up for ages. He can also recognise that ornaments of black & white cats are laudable additions to the home and rubs them excitedly. He ignores all other ornaments. He also likes other black & white animals he sees, regardless of type, which I find fascinating.

I think I'm gonna have to track me down a copy of this book. It sounds lovely and also might help with the bad behaviour of certain felines in this household. *sigh* HC, your puss is very handsome.

Thanks Puss! Wow DD, something else we have in common! There's something about the look of what Americans call "tuxedo cats" that's just so special. I love hearing about other people's cats and kittens, I find it fascinating always
