Review in the morning as I got distracted.
I think the rally deserved an hour, this is the first time in the series I've almost fallen back in love with TG, as they had been knocked off their pedestal since the beginning. And it hasn't felt like the penultimate series as it has done previously.
I really hope the final episode is well paced, and everything isn't crammed in that's been left over (there's always next series don't be afraid to under fill instead of over doing it) Leave the audience wanting more!
Right where was I?
Brilliant car tests with the BMW Z4 and the Nissan 350Z ABC?? and I loved the use of the dinosaurs in TG's jungle. It was a different take on the normal car tests and it worked.
I also loved the spilt screen to compare the two cars, it seems to be working brilliantly.
The news was good. Not entirely sure about the Carla Bruni thing but it was quite funny.
The SIRAPC Brian Johnson - quite simply inspired and he was lovely! He was a genuine car fan and it wasn't a PR thing. The guests are better when they come for a good time and not on a PR tour.
Now the Majorca or Bust/Beardy(now incomprehensible Spaniard)/Midget, film. I was disappointed that this wasn't as first anticipated the 2 part film as previously thought. But saying that I did thoroughly enjoy it. I loved the car auction and the bidding and Jeremy certainly looked liked he'd regressed 30 years, the old bus that Richard bought and that awful Citroen James ended up with.
The co-drivers were excellent choices ;D I love the way each was teamed up with a more daft person. I love Brian (Richard's co-driver) as he was very funny, sarky and brilliant! Jeremy's incomprehensible gentleman, Juan, was almost as good as the beardy choice but where did he go? And even gentleman James struggled with uber girliness from Madison the glamour girl. Each had their own problems and each handled them in their own special way.
I did love at the end when Jeremy said he enjoyed being a car fan and no one looking at him when he get technical. Funnily enough I'd like to see more of this informative side. And this is how I imagine most of us feel when we get together and talk and noone thinks we are loons.
I also enjoyed the in car banter - I think James possibly suffered/enjoyed it, the most by being gassed by hairspray and having lipbalm applied and his helmet decorated.
I'd like to know how much of the in car stuff was scripted (I know required but it does feel repetitive after a while) and the outtakes. *DVD* I feel overall the film was TOO SHORT and a bit too fast in places, it felt like some elements were glossed over too quickly as was interaction between the presenters and could have easily been an hour feature. For what there was it was excellent. Please sir I want some moar!
I know there were worries over Madison's presence but she came over really well - ditzy but she's only 19. No doubt there were clenched butt cheeks about her reception but although I don't think she'll solve the global economic problems, she was perfect for the co-driver stint.
Overall the programme felt tight, well paced and for once I felt back in the TG zone. I stick by my first feelings at the beginning and I hope the final episode isn't over done. The camera work in the film was stunning and the editing was very clean.
