Oh dear. ;D Hammond Heaven will be delighted.
The cover of his book is a bit urm unflattering.

They should release a calendar for each of them to see who sells the most and is the programme's official pin up.

I just can't imagine James May submitting to his own calendar of just him and not cars. (or airplanes or trains)

Maybe a calendar of James with his favourite cars, trains, planes etc then. Even better, a naked James with his favourite cars and strategically placed Lego. ;D

I can see him doing a sort of "Where's James?" calendar, where there's a gigantic shot of some car or plane in the foreground and then maybe a hand or a foot sticking out of it.
I hate to say it, but my money is on the Hamster being the first to leave Top Gear for other interests. I think prevailing opinion is that Jezza will be first to go, but I suspect he'll want to keep the show running as long as possible, whereas Richard has got to be entertaining some very serious offers for new shows that could be all his.

Eh, to be honest I don't think money is all that important to him. But he'd probably like to have a more fixed schedule, and travel less, and spend more time with his wife and kids..... and not risk his life all the time.

... and not risk his life all the time. He'll only stop doing that when he's too old, broken or dead. Richard loves the adrenalin, and even after his crash he hasn't had the thrillseeker knocked out of him. It's not going to happen until he's incapable!

Eh, to be honest I don't think money is all that important to him. Well, he's not doing this calender and those commercials for their artistic value, is he? Don't get me wrong. I can't blame him. It must be absolutely wonderful to know at the age of 39 you've not only secured your own financial future, but that of your kids as well. But I can't help noticing it's the kind of things Richard does and not Jezza or James.

Though to be fair to the guy, he hasn't done this calendar. It's clearly marked 'unofficial', which AFAIK means the company has purchased the appropriate rights to a selection of photographs. The artists/performers in these products generally don't make anything from them, because they don't own the rights to the images and under UK law you can't copyright your face.

In that case, UK copyright is way way different from Dutch copyright. Don't you have something we over here call "portrait right"?

No. The Copyrights, Designs and Patents Act of 1988 specifically excludes an individual's image from copyright. A person's image may be protected under the law on trade marks if it is being used as part of a brand and the trade mark has been registered accordingly, but that would only apply to the specific trade mark image. What is illegal is to reproduce an image (such as a photograph or artwork) without the consent of the copyright holder - but in the case of paperazzi shots, which is what tends to be used in unofficial calendars, the copyright holder is generally the person who took the photograph rather than the subject of the photograph. It is to the copyright holder that the publisher would apply for consent to use the image.
Which explains why the truly dreadful one of Richard looking like Alan Partridge is in the collection they've used.

Don't some media hungry celebs (the ones plastered all over the tabloids) have their image copyrighted and then they get a cut of the profits. I'm probably wrong.
I don't Richard and co think about that.

There are ways of licensing an image, but it is to do with branding rather than copyright (for example, anyone can dress as a clown, but if they dress in a specific kind of red and yellow outfit and with their makeup and hair styled a certain way, they could be infringing McDonalds' intellectual property rights). For copyright to apply, the work first has to be created - so strictly, I suppose if anyone was to own copyright on a person, it would be their parents!
