James's airship stunt

The Daily Wail getting their knickers in a knot about the airship going over the runway. It was a stunt, it had to be planned why all the fuss?

I'm so relieved. No beep from the Daily Mail about the first two episodes. I really thought the boys had lost their touch. But they have finally managed to upset them with the third epsiode. ;D

I really thought that James had manged to break though airport security and get away with it. NOT
Somehow if someone had tried this for real i think the RAF would have something to say about it.

I'm actually more comforted knowing it was a stunt. I know there's an element of risk, but I hate the thought of James in any real danger.

Same here, chariset. You don't just stray into active airspace - especially not these days. I'm glad, with something like this, there was a bunch of safeties in place. TG appears reckless, but they're not stupid.

At least the Telegraph asked Andy for his comment:

Top Gear producer Andy Wilman said May had been helped by another pilot to follow flying regulations. He admitted the film had been shot over a period of three days and the airport scene had been pre-planned. "The airport did know we were coming, it was a knockabout part of an entertainment film,” he said. "The landing was a proper crash, it was an accident that was under control.
"This was purely entertainment and not taken seriously, James did fly and a crash did happen.” He added: "It was intended as a fun film, it wasn't a race or review where we have to be impeccable with accuracy and above board. "It was a tongue in cheek segment and I think people will have seen it as that - it was a piece of knockabout fun."

Now as we all know anything in range of an airfield, where it shouldn't be, would have been shot to hell......now that would've been good viewing.....sorry jam ;D

A source at Lindstrand Balloons, which made the airship, added: "The landing was not a crash - it was a controlled accident."

Finally, someone with some sense about this.

If, to ensure its presenters’ safety, Top Gear’s producers want to simulate risk rather than put Hammond and co through genuine, life-threatening peril, that doesn’t seem too outrageous to me.

No matter how irritating Clarkson may be at times, I’d rather he and his colleagues faked disasters than died in them.

I take a little exception to that statement in regards to Jeremy , but otherwise - amen.

There is lots of Top Gear where I think, this isn't for real, it's all been staged but the skill of the producers is that there is always that little part of me that says maybe it is real. The TG3 act it out so well that it's almost believeable even though I know it isn't. That's a plus point in my book not something to splash across the headlines in a derogatory manner by saying "FAKE". Come on journalists - get a life.

I do worry that the PC brigade will put a stop to the TG antics because they believe people will try to copy them. How long til we get the "don't try this at home warning", although knowing Jezza he'll conveniently forget to say it.

Long live thier stunts and their ability to make it all seem so real.

There's another way to read it too, especially how most of the articles mention him looking scared and shouting "Mayday!" The articles have an air of "Hey, we were really worried. We thought he was really in danger. That kind of joke isn't funny!"
