How strange. Why would anyone harbour such a dislike for someone like James? I know he's not everyone's cup of tea but he's so mild mannered yet honest in his own way. Maybe T C of Coventry has just found out his wife fancies him...... Good response by Honest John - who's also a good Journo

I think T.C. takes life much too seriously. James actually talks alot of sense and is very knowledgable about everything he does/works on. I think T.C. is suffering from an extreme bout of jealousy and needs to shut up the stupid t@*@!@

"Those who can do, those who can't criticise". TC sounds like one who can't. Yes I too reckon he's jealous of the fact that James has such a loyal and dedicated harem. Get yourself a life TC and stop bleating.

You know, (and I realise this is going to be a bit contentious) although they've couched it in far too vitriolic terms, the writer does have a grain of a point. A lot of the time, James's columns don't have a lot to do with motoring, and some weeks he doesn't touch on the subject at all. What he does is more like what Jeremy does in one of his two columns in the Sunday Times - but not his motoring one. James is often writing 'comment' columns, although their sometimes tenuous motoring content ensures that they keep their home in the motoring section.
Having said that, Honest John is absolutely right - if you want a motoring journalist, it's a good idea for it to be someone who knows and loves his subject. And the writer is very wrong on one thing - not all of us motorists take driving that seriously.
I mean, really - as a classic car owner, I am a perpetual optimist. If I took motoring that seriously, I'd have had a nervous breakdown by now. I think the point of James May is that he reminds us that there's more to the wider motoring world than upgrading your diff and greasing your trackrod ends.
