Alasondro Alegré from FG found this. Do you dream of having your very own pub in your front room? Would you like your back garden to be turned into a five-a-side football pitch? We are developing a new BBC Two series with James May (from Top Gear) and are looking for houses in the greater London www.gumtree.com/london/26/58105226.html

I agree with you both Jacqui and Nobody, doesn't sounds very "James-ey" to me.... but I will keep an open mind as well.
Maybe James wanted to do something to keep him close to home for a change instead of being away from Woman and Fusker so much?

Have to agree with you all on this one. Do hope James isn't desperate for the money and is having to agree to any old programme.

Wonders if Mr Clarke would have anything to do with this as well, seeing as it's a brewery, wasn't there talk of James doing something else with Oz later in the year?

I agree with you all, doesn't sound like something I would imagine James doing....but it does sound fun. We shall see I suppose!

What worries me about this is the "not telling the missus" bit. I suppose I could be talked into a pub in my front room or a football pitch in my backyard. But there would be many discussions and pros and cons lists made. Then there would be the all important discussion of what I'd be allowed to buy for myself to compensate for all this!
James may be making a quick exit when "the missus" gets her surprise!

It does sound a bit 'gimmicky', if I'm honest. I thought that there was to be another 'Toy Stories' type of thing in the pipeline Maybe I was wrong.

This really doesn't sound a James type programme, it doesn't sound quirky or techie, it has me quite worried. Hope James isn't jumping on the 'anything will do as long as I get a good pay day,' bandwagon. Surely he wouldn't do that?

Well, it's Plum Pictures, so almost certainly legit.

Well, it's Plum Pictures, so almost certainly legit. Oh yes, and they also used Gumtree last time, when they needed people to help with Toy Stories. It's just....not very James-ian, really, by the sound of it.

Perhaps this is going to be his "cheesey" show for the year and he'll do something else that shows his intellectual/science brain side

It also could be that he's doing a show on the type of nutballs who want a pub in their front room and/or hosting a contest where the person who submits the most inventive design gets to build it.

I love James to bits, but I sincerely hope he isn't about to jump the shark. As others have said before, it doesn't really sound like his kind of show at all. There has - in interviews and columns - been mention of a second Toy stories, a new project with Oz and I believe he has even hinted at a project to do with poetry. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

I can see this working in a 'James's Campaign for Real Blokes' kind of way. One thing I'm pretty sure it won't be is 'Changing Rooms', and it's worth bearing in mind that Plum is the company that James has the arrangements with for developing his own ideas. It does sound like he had a few pints and got all enthusiastic at the pub and then managed to talk someone into it, but it certainly won't be a case of someone at the BBC having an idea and James being a convenient 'face' to stick on it. I bet the pitch is a bit along the lines of home makeover shows generally being a bit girly and rubbish, and what kind of makeover would a chap go for?
If that's the way it's going, I can see James being a good fit for the concept, but it is nevertheless quite an odd idea...

It does sound like he had a few pints and got all enthusiastic at the pub and then managed to talk someone into it ;D *snort* ;D I can imagine it now.... a bunch of guys sat around in the pub having had a few too many, not wanting to go home and one saying to the other how great it would be to have the pub in your house instead and some bright spark saying that it would make a good TV programme to change your house into a pub without the "missus" knowing and James being slightly "clattered" thinking it was a FAB idea ;D Bless men when they are p*ssed......

Didn't he say in one of his columns something about putting a bar in the corner of his underground bunker/garage? Perhaps he's expanding on the idea.

It does sound like he had a few pints and got all enthusiastic at the pub and then managed to talk someone into it, I'm sure that thee and I did that at one point......wasn't it something to do with cookery? I remember one of us saying that we should go straight to the BBC with our *ahem* wonderful idea, but I don't remember what the idea was any more ;D Might have had something to do with the testicles in sauce....... ;D

Not our cooking ;D we were in an Italian restaurant, and one of the group had ordered gnocci. We may have been a tad clattered at that point (well, we'd been in a pub for about four hours, and then went for food) and one of us suggested that the gnocci looked like testicles in sauce. I honestly don't remember if the idea started from there, or if the idea arrived before the testicles did Maybe Wy will remember......

I remember the night out, and I remember the testicles in sauce, and I remember the wanting to hammer down the BBC's commissioning editor's door... but I can't for the life of me remember why... it was a great night though!

I saw a show were a family had a saloon added on to their home. cowboy saddles, hats, boots, tools diplayed on the walls. turned out nice. I agree this may be a dry run for his own special watering hole.
