I would much sooner watch James doing a half good atempt at polishing boots than watching Nigella being a "slut"with pasta and inner thigh wobble for what ever she's made that week.

Thank you so much!! I hope it won't be too much trouble for you to upload the next two episodes as well, I would appreciate it from the bottom of my heart as I don't have access to the BBC iPlayer. No problem at all. I record and upload everything TG related that I can and it's great to be able to share it ;D

Only just watched the episode. Like many of you, initially it didn't do it for me but as it progressed it kinda grew on me. I think if you take it as a bit of tongue in check fun it works. In a world of recession, terrorism and stress it makes a refreshing change to have some fun and make wierd and wacky things. Like James I wish I had never grown up. Therefore on that level it's great and yes, you bet, I'll be watching the next episode.

The episode has been watched in Hops' world and... Well, mr Hops liked parts of it and I liked other parts. ;D Overall, it was fun to watch but, as others have pointed out, rather fragmented. It feels like he set out to make 6 episodes, but only received permission for 3 in the end. First, the things that I didn't like... I was pretty annoyed by the man lab improvement thing, because all the viewers could see was the end product, not the thinking out of the process and all the times it went wrong. The train, for example, was hilarious, but show us how it's done.. Well, that's what we thought anyway. Also, James was all talk about "fixing things" but it turns out that he has his "man" for the real work. On the other hand.. James singing lots of er... something I will mention in the NC lots of James having fun. And I also loved the bits that other shows would undoubtedly edit out, like the broken glass or the banana falling. The bomb detonation was the segment that worked best for me, it was interesting, fun to watch and James was wearing that guh inducing pair of jeans which we got a nice view of from the ba... *gets dragged to NC*

Something positive from the Mail, for once (boy, James has certainly got media coverage with all of this, hasn't he?)
Top marks for Top Gear
How right James May is when he says ‘women are getting bored with blokes being a bit useless’. The Top Gear presenter is attempting to reverse this desperate state of affairs with a new show, Man Lab, which aims to teach modern men vital lost skills such as putting up a shelf. May fears that unless men sharpen up their act they will be reduced to nothing more than sperm providers. No doubt an entire generation of men will emerge at the end of the series knowing how to countersink a screw.
But the nation’s women will not bestow upon May their grateful thanks until he can also teach them the most valuable skill of all — doing the job as soon as they’ve learnt it, so we never again have to hear that heart-sinking phrase: 'I’ll do it next weekend'.

So we have disected the content how about the title music composed by some bloke called Dr James May B.Mus ;D It reminded me of a childrens program I used watch back in the *ahem* 70's but i can't think for the life of me what it is I do find myself humming it at times ;D

I'm tempted to think that he's deliberately written something that nags in your brain, an earworm. As a musician I'm sure he's capable of writing a much more complex theme but has written a catchy generic-type of theme instead.

I've just watched the whole programme and I liked it. I didn't mind at all that the longer features were chopped up and that the shirt kept changing.
Does it matter that the sink wasn't plumbed in? Maybe that'll happen next week. The train set was completely poinless but it was fun. One place I worked at (in the pre-computer age) had a short length of track & Thomas the Tank Engine ferried telephone orders from one desk to another.
One thing I loved was that the plan of the Man Lab is made to look like a Cluedo board.
The f*sh finger sandwich was a bit wasted on me as I don't like f*sh, bread or salad cream and I'm not too keen on sandwich spread either. But I appreciate the sentiment. If only it had been sausage inna bun with BBQ sauce...
Was that a candlestick on the handlebars of the bike?

I knew that floor plan reminded me of something! ;D Thanks, MF. The Man Lab web page has been jazzed up a bit, with a new header and background colour. I think it looks rather good. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00vsw36

I'm beginning to think that James is aiming for world domination. Man Lab, the programme, has been heavily criticised (mainly by people who just don't get the humour) but his basic concept - the uselessness of the Modern Man - has been given masses of publicity all over the media, the vast majority of which totally agrees with him.
The latest is Liz Jones in the Mail whose article is actually about the abuse she received from passing young men when her car broke down, but even this gets a James reference, under the headline 'Is there a man left under 40 who isn't a rude, ignorant pig?'
"....if my experience yesterday morning is anything to go by, it’s a generational phenomenon. As Top Gear’s James May said this week, young men have lost their masculinity, in that they can no longer fix things. And this loss of manners is far worse."
It does look though as if Man Lab will get a thrashing on Sunday's "Points of View" on BBC2 as the BBC messageboard for Man Lab (most of which is critical and some very rude) has had 3 messages from BBC admins saying that the thread is being monitored for use of comments on PoV.

I agree the vast majority of people agree with Mr May......the trouble is the programme was, sadly up and down, it needs a fiddle with, the idea is fantastically brilliant, his humour to me wasn't in question either (one thing I do like very much about him ) just some bad stuff, can't think of the word/too much content in too few episodes, but I will continue to watch. Dit where is the said message board, I gave up after getting lost and reading other stuff ;D

The show is a good idea, but it needs to slow down especially if he wants to help people with little or no DIY skills. He goes from plugs to bombs far to quickly and without going in to enough detail.
